We stayed 2 nights at Edgewood in September '22 after North Bend plantation had to cancel our reservations last minute due to a family emergency.Edgewood was a plantation that is clearly past it's prime, as are the owners. The host, Mr Julian, forgot we were coming so was not there to welcome us and we had to come back a couple hours later, the rooms are suffocatingly stuffed with antiques, and though things are mostly clean, there is just a very old and unused air to it.Miss Dot has severe memory issues, and though we enjoyed our time visiting with Mr Julian and hearing about the remodeling of the house in the 70-80's, the stay was far from worth the $400+ cost.We were completely unaware of the paranormal aspect of the house, and unwittingly chose to stay in the Jeb Stuart room and my husband and I both experienced things we would rather not have experienced. If you're into paranormal stuff, go for it, but not our thing.Over all, the rooms were ok, but not the type that feel "homey." Every room has it's own bathroom (however small), which is lovely, but they are tiny and stuffed and there is no where to put ones luggage/toiletries/clothing.

Edgewood Plantation is a lovely 1849 manor house. Tours are given by Dot, one of the owners, and are filled with interesting facts and anecdotes. Inside the house are many beautiful pieces of furniture, artifacts and decorations. My favorite was the dining room with a variety of beautiful floral China. This is a B & B also! Each bedroom is very individual with a unique, antique bed and period items. Beside the house is Harrison's Mill from 1825. We enjoyed our tour very much!

What a wonderful Bed and Breakfast!!This beautiful old building is a unique and wonderful experience. Dot and Jules, the proprietors, were lovely; they welcomed up and provided a wonderful tour of the entire estate. The interior decor is very unique..you really need to stay there to appreciate it. Knowing the historical characters who walked it's floors also adds to the special feeling of being a part of history. The breakfast was wonderful, served in their exquisitely decorated parlor room...The bed and pillows were also very comfortable.Stay here...you will not regret such a memorable night!

We did NOT stay at plantation because they were already booked for the dates we needed. But we totally enjoyed our tour of the home. Dot & her husband have done an excellent job of furnishing the home with so many wonderful antiques.I would recommend you visit if you are in the area...5 stars from me!

We love the family that runs the place! My husband and I did a murder mystery here. It was our first time at a B&B AND our first murder mystery dinner. They made the experience so much fun, were incredibly welcoming, and the ghost tour was definitely one we won't forget.

We stayed for an evening and loved it. We let them know we wanted to bring our dog when we booked, and they accommodated us. The owners, Dot and julian, were fantastic and pleasant and friendly. Lots of history to see at this plantation. 10 out of 10 will be going

This is place is a must visit type of location. Amazing! Had the best experience. Dot and Candy were extremely welcoming and told us all about the house and its history. They have a beautiful garden and pool. Very accommodating for my large family. 6 of us in total stayed and had a great time. My children didn't want to leave. My son who is 7 tried to leave a tip out of money he has been saving for months. He had the best experience. The breakfast was perfect and very fitting of the atmosphere. What can I say but WOW! We will try to go again since it was such a memory.

Right off the bat I have to say, out of any place of lodging I have been (And I travel a ton for work), this has hands down the absolute best hospitality I have ever had. Dot is simply a beautiful soul who I was blessed with meeting. She went way above and beyond making sure you felt more than 100% comfortable. Her breakfast was very good, coffee and even a courtesy beer upon arrival. She had so much information of the surrounding area, her husband gave us a bunch of history of the area and a tour of the yards. Our first night there the group we were with, we were the only ones so she said we were allowed to go into any room and look around and observe. She gave us a tour of the house and history of each room. Everytime we encountered her through out out stay she always had something sweet and pleasant to say to keep your feeling of comfort at peak. I highly encourage, stay here if you are ever in Charles City, if not for the history but to have confidence in knowing angels such as Dot still exist and restore your faith in people.

With only one pet friendly room it’s a roll of the dice if you’re bringing the dog.I was excited for this stop on our way to the beach from New York after reading the great reviews and booked the room that allows dogs. We had to ask for email confirmations and received them and texted on the way down to say we hit traffic and will be a little late. Got a text back that it’s not a problem. Dot greeted us and said she didn’t have a room for us as they only have one dog room, and someone was already in it. We said we had email confirmations and her reply was, “I don’t do email, so I don’t know who you were talking to.” Turned out it was Candi who was away on vacation.Dot did offer us the Honeymoon Suite for the higher price, or we could wait for the couple staying in our room to come back from dinner and she would boot them out. The whole time it felt as though Dot seemed put off that we even showed up, wasn’t very helpful in finding another place to stay, and I got the feeling she only wanted us to leave.Candlewood Suites down the road takes pets if you give Edgewood a try and want a backup. I’m not being sarcastic… If I were checking reviews, I certainly wouldn’t allow one or two bad reviews sway me and nor should you. The most upsetting part was not knowing where we were going to spend the night and searching for a place that takes dogs was stressful after an eight-hour drive. I’m sure there were just several things that lined up perfectly for this to happen however it was not pleasant.

Candi grated us and made us feel very comfortable. The house is full of antiques they have a nice pool out back. It is right off the route 5 bike trail very centrally located. Breakfast was great. We enjoyed our stay.

Edgewood is a step back in time. Located right next to the Jamestowne Bike Trail, it was a great stop on our bike trip. Dot (the proprietor) was very welcoming, southern and knowledgeable about the history of the plantation and the area. The rooms were great and the breakfast was fantastic. Would highly recommend!

This is one of the most magical and beautiful places in the world, I guess. The love of detail in every little piece that is part of the Edgewood plantation is just phenomenal. Let alone all the dainty dolls, the mysterious spirits of the house (hello Lizzie) and of course, Candy, the good fairy of the house who makes the most superb breakfast, has some delightfully spooky ghost stories to tell and is just super lovely and charming through and through.
