This is a very white gym that is not trauma informed nor are they adaptable. The front desk staff are aloof, and lack good customer service. The white teachers appear as if they have no idea what to do with a fat body or brown skin. The majority of yoga teachers are not body, or trauma informed and will call you out and unintentionally shame you in the middle of the class. They are not welcoming unless you are one of their regulars! I have found 2 yoga instructor’s that are fantastic and I stick to only those yoga classes. The P.R.E.P program is a joke. I felt rushed there was a weigh in at the start, they forgot to do a body fat record so at the end of the program it appeared that I gained weight when my clothes were actually fitting better and some had room so clearly I had lost body fat. It was not an encouraging experience. I did request a water routine and they did create one for me, so that was nice. But my P.R.E.P membership ended and nobody closed me, said goodbye, asked if I was satisfied or needed anything, they were just more concerned that I join the gym. I have stayed thus far because I enjoy the yoga classes that make ke feel welcomed and capable, the pools and saunas, it’s more of a therapeutic, self care visit to this gym. I would pay the same amount for a therapist is how I’ve reasoned. We shall see how much longer I continue

The best of C'ville. Hands down.

Clean facilities, however seems to be far too much invested in a fitness center to have relatively inadequate equipment. They are now changing visitor policies and will not allow Charlottesville locals to purchase a day pass, which is ludicrous. Cannot recommend for serious fitness enthusiasts visiting the area.

This is a standard health club. You're gonna pay 100ish dollars a month for subpar gym equipment, a pool, and a basketball court. If you enjoy that, then this place is definitely for you. As a former trainer, I believe there are some excellent trainers here, but if you expect to be able to do personal training here long-term then don't hold your breath. ACAC personal training is not set up properly to have trainers obtain full schedules of clients. This is partially because of the exponential pay scale growth they have for trainers (meaning you don't really make any money until you have a minimum amount of client hours for 3 consecutive months) and also because they hire as many trainers as possible instead of focusing on the ones they have. Only 4 of the trainers here have a full schedule and make a full time living off of this job and they are all in their 50's and have several certifications and usually multiple college degrees, including graduate degrees. The rest of the trainers typically have another job on the side for more consistent pay. The pay scale here is absurd. Depending on the package clients sign onto, the rates per hour when I was working there were upwards of 88 dollars per hour for a 4 pack minimum, and individual training sessions were 99 dollars. And the saddest part is that they just keep upping the rates. But from a former employee perspective, the worst part about the job was the general manager Mike Battle parading around the building telling people how to do their jobs. He's just a figurehead. None of the trainers really have much to do with the PT manager or the general manager. They don't really contribute much to the growth of your clientele. They just tell you to walk the floor and go talk to people mid workout and try to convince them to let you train them. Having to deal with Mike's horrible advice on how to grow clientele, and just overall controlling and unnecessary demands, as well as all of the other reasons I just mentioned, was just enough for me to recommend no one apply to work here if they want to become a successful trainer. Shout out to all the ladies that make bank here though, and to Joe and Daniel for being really good, hard working, high quality people. I'll always appreciate how you guys helped me grow from my brief time here. Hope this helps anyone who reads it :)

The Albemarle Square location has gone severely downhill in the last year or so since the new manager took over. We have had a family membership here for 7 years and have loved it until recently. New employees are rude and bossy, almost as if they are doing you a favor. What used to be a hospitality centered facility is like a Super 8 now. Every other month they run a 30 day for $30 special so there's never open equipment even though we pay $200 per month. They will show you a basketball court on the tour but you'll never be able to use it b/c they prioritize pickle ball (I guess that's where the money is). New manager's most recent genius idea: no basketball on friday nights. Instead, they kick the players off the court and pull out the pickleball nets starting at 6pm. They just sit there unused. What a shame. We will be canceling as soon as my youngest is out of the house in 9 months. The owner must be hard up for cash after covid.

Clean, well equipped, nice staff. I only wish it would stay open longer in the evenings, and that some group activities also could start later.

The amenities that are provided there are exceptional. However, the service that is provided to you at the kidzone, where you pay them to care for your child, is completely lacking. I have taken my child there twice and on both occasions I have received him back with piss filled diapers. I let it go the first time but I couldn't for this recent one. When I picked him up the last time, he ran up to me weirdly and I was confused. I immediately picked him up and checked his diaper. It was literally HANGING down his LEG! I asked the front desk clerk if they changed diapers here and she said "yes, is he wet?" I replied "It's hanging down his LEG". SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO GO "POOOFFF, OH" with a chuckle and smile. After that she turned away as if to let someone else know. I took my child and told her not to worry, and that I'll handle it. After I changed him, I informed the district manager who has still not yet gotten back in touch with me on this incident. I also found out later when I got to my car that they hadn't even given him his snacks and he was there for more than 2 hours! I went back in to tell that to the manager as well.....As you can tell, I will not be going back and I felt the need to let other parents know as well since I know they will just sweep this under the rug.

A wonderful facility! Terrific indoor swimming pools, great classes and very supportive staff and trainers. A little pricey on the membership but well worth the value especially if you like to swim year round!
