Great place to visit when you love artworks and happen to be in downtown Charlottesville. Parking a bit tough on busy day, outside of the Center there was pretty nice courtyard. It is by walking distance to the downtown mall, couple studios for different residents artists. Worth a visit :).

The McGuffey building was a former grade school and now houses three floors of artist studios and a gift shop featuring their art. It's a pleasant escape from the world outside for a few hours. The halls exhibit artists' works and change monthly. You can also visit the artists in their studios while you're there.

I adore the artists' open studios. The work on display is also always different. And they've been hosting music classes for kids, which parents rave about.
McGuffey Art Center, located one block from the Downtown Mall in a historical school building, is one of the oldest artist-run cooperative art centers in the country. The art center currently houses 48 renting artists with open studios and 6 incubator residency artists. The art center is open to the public to view monthly exhibitions which showcase works by artists in our association and within our greater Charlottesville community. McGuffey also hosts group tours, workshops, classes, summer art camps, and community events. To find out more about our artist community, check out our website.
