After decades at Wells Fargo, BBT and Bank of America - with increasingly declining service and consistently rising fees, we migrated both our business and personal accounts to Virginia National Bank (Charlottesville area branches). We have had a very positive experience banking there for the last year or so and appreciate the friendly, personal service; it seems VNB is better at retaining staff than the other large banks.

I have always found the VNB staff to be helpful and friendly.

I have been with VNB personally well over a decade and with my small business, over 6 years. I will be closing my business and personal accounts with them in the very near future. I called to speak to them about applying for the Paycheck Protection Program as a small business. I was given inaccurate information and told that they would not take my application as I currently did not "owe them any money". While I can imagine that most banks were overwhelmed at the onslaught of applications they received, it is still their responsibility to give accurate information to their clientele. Had I not educated myself on the application process prior to reaching out to them, I would have been convinced I didn't qualify for this loan, when I undoubtedly do. Very disappointed.

I am a financial coach and recommend clients never use this bank, from my personal and business experience as well as other businesses. This is not the bank you want to bank with, and there are plenty of other options. Reasoning: Unexpected fees, poor service resulting in mistakes on accounts, dysfunctional online banking (you cannot access monthly statements online with economy checking) and finally, fee policies that functionally act as a "tax on the poor" (ie anyone with under 1k in their checking.... even though most banks offer free checking, as they should). Banks use your money to make additional money for their business, VNB then greedily charges you excessive fees on top of that for their poor service. Skip VNB, (and while you're at it, skip Wells Fargo and Bank of America).

This bank is not worth the time or money. Charging me for something I did not get in the mail. Then I told the lady I would like to close the account. She said good there is only X amount of dollars in the account. I told her that this was a very rude comment. So DO NOT BANK WITH ANY VIRGINIA NATIONAL BANK. So I have found UVA Credit Union to be a better bank and more caring with my money.
