I've shopped at Culpeper Martin's for 11 years. It has always been a pleasure to shop there. However, recently they did a lighting and color change. The new lighting is cold white, harsh, not warm and inviting as before. The colors (black and gray) are anything but cheery. Together, the new color scheme and the new lighting are dark, depressing, dim, and dull, especially in the produce section. I hope they're saving money with this gloomy remodel, because it is certainly not attractive. Prices spiraling, sizes shrinking, fewer and fewer sales and coupons, bare spaces on shelves all reminding us of the disastrous covid shutdown are sad enough without making the store look like a cave. I know the supply chain is a widespread problem and not the fault of any business, but why are there THIRTEEN different kinds (brands and varieties within brands) of tin foil on three shelves? (No supply chain problems there!) BUT there is no wax paper for the second week in a row - maybe longer because I only look when I need to resupply. It is a fine old product, still useful, and, by the way, biodegradable. Speaking of biodegradable, WHY did the entire grocery industry abandon paper bags, eminently biodegradable, and go to PLASTIC, made from the dreaded fossil fuels and bio-NONdegradable? They're all floating around in a giant gyre in the middle of several oceans. Paper bags gave shape to their contents, and sat up instead of falling over and spilling things all over the trunk. But the environmentalists convinced executives that paper bags were destroying fine old-growth forests. As if! Trees for paper bags are a crop like corn that just takes a few years instead of a few weeks to harvest. Nancy R.

After having such a terrible time finding fresh produce and wider selection at Weis, we opted to start going with Martin's last year since it's the only other alternative than Walmart. For the first few months, it was a great switch. But, since the turn of the year, we've come to greatly regret it.Produce doesn't last very long and we've had issues waiting on our orders at the self-service kiosk at the deli. But, that was just nitpicks at first. Nothing to gripe about. What really starting becoming a real problem was the customer service. I can confidently say now that this Martin's greatly lacks customer service. It's a far cry from the service we've had at the Giant stores in northern Virginia. A great example of this would be one evening when my family and I came here to start our grocery run and we pulled one of the green basket carts for our food and one red one for our kids to ride in. We prefer the green ones because of the space for our food. Well, as we were loading the kids on the red one, one of the attendants comes by and takes the green one right away from us. When we pointed out that we were using that one, the lady rudely said that the green ones were for Martin's Direct use only, even though there were other green carts were readily available. She decided to intentionally take ours. I don't even bother with the gas station either, as one of the attendants was really rude and snippy with us when paying for gas. I'm to the point I will be looking outside of the county now for my groceries. It's not worth the hassle here with such limited selections in Culpeper and with a team who throws courtesy out of the window. It's a shame because we were all under the impression that Martin's is the premium place in the county for grocery shopping, but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I ordered the Boars Head Wrap Sandwich platter a several years ago for my Daughter's Bridal Party getting ready. Extremely loved it. I decided to order same platter for my Birthday Picnic this Saturday, ordered 2 ham, 2 club, 2 turkey and 1 roast beef, 1 week ahead. 1. Order was not ready at time I designated; 2. Received 3/4 of platter Roast Beef; 3. 1/4 of platter was ham and club. No turkey! Understand how COVID has effected staffing. Went to Customer Service, with pictures, to complain about the order not being right and more importantly what I received. Customer Service simply nodded! No apologies! Picture of what website shows, and received a couple of years ago (1st picture), 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures is what I received!

Culpepper is a small, mostly rural city, that I am visiting.Martin's Food z market is well known as a store that provides quality food and produce. We order from Martin's and use the pick-up service to retrieve our food. With Covid-19' on an up-tick, this is an important feature.During the last two orders, one made yesterday and the other, 3 days ago, the produce has been less than the quality I expected. We ordered aroma tomatoes and avocado 3 days ago and lemons yesterday. All items were covered in white mold, the very next day. This is unusual and quite concerning. I am paying for a service and I have an expectation of the quality of the organic items I consume. It is my opinion that the produce selected by the Martin's staff, is one step away from having to be disposed or that they are not cleaning the bins correctly and mold is spreading throughout the produce.Either way, this concern needs immediate correction. The store has a reputation that need not be tainted by trying to pass off less than fresh food items to its customers. The people at Martins remain very courteous. I've requested a callback regarding this issue. It took repeated calls to address my concerns. They paid for my fruit and I nonetheless did without and paid for gas to pick up my orders.

I began using Martin's pick-up service today as Covid re-surges, and I could see that they had a lot of people picking up their orders as I was. I received excellent service. An employee named Angel delivered the food to my car with a smile and was so very pleasant. Kudos to Martin's for this.

I went to Matins in Culpeper VA today 4-17-2021. They had shrimp on sale $5. a pound. I ask for 4 lbs. Instead of getting them from the display case, he opens up a box and pulls 2 bags out and dumps them into a pan to steam for me. Found that strange since he had been getting shrimp from the display case for the people in front of me. When they were ready he put them in a bag that already had the price tag on it. He charged me $20. for 4 lbs. the only problem was the tag said net weight 2 lbs. $20. So I went back to the meat and seafood dept. and ask why it only said 2 lbs. and they still charged me $20. he said that the shrimp loses some when you steam them. I ask him to weigh my bag it weighed 3.40 which is over a half lb. less, so my price should be the weight it is when completed. They owe me a half lb. of shrimp or they owe me $2.50 or more. I want this fixed. If you want shrimp from Martin's make them weigh it in front of you otherwise you are going to get ripped off.

Constant low inventory, fowl rotten produce, oh and my personal favorite zero enforcement of wearing masks, I mean zero. State law requires all businesses to enforce mandatory mask wearing and this location does not. We have been in there on more than one occasion and have found multiple people not wearing masks and employees not wearing them properly. We will be taking our business somewhere else from now on. Note to management, there is still a pandemic going on and cases and deaths are increasing, your are putting your customers and employees at risk.

Great location to take advantage of the bonus points earned at Martins Grocery. Current price was good at $1.94 plus I got to use the $.20 discount to bring it down to $1.74. This place is especially nice at this time of the year. 5 out of seven stars for a perfect score.

My 72 year old father went to your location this evening and was SHOCKED to find that none of the employees were wearing ANY protective gear. They were also not following the recommended 6 ft of social distancing. When he raised his concern, not only would the manager not see him, the employee he spoke to explained that the staff was mandated to not wear protective gear so as to not cause 'undue alarm' with its customers. This is not only inhumane to Martin's and its staff, it puts the rest of our community at risk. This is absolutely unacceptable and must be corrected immediately.

Highly recommended! The best place to get groceries, prescriptions, cakes and gas in Culpeper hands down!
