I’ve been to a bunch of climbing gyms, and this one just feels different. The routes are always fun and well thought out — not just random holds thrown on a wall. There’s always something new to try, whether you’re bouldering or on the ropes.
The Kilter Board and training area are awesome for working on strength and technique. Not every gym has that kind of setup.
The best part is the vibe. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the community is welcoming. Whether you’re brand-new or have been climbing for years, you’ll feel right at home.
If you’re looking for a place to climb, train, and meet great people, State Climb is the spot.

I went to state climb a few hours ago and my experience went from mid to absolute perfection, because of one worker named David. David made the whole experience so much better, he was friendly, respectful, professional and reliable, I highly recommend going to this establishment because of David's work ethic. He gave me a barrel game because I despise rock climbing, he made it very fun.

I had a fantastic experience, and it was all thanks to David. From start to finish, he went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. He was incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive to every detail. It’s rare to come across someone who genuinely cares about providing great service, but David absolutely did. He made the whole process easy and enjoyable, and I really appreciate the effort he put in. Highly recommend! I love David!!!!!

I really liked this place. Went with kids all 6 and under and was family friendly. Not a huge area, but had a nice bouldering area with soft base. 6 and 4 year old we having the time of their lives there. The employees were very nice and other patrons were all very nice and kind too. Other than the bouldering area, there were 2 auto belays and then a partner belay area we didn't use. I will for sure be visiting again and would highly recommend this as a place for kids and adults alike. Love it!

My partner and I have come out to State Climb a few times now and it’s been a really great experience each time. Adam has been great to talk to and got us sorted out when we first showed up and Mia was a really informative and helpful instructor when I took my belay training. They take their safety seriously but still have a really laid back and community driven space. Having grown up in Culpeper, this is a really great addition to the community.

We were visiting from out of town with our 6 year old and 9 year old. Leah was super helpful with getting us oriented to the climbing facility. PERFECT for kids.

I love State Climb!! What sets State Climb apart is its welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. When walking in i was greeted by Leah. She had such a fun kind welcoming! Climbers can enjoy a laid-back vibe, where community and camaraderie take center stage. The friendly locals and experienced guides are always happy to share tips, fostering a supportive environment. After climbing, you can explore the nearby charming town of Culpeper, known for its great restaurants, shops, and cozy vibes.
All in all, State Climb in Culpeper offers the perfect mix of challenging climbs , a great community and atmosphere, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in rock climbing / bouldering.10/10

State Climb is a true “hidden” gem of Culpeper. In a town with limited activity options, this gym is the perfect place for all ages to come and enjoy movement in a unique and exciting way. With new climbing routes added weekly and an expanding selection of equipment, you certainly won’t get bored. The owners and employees are also very well-trained and passionate about climbing, so you’ll be in great hands during your visit. Definitely worth stopping in!
