Sky Meadows State Park is a beautiful and peaceful getaway on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This 1,860-acre park is rich in history, capturing colonial through post-Civil War life with a historic farm and unique pastoral landscape of scenic views, woodlands, and rolling pastures. It offers recreational offerings that engage visitors with nature and history programs year-round. The park provides plenty of trails, with 22 miles of hiking trails, 10.5 miles of bridle trails, 9 miles of bike trails, and Appalachian Trail access. Trails are extremely scenic, peaceful, dog friendly, and really well marked, offering varied topology with splendid lush green meadows and good hills. Favorite activities include hiking, picnicking, fishing, and primitive hike-in camping for families and groups. It is a convenient and quick trip from the DC metro area. By day, it is an idyllic setting for a picnic and family-friendly activities. By night, the park transforms into a stargazer's paradise with a spectacular blanket of stars. The entire experience is a wow; pictures do not do it justice. Visitors are encouraged to visit the park and enjoy nature at its best.
Sky Meadows is a beautiful park. The scenery is excellent. The facilities and parking are very good. We walked easy trails and definitely got a good work out for us. We took our dogs. It was a lovely day!

The children's discovery area is a great way to end a hike with the kids.
