This shop is fantastic! The staff was super helpful and nice. Also, I attended one of their Mountain Trout School sessions and cannot recommend it enough. The lesson was great, and the teachers helped me catch my first brook trout. I can't wait to go back to this shop.

Ordered a new reel and some line and backing off the website a couple nights ago. By lunch the next day I had an email and a phone call from Rhonda at
the shop asking if I wanted them to go ahead and spool the reel for me before they shipped the order. Little things like that are not necessary, but very much appreciated! I’m not far away, so when they shipped that afternoon it made it to me the next day. As a western transplant doing a short stint in NOVA, really appreciate a local shop going the extra mile, without even being asked. Hoping to work enough play into my next backpacking/fishing trip in SNP to swing by the shop. Thank you guys!

Have been trying to get to Murray’s many times on our trips up to Winchester but always missed on timing. It’s worth adjusting your schedule since they have an amazing fly selection and tying materials. Local knowledge and looks to have planned education opportunities.
Will be returning.

Super friendly and knowledgeable. Stopped by before a fishing trip on the north river for some smallmouth bass flies. Landed a handful on their recommended patterns - didn’t disappoint.

The staff was super helpful on getting my friend and I set up for a successful trip. We knew nothing about trout fishing beforehand. After speaking to the crew we left the fly shop with enough knowledge and equipment to make it happen. Thanks to Mr. Murray himself, we were both able to catch well over 50 trout each throughout the 5day trip we spent here. As a fishing guide myself I see the professionalism and knowledge that was displayed and am super appreciative to have met him.

Mr. Murray was very nice and incredibly helpful. He told us exactly what to use for leaders, tippet, and flies and he even told us where to go. He is a very knowledgeable man and is willing to teach you if you ask. Highly recommend.

This shop has a LOT! If you love fishing, fishing gear, tackle, or learning how to fly fish, this is the place to go! This was our first visit and I know we'll be back.

Learned a lot from the fly fishing school and the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Ended up purchasing my own setup and their advice was great. Will come back again, they’ve got a customer for life.

Murray's shop is the best fly shop in the area. Ample and I mean an ample selection of flies, tying materials, and more. The employees have a wealth of information and can help you out in a multitude of ways. This place is what a fly shop should be. Not a dimly lit corner in Cabela's or Bass pro shops. Go here before any other stores. Also, the prices are very fair and the quality of tying materials is superior to the chain stores.

Been to Murray's several times and he and his staff are as helpful as can be...excellent advice on flies etc. But the real reason I'm doing a review is the class I took yesterday on mountain steam fishing for Brookies. I learned more in 2 hours of presentation in the shop and 4 hours in Little Stoney Creek than i learned in a year of research/YouTube/books. Jeff led the class and did an OUTSTANDING job, exhibiting unlimited patience with our group and a real desire to ensure we understood the material and techniques involved. As a budding fly fisherman, the $200 course cost was nothing compared to what i took away in increased knowledge. I HIGHLY recommend it for any fly fisherman, even if mountain Brookie fishing isn't what you're interested in, the skill/knowledge are transferable to any river/stream fly fishing.

I have fished all over Appalachia for many years. Whenever I find myself in the shenendoah valley I always try to stop by myself particularly for all the bass flies for the nearby shenendoah river. 10/10 would recommend.
