I had the worst customer service experience at Joann fabrics in Fairfax. The African American lady at the fabric measurement counter was extremely rude. I couldn't catch her name because she wore her name tag in a manner that it was not visible. No one feels like working in this store.

This store is so big and carried everything I needed. The two salespeople were exceptionally kind and helpful, I didn't catch the name of the one who cut my fabric. But I needed help with coordinating fabric and she had a great eye for color. The selection she helped me make was perfect. Lisa was running the cash register and was likewise very helpful and patient when we ran into a few snags.

Store manager made me go measure an item that I was trying to return. After waiting ten minutes to measure it, the store manager wouldn't let me return the item even though I had a receipt and claims she couldn't look up the order # on my receipt. This store's always understaffed and I'm not pleased with the service I received today. Will be escalating this complaint.

I have lived in this area for about six years now. This store has been a mess since day one. Very poor store maintenance, supply is always a question. The service is very, very basic at best.

Once again I've come to get fabric from Joanne's and find that they aren't using their ticket system to get the fabric cut. I took number and then waited forever only to discover that the fabric person was taking customers randomly. Only the most aggressive gets their fabric cut. Good luck folks!

I arrived at the store at 4:30pm to pick up an online order. The doors were locked and no one was answering the phone. The lights were on and according to the sign the store was slated to remain open until 6pm. After reading the reviews this seems to be a trend. Beware before you go!

Cashier 866959Was too busy being discriminated by an African American women to catch her name. I’m Muslim, Pakistani, I wear a head scarf and when I tell you the racism I encounter today and the way I saw this women speak to a white women blows my mind. I asked for a fabric to be cut, half way through found a few other colors I preferred and when I went up to her and told her I changed my mind she said I can’t do that and have to purchase and can’t put back, keep in mind I didn’t even pay for this and she was accusing me of taking it home and washing and cutting it up. I never left the store…..then proceeded to take the second fabric and REFUSED to sell it to me saying I can’t buy it since I don’t want the other one. Are you kidding me? Proceed to be rude, my husband doesn’t speak well English and took full advantage of that. When we returned with other items and asked for a bag she said there’s a charge, fine whatever. When the white women behind us came up she was complementing her hair and hair band and when the women paid, was about to leave and turned around and said “can I actually have a bag” the cashier said “no problem” and gave it to her free of charge. So you won’t charge her and will complement her hair but will charge me and refuse to sell me a fabric I needed to buy that I had already gotten a ticket/receipt for. The discrimination I felt was beyond me. You guys hire people like this and think it’s okay? How are you behaving like this as a person of color yourself? Being black doesn’t mean you can’t be racist sweetheart. I was treated poorly because of what was on my head, how my husband spoke, and where I came from and what religion I practiced. And I saw how I would have been treated if I was white instead. ??

Staff was rude and unhelpful, not even willing to listen in order to begin helping a customer resolve the tiniest of problems. Stay away.

It was going to be a "new year new me". I made it 16 hours into the new year before that nice new me that doesnt write reviews went out the window. We walked in 30 minutes before closing, and an employee ran in front of us to say that they were closed. A lot can happen in 30 minutes, including my shopping trip. When we explained that it was a quick trip, this employee muttered "it better be". This employee was rude. Going up to the fabric cutting counter, the women rudly stated that 10 minutes before, the counter closed and they made an announcement. 1. We were not in the store 10 minutes before for the announcement, and 2. She stated this to my Deaf mother who wouldn't have heard that announcement even if she HAD been present. This employee was rude. Once we had our stuff, we went to the counter, where we had an interaction with someone who rolled their eyes and said nothing while scanning. My mother thanked him and wished him a happy new year while he stayed silent. By the third time of wishing him a happy new year, he mutter a reply back. This employee was rude. While I understand that holidays are stressful and that right before closing employees want to go home, they can still be decent. You don't need to be peppy and happy, but I'd appreciate it if employees were nice.

Wasn’t even a foot into the store and another customer barked at my dog, leading my dog to bark in confusion. I pulled my dog away and the Joann cashier (her name was Tash) screamed at my teenager to get out of the store saying that behavior was unacceptable and they would not let an aggressive dog into the store. My dog is 15lb and has never bitten anyone and only barked because someone shoved their face towards her and barked at her. My daughter assured them my dog was not aggressive and did not even lunge as the cashier Tash stated my dog lunged and tried to bite the customer. My dog has finished 2 training classes and is on track to be a registered therapy dog and has 0 aggression problems, no bite history, and no behavioral issues. After less than 5 seconds my dog stopped barking (she only barked at the customer twice) and I went through the store without any other issues. The other cashier was kind and apologized for the interaction. Horrible customer experience with a terribly rude employee which I later learned was not even an employee at the store, and was a manager from an entirely different store. Definitely would not want to come back to a store if a cashier screamed at me without even having a foot in the store.

It doesn’t seem they’re understaffed because many employees were just standing around taking to each other. They are out of stock of many things and the fabric is sloppily put on the shelves and not in the right places. When the employee was cutting my fabric, she wasn’t straightening it out before she cut, so it’s not an even cut. That laziness can mess up the length of fabric and could mess up someone’s sewing project. The young man at the cash register was nice though. It’s slightly better than the Woodbridge location, but still a messy store and it’s not even that big, so it shouldn’t be hard to keep tidy.
