I will NEVER bring my dog here ever again. I do not trust these people with my dog’s care. They lack compassion, don’t respond in a timely manner and just look at you as a dollar sign. They’ve been nothing but unprofessional and unpleasant to work with this entire process which has only caused more stress. Coming here was a huge mistake. They came up with over $900 in new/random charges 4 days before my dog’s surgery. I was “assure” her surgery would be within a certain range (email proof) and they refused to give me an estimate when I requested it 2 weeks ago. I was spoken very rudely on the phone multiple times when asked questions and for clarity before signing paperwork. My dog’s care is the most important, but these people were ridiculous. I decided to cancel and book elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and go to Columbia Pike Animal Hospital. I’ve always been treated with respect there and no hidden fees they try to squeeze out of you last minute. I genuinely feel like they care about my pets. When VCA sees this review and tries calling, don’t bother. I won’t be bribed to take down this HONEST review. I’ll never bring my dog back here so nothing you could have to offer would be worth answering a call. Just get better practices and train people better.

Everyone please be mindful of this business. We lost full confidence in the decision making taking place here. Our almost 15 year old Boston Terrier was a patient of the ophthalmology department. Historically, we had amazing experiences with VCA in San Diego. Our doctor was so caring and kind. Went there many years prior to making our way to the DMV. Unfortunately, this transition stopped once we started going here. This place is a business and they will make sure you feel that. In order to get a monthlyprescription refill, you have to make non-stop follow up appointments. When in San Diego, we visited every 6 months and it was perfect. Here… not so much. You feel hostage to their business model and your bank account will feel it.Most recently, we were told (not by the Doctor but the office manager) that our dogs eye needs to come out because of a pressure check from his local vet. Did we emphasize to the manager that his pressure goes up and down when he’s stressed? (It happens all of the time and we know this because we give him his eye pressure meds multiple times a day.) Yes. Did she care to hear that? Nope. VCA held firm on needing the eye removed and would not prescribe the monthly eye drops needed to keep his pressure down. How cruel, if you think about it.Furthermore, HE’S ALMOST 15!! Why would we ever put him through that type of surgery at his age?! Still can’t get over how a conversation like this was pushed off to the mgr because clearly the doctor had better things to do. Again, no conversation on us wanting to keep the drops going.. simply a surgery or nothing. After that conversation, I lost faith in this place and moved on. There’s other options out there.Oh did I mention we made an appointment with the office once (their date suggestion) and when we showed up and sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes, we found out the doctor didn’t even work that day? Nice work , South Paws..Oh, his eye pressure is back down by the way. Just as we knew would happen.

I can't say enough good. The surgeon and oncologist we are working with are so thorough. Such a personal connection from the front desk, to the schedulers, to the discharge nurses. Lucky to have them help our girl.

I had an ultrasound appointment today for my elderly German Shepherd Kaiser. Cynthia, the attending radiologist could not have been more professional, courteous, and informative. I was allowed to be present for the procedure to keep my boy calm and she walked us both through the process and kept me calm as well.Vets can be a source of great stress for both owner and pet alike and my experience here was very positive. Despite me basically being on edge and very worried, Cynthia made me feel reassured that my best friend was getting the critical care he needed. It also doesn't hurt that we had a favorable outcome, but I was prepared for the worst and Kaiser was well taken care of. I didn't catch the name of the vet tech that helped carry my boy on and off the table but he was also awesome and showed a great deal of tenderness for a very stressed out animal. He was a true professional as well.I would absolutely recommend VCA Southpaws for critical care in their Radiology department.

Picked them out of urgency as my cat needed immediate care and the closest option was understaffed.I was very impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the entire staff. They took great care of my cat and did an excellent job of explaining everything. Hopefully I won’t have to visit again, but wouldn’t hesitate to if there’s ever another emergency. I’m just so thankful that my cat is still here.

We sadly had to say goodbye to our sweet boy Sammy recently. Southpaws and Dr. Vachher were so helpful and kind, they even sent us a handwritten letter of condolences afterwards. Will definitely return when our dogs need care.

We went in at 4am Friday morning and the wait was minimal. The staff and Dr. Smolski were very nice and only recommended treatment that was necessary. The doctor even followed up the next day to see how our dog was doing and really appreciated it.

Our 11 year old dog developed sepsis due to a negligent “dentist” and they were fantastic in their care for him. He was in the hospital for 5 days. The doctors updated us several times a day and met with us when we came to see our dog each day. They were always willing to answer our questions and spend as much time as needed to ease our concerns. I would recommend them to anyone.

My senior kitty was referred here for diagnostic imaging due to recent unexplained weight loss. Dr. Nelson was thorough and answered all of my (many) questions. I was also so appreciative that we were allowed to be in the room as he was doing the ultrasound. I read many reviews before coming here that mentioned the high cost of services and yes, their services can be pricey (for reference: it was slightly over $1,000 for an abdominal ultrasound with an appointment, not as an emergency walk-in). That said, the cost is reflective of the type of services they provide. I hope I am fortunate enough to never have to come here again; but I wouldn't hesitate to return and would recommend VCA SouthPaws to anyone looking for a specialist's insight on their pet's health.

I'm updating my review after nearly 14 months of care from VCA Southpaws' Oncology team, specifically Dr. Korec and Dr. O'Day and their team of compassionate nurses and support staff. While I never, ever wanted my dog to be in their care, I cannot think of a more qualified, kind group of people to be on your team while navigating cancer with your pet. I know there are other reviews here that say otherwise, but VCA Southpaws is where you want to go if you are facing cancer. Our family is forever indebted to the love we were shown throughout Bill's diagnosis, treatment and ultimate passing from our first check-in to our final check-out._____We were referred to VCA Southpaws after our primary veterinarian suspected lymphoma for our chocolate Labrador. Admittedly, I was hesitant because a previous experience at VCA in another state was not the greatest. I walked into our first oncology appointment with some hesitancy. That said, I have been completely blown away by the care we have received from the oncology team -- specially nurses Keri and Sam and doctors O'Day and Korec. During one of the darkest periods of our lives (surprise cancer diagnosis for our 6-year-old dog) we have felt so well taken care of and understood. The nurses and doctors have been patient, answered every single question in detail, called to check in between appointments and have always let us stay in the room while our dog gets his chemo. We were afraid of having to sit in the car or not be able to enter the building. While I cannot speak for any other parts of this particular VCA location, the oncology department is top of the line and I trust them with ongoing treatment for our baby.

We had to take our old Shih Tzu into VCA Emergency Care at 4am and the team could not have been nicer. Particular thanks to Dr Pan who showed such care to both Stubby and to us, both during and then after our visit. We had to make the hard decision to let Stubby go, comforted only in that it was the right decision. Thanks Dr Pan for being so understanding and sending a beautiful message in the condolence card. It really meant a lot.

We brought our cat in late on a Sunday night after she had a seizure at home. We ultimately decided to euthanize our girl when we determined that her quality of life would not be worth the pain and anxiety that additional testing and treatments would require. It was an awful decision to make, but Dr. Hirsh could not have been kinder or more compassionate. We were able to be with our cat, holding her, as she passed. I will be forever grateful for the gentle care that all of us received from SouthPaws.
