I came into this store tonight to pick-up one of their $7.00' tuna sandwiches. I ended up leaving with the tuna sandwich, as well as, a twelve pack of pellegrino water. They have a pretty decent selection of pre made sandwiches, but I'm a creature of habit, and I really like tuna because of the health factor. I've been to this store on several occasions, and I've always had a decent experience. I have never witnessed any shortages of items, at least for the things that I buy. The store is tidy and clean as you would expect. I paid for my items with the self checkout lane, so I didn't have an interaction with an employee. The sandwich is delicious as always, and a great value!

Safeway in Virginia is almost never the highest quality of grocery store, but this store easily takes the cake for the worst. The meat department often is under stocked and the selection absolutely sucks in every way, not to mention it smells far worse than any other meat department I've ever entered. I swear I can walk in on any day and find items that are either opened or expired. The cheese coolers look like there's a black goop or mold plastered across the black wall that would make any and all cheese available unappealing, if it was even stocked with enough cheese to buy in the first place. Every time I enter, there are never ever enough cashiers and lines form all the time. While the Starbucks is very nice, clean, and new, I swear they need maybe 50 more employees just to keep up with the volume of orders. If you are going there for a quick morning coffee, you may have to sit down for a minute cause whoever is in charge of hiring is utterly incompetent. The men's bathroom is a disaster and seems a decade out of date, despite clear spending on updating unimportant fixtures to "beautify" an already disaster of a store. Every employee I interact with seems perfectly fine and friendly, I always get the best service, I just can't understand how the management is so disorganized as to prioritize small details over the failing health standards throughout. I've worked in grocery stores before and we never would've gotten away with that standard when the health department arrives to inspect. I don't know if they just don't have a store manager or if the store manager is stingy or what but my god hire more employees the environment and standards suck and are straight up unsanitary. Never buy anything fresh from this store i swear. The wine section and floral sections are beautiful and it would be a crime to not commend that, and the Starbucks and bakery are very nice quality, but the major bulk of the store could not be any worse.

I received my order at pick up area, didn't find out until back home. It is not acceptable to provide your customer with the mould on organic strawberries!!!

Lines are to long. They need more employees. Isle items are usually not neatly stocked. To many items on sale (all Safeway's). Just lower the price! I lived near this store for many years, but drove a little extra to go to Wegman's. I think Wegman's is doing 10 times the business of this store and most other Safeway's. They need to figure out why.

Absolute ripoff. Tried to buy 6 sale items today. Two rung up without the sale price. This, in my opinion, in not an accident or error. Be prepared to spend an extra 15 minutes at checkout to escort the idiots around pointing out the problems. Buyer beware!!!!

This review is strictly of the Customer Service desk in relation to receiving a Western Union transfer. I've never had to send or receive a transfer before, but my bank suggested it as a workaround when my electronic transfer of funds between banks was delayed by 72 hours and I had to pay a contractor at my house same day. She initiated two Western Union transfers for $999 each, she sent me the money transfer control numbers (MTCNs), and looked up locations where I could pick it up. She said "Any Safeway grocery store can do it." I arrived at 6:30pm on a Monday. I waited about 4-5 minutes with two wriggly impatient kids as the Customer Service desk helped a woman trying to buy cigarettes and lottery tickets. There was only one employee working the desk. When it was my turn, I explained what type of assistance I needed. She seemed unsure, so a manager was paged. Clearly not many people have a need for Western Union transfers, or at least not on the receiving end. After I showed the MTCN and my ID, she started to process the transaction and then said "I can give you $500 in cash, and the rest will be a money order." I said, no - the reason we did a Western Union transfer was so that I could receive cash to pay my contractor. She said sorry, that's store policy. I said, "Well your other Safeway cashed out one transfer for $999 just fine 2 hours ago. Why does your store have this policy and the other does not? Aren't you a corporate chain?" She said every store sets their own policy and there was nothing she could do. I wasn't about to initiate only a partial payout of a money transfer, and then run into headaches later as I explain why I only received some of the $ and not all. So we wasted 15 minutes in total here, and I had nothing to show for the trouble. This was Safeway #2 of 3 in my odyssey to get the second Western Union transfer processed. It was amazing the lengths I had to go to for two Western Union money transfers. Seriously, don't advertise you're a participating Western Union transfer location if you're only willing to take $ for outgoing transfers and aren't prepared to receive and cash out a transfer. Secondly, there shouldn't be some store policy that precludes someone from receiving a full transfer. The maximum transfer is $999, and you as a participating store should be prepared and willing to honor the full transfer. I understood not having enough on hand for two, because I know Western Union transfers are a bit of a holdout from a bygone era; but be prepared for at least one!

I have never liked this place. Today makes me dislike Safeway even more. It is Christmas Day. The Safeway website says they will remain open until 4pm. I arrived at 3:15 pm and there was a line in front of the closed store. Everyone acted on what the hours posted. This of course is added to consistently rude employees. I am sorry, Safeway just sucks! There are so many other options,.

Walked into the Safeway to see more than a half dozen people not wearing masks. When I asked Daniel--the store manager on duty at the time who seemed irritated that I was asking-- why there were so many people not wearing masks, he responded that Safeway isn't implementing a mask policy and never has. WHAT?!! Seems like a strange and inappropriate response when there is a mandatory mask mandate in VA, there are signs on the doors that masks are required and the COVID infection rates are increasing. This is the last straw. The customer service there is always subpar and management doesn't seem to care about any of it. I won't be shopping there anymore. Do better, Safeway.

Their self-checkout machines need to be replaced. Each time I used one, it would tell me 'Please scan the last item placed in the bag', which, of course, brings the suspicious Indian attendant over to eyeball me. She knows I've spent countless thousands in that store, and yet when the machine starts its erroneous chatter, she'd rather ask me to 'rescan' something I've already scanned than look into fixing it. I told management, but the machines are still there. I no longer shop there. Also, why is their produce always spoiled?

I've lived in the area for over 2 years. They are open 24 hours. Fruit, vegetables and flowers are fresh and meat/fish section is fresh. So not sure why they got a 1.5 so I'm a little perplexed. Just wanted to say my piece. If you live close to this place like myself it is a great grocery store.

On Friday I shopped this store and while checking out at a self service checkout register, I chose $20 cash back. However, I forgot to grab the bill from the dispenser. I called the store once I got home, but the Safeway attendant for self service checkout had gone home for the day. I thought that there was no way I'd see that money. The following Monday I visited the store to by lunch items and the same self service checkout attendant was working. She remembered the event and had printed out a duplicate receipt, attached the $20 and gave it to her manager. She took me to the store manager whom retreived the $20 from the store safe and gave it to me. Apparently, it is not uncommon for customers to forget to take their cash from the dispenser. I was told a lady had forgotten to take her $60 from the dispenser and the attendant held the money for her to retrieve. I am really impressed with the honesty of the Safeway attendant and management staff! How refreshing!

I would give it half a star if allowed. I have been going to this store at Ox Rd in Fairfax for many years. The store is not the best and there has been many issues over the years such as moldy bread and expired items, but the shopping experience has been mostly uneventful despite the persistent shortage of rather unhelpful cashiers. I have never asked for help at that store to get friendly and willing assistance. Today the Cafe had the temperature at the chicken station set so high that the container was melting and I nearly burned myself. I pointed that out to the gentleman at the Deli and he lowered the temperature but left the chicken there in their melting containers... The young man at the cashier today was not rude but although he looked no older than 18 he was unnervingly low energy and uninterested in his work. This kind of thing bothers me but I can pretty much deal with all of it and head home without giving any of it much thought. However, there was a rather unsettling event at that store today around 5pm or so that is really hard to overlook. Some large woman felt entitled to pick on the Hispanic lady in front of her at the line and next thing we knew the she started using profanities and intimidating body language. Pretty disturbing behavior bordering on harassment and such a blatant and unwarranted disrespect. The manager on duty was called and informed but apparently did not want to get involved. In fact, he acted like he didn't give two cents. He returned to his station and never came back. The correct thing would have been to ask the offensive lady to leave the store or at a minimum move over to the other line so things would not escalate. Nobody should have to endure profanities and threatening body language at their local grocery store. The management today was a total and epic fail! These people will be collecting unemployment benefits pretty soon if that is what they would prefer because I can't imagine that the OX Rd Safeway will be around for much longer with such level of disregard to customers.

John Walker the Assistant Manager at Safeway in Towne Center Fairfax is rude, unprofessional, hostile and extremely prejudiced against ethnic customers. I'm a 63 year old male and have Mediterranean ethnicity. I've been living in Northern Virginia for 46 years and actually got my college education here back in the 70s. I went to this Safeway store on March 12th to purchase a few small items. Mr. John Walker who is a large African American gentleman was at the self-checkout. He gave me attitude to authorize purchase of a bottle of wine. He was rude when I used the hand sanitizer and acted as if I made a mess on the register. This man was kissing up to every Caucasian customer, but felt comfortable to mistreat me! When I complained he snapped and screamed "YOU'VE LOST YOUR MIND". John Walker was out of control, he got real close and was ready to hit me. I asked for the Manager, he screamed at me again I AM THE MANAGER! He's not the Store Manager and lied. I suggest all ethnic customers in the neighborhood to stay away from this Safeway Store as long as John Walker works there!

If you don't want to spend your whole paycheck at Whole Foods this is a real alternative . The vegetables are sometimes fresh, but at other times they are not. Checkout is rather nonchalant.
