If I could give 10 stars I would. On the way there my tires burst so we took an uber for the rest of the way. The volunteers and owners were soooo sweet and accommodating. When it was time to go back we couldn’t find an uber so they drove us all the way to a place where we were able to get an uber back. They are just kind people. Also the ride was sooooo nice and scenic.

Oh my goodness. I cannot speak more highly of this place. The couple is so so sweet and they were unbelievably patient with my nervous 7 year old. The fields/trails we went through were beautiful and the horses were really calm and sweet. It's about an hour and fifteen away from fairfax city and we will definitely be making another trip in the future. Thank you!!!!

Absolutely amazing experience! Dasha was super friendly and the horses were very well cared for. We booked a private ride and were able to trot and canter in the fields. Would definitely do it again if we go back to the area.

Quality horses. Very good at personalizing.
Trails were great for those who are low experience. Horses were well kept.

We loved everything about this place! As an experienced rider I’m sometimes cautious about trail riding places but this one really impressed me! The horses are fit, well muscled and have tack that fits them well. The actual ride was beautiful and our guide was so kind and helpful. I’d feel safe putting anyone on one of their horses and I also enjoyed it as someone who rides regularly. I’m already planning our next trip back!

We love these folks! We have a weekend place nearby and try to come for a trail ride every time we visit. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly and patient. The horses are gentle and obviously well cared for. And of course the trails and scenery are beautiful. The price for all of this is quite reasonable. It’s a small family business, and clearly a labor of love for the owners.

Very disappointing and unprofessional communication
We were really looking forward to our ride at Secret Passage Ranch and had what we believed was a confirmed booking. The day before, we exchanged text messages with them clearly stating the number of people and the time. Everything seemed set.
However, on the day of the ride, while we were already en route, we called to confirm and were told that they didn’t have a booking for us. They repeatedly said “it wasn’t their fault,” offering no apology or solution. The person on the phone was extremely unclear and rude, and the entire situation felt very unprofessional.

First time observations at this ranch:
1) There are ONLY 4 individual covered areas from the sun where the horses spend most of the day after each trail ride. There are atleast 6-7 horses unsheltered from the sun tied up with no free access to water unless brought to filthy water troughs full of algae to be monitored while drinking. According to staff, the trail horses will do 4-5 trail rides a day depending on the horse, back to back. During our 2 hour trail ride, the horses that were tied up before we left were still in the SAME spots… restless, and without access to water or shade from the SUN !
2) The horses that are out in fenced in areas also have NO shelter from the sun and during this visit had ZERO water in their troughs, and I mean zero.
The fenced in areas are all over grazed and full of weeds.
3) The large over pastured area that had a large amount of “injured” horses in it had one tiny “run in” shed that 100% was not big enough for all those horses.
4) There was a portion of the trail through the woods that was EXTREMELY rocky and every horse was having difficulty navigating these rocks. Ridiculous.
5) If you are going to use horses as a business, then they deserve the essentials… water and shelter.
6) I gave it 2 stars because the staff was very nice and the ride was nice… if you are able to overlook the other issues which I cannot .

My friends and I had such a wonderful time here! Our trail guide Dasha was so kind and so patient with us despite us taking a bunch of pictures 🥰 you can tell the owners care so much for their livestock. Will definitely be back again !
