When I test drove the car a tire error lite up on the dashboard. The salesperson said he could fix it and took the car to the service area for an hour. The light went away and I purchased the car. Two days later the light came back on. I took it to the nearest CarMax and was advised my wheel was cracked and scratch up from the inside. Because it was bent up the tire couldn’t hold air. I was advised the car was not safe to drive. The kind service representative gave me a loaner. It is almost two weeks later and I still do not have my car back from the carmax service team. I purchased the car on 2/14/24. It is 2/29/24 and it has been at the carmax service since 2/19/24. Why would carmax sale me a car that is unsafe to jeopardize my life and other drivers surrounding me? This is unethical and unprofessional. This has been a horrible experience. Once I finally get my car back I will take it to a Mercedes service area for a full inspection which will cost me $300. But at least I’ll have a peace of mind that I’m not driving a death trap.

Excellent customer service. I have bought and sold multiple cars through them. And it's always been a smooth transaction. I highly recommend them

The sales guys are great but the experience was horrible. I bought a corvette drove it home check engine light was on as soon as I got home so it went to there service dept for a week only to be told that it could not be fixed due to back order on parts so I tried for another corvette they had which again I had to take to there service failed inspection and drove with a vibration they had it for 2 weeks I get it back and it still did not drive right so I had to return that as well because I got 2 cars from them my credit took a huge hit went down 60 points and I still show an open account balance so I can't even buy a car from anywhere else because of them not to mention I paid cash for my down-payment which I needed to buy another car but I had to wait almost 2 weeks to get that back worst car buying experience ever car max does not inspect there cars like they say they do buyer beware

Will never buy a car again from them bought a 2014 Honda accord from them 4 days later brought it back for an alternator and the trunk leaked waterThey proceed to tell me that they shouldn’t have sold me the car due to the frame damage on it So they were “nice “ enough to order me the exact same car from another location when the car finally showed up they said they did a bunch of work to it I don’t even make it out of there parking lot before had some loud noise coming from the rear of the carThen they said they would “fix it” like somebody really just did all that work and said “yeah that’s good “I don’t know what clowns and hacks they have working in the shop who ever looks at the cars or works on them DOES NOT DO THEIR JOB AT ALLAnd they said they would reimburse me for the window tint I put on the first car a day after I got it went in to finish paying the equity I owed on my trade in and all of sudden no one knows anything about itDO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THESE SCAM ARTISTS !!!!!!!!!!

Purchased a 2014 CR-V, with 29K miles, on June 2023. The vehicle was for my daughter going off to school in the upcoming spring semester. Come November 2023, it is at Pohanka Honda for costly transmission service for a known issue covered in Honda Service Bulletin 15-086. The fix requires updating transmission software and replacing transmission fluid for a transmission shudder in low gears. The car shakes during low-speed acceleration. The CarMax extended warranty does not cover most of the cost and I will be out $500. The fix may not solve the situation but is a required first step prior to executing Honda Service Bulletin 17-040. Before this incident there were other issues that I initially gave Carmax a pass on. They sold the car with a missing radio antenna and broken XM antenna. I did not notice it until I brought the vehicle home. Although Carmax fixed it, after a month, it took a few trips to the shop to correct an item that should have been caught on the advertised "125-point inspection." The other issue, they sent me home with someone else's Virginia Tags. A couple days later I received the correct tags. The point is, do not rely on the assertions that Carmax is performing a detailed inspection on working condition, missing/broken items, and open service bulletins. Also read the fine print on the CarMax extended warranty on what is not covered. **UPDATE 28NOV23** - The car is still at the dealership as it now needs the torque converter replaced. However, the part is on backorder, dealer says it could take 2 days or 2 months, unknown ETA. ***UPDATE 14DEC23*** CR-V still at dealer. Now it could be 3 months or more due to lack of national inventory of torque converters. ***UPDATE 27DEC23**** Car still broke and at dealer. No torque converter in sight. We originally bought the car for my daughter to take to school. She will be leaving in my old truck until the car comes back. ***UPDATE 9JAN24*** New Year with no car. CR-V still at dealer no timetable to resolve issue. I see the CarMax social media team has responded to the review. I will give them a call and review their response. ***Update 1FEB24*** Still don't have the car. A few weeks ago I did contact the Carmax customer care line. They took notes and used their best compassionate voices. As a result, the Fredericksburg Service manager called. During our discussion he indicated he was well aware for the torque converter problems. The statement is comical because this is the location that sold the bad car with the open service bulletins for the faulty torque converter. Anyways they offered to put us in a loaner that my daughter could drive. We drove down an hour only to find it was only good for 15 days and then we would have to come back in. That didn't work and Carmax wasted more of our time. I will never buy another car from Car Max. In my opinion, their "inspections" are nothing more than a sales gimmick. In the end I paid too much for a used car my daughter can't use. Seems like they sold me a lemon but will not do the right thing and take this car back. Always trust the 1 star reviews, you know with your luck it will be you as well in a bad spot should you disregard.....

Our experience selling a 2015 Nissan Murano to CarMax went very smoothly! All the employees we met were professional, friendly, and competent, and they seemed to enjoy working there. The kind, empathetic employee who told us what they had decided to pay for our car communicated well and genuinely wanted to make sure we were not disappointed. He showed us the Kelly Blue Book value on the computer (which we had already looked up), and they had actually come up with a fair price that was near the top of the range on kbb.com for a Murano with the same year, mileage, and features as ours. It was a quick, easy, way to sell a car, which was just what we wanted. You might get more money selling privately, but that will take lots more work and time than we were willing to put into this transaction.

When I tell you, I was avoiding the car buying process for the longest time… is an understatement. I had been to multiple dealerships before and I hated my experience until I got to CarMax. I was helped out by Ahman and he was the absolute very best. I had bought a car from CarMax in the past and I had a wonderful experience but he made my most recent experience a 12/10. From the moment I walked through the doors, He went above and beyond to hear what I wanted and what i was looking for and helped find the perfect car for me. He definitely made sure to communicate with me every step of the way and always updated me about any changes or potential issues. I had been looking for a vehicle for a while but I’m glad that I decided to go to CarMax because it made my car buying experience 10x more enjoyable! Shout out to Ahman for being so patient and helpful! He deserves a raise or a promotion!

My experience was very pleasant. Everything was straight forward and no B.S. Only thing was in description of car. It said the car had massage seats, and the in fact does not. Would recommend.

Terry went above and beyond to make sure the process was quick and easy and ensured my truck was in perfect order, even going out of his way to make sure some spots were buffed out without me even asking. I later took the truck to a third party mechanic who stated the truck was in perfect condition.

Most awful experience. First I pulled into the parking lot and rain over empty liquor bottles. I got my car appraised and the next morning realized there were black marks on the interior of my car. When I called them about it and said they did not do it. (Mind you I just looked over my car two days ago cause I plan to sell it). Don’t go there.

My wife and I have purchased four cars over the years from Carmax. Prices on the lot may be slightly higher, but that is more than offset by the fact that the cars have been rigorously checked out by Carmax. Our last trip to Carmax (Fredericksburg) was the best ever. Our sales guy, Russell Killcrece, was superb in his total approach. His product knowledge was great. His approach to all aspects of the transaction couldn't have been better. For example, when I noticed the owner's manual was missing and emailed him about it, he responded within 15 minutes on a Saturday morning to let me know that they'd reimburse me for a replacement asap. We live 50 miles away in Richmond, but we'll be heading back when it's time for our next car. Carmax Fredericksburg is our new "go to" dealer!

We dealt with this carmax several times already and always the process is easy and fast. I do want to point out Esther from the business office - extremely accommodating and goes above and beyond for customers. She helped us so much in our unique situation that I can’t even thank her enough! She followed up with calls, gave us all the information and overall was so friendly and nice. HUGE thanks! Highly recommend.

TL;DR, Found a vehicle I loved, but when I did my walk around with the vehicle, I pointed out a part that was missing and they basically said you can buy it like that and bring it back later to fix, or were going to sell the car out from under you. Ended up getting everything resolved, but then found out they advertised features that were not on the vehicle, 2 to be precise. No GPS navigation system in the vehicle and no memory seat system. My wife and I are having twins, so we decided on a wonderful 2015 Honda Odyssey, test drove it, fell in love. During our walk around, I noticed that one of the windows was missing a window shade. Ok, no big deal, but also kind of a big deal with infants in the back. I pointed it out, they told me they could fix it and would reach out to parts and see if could be done before I picked it up the next day (it was a Sunday, parts dept wasnt in). Ok, sounds good, set up an appointment the next day to go make the purchase. Next day, reach out to the sales guy (Ben, very nice guy) and ask whats the status on the repair. He says that they dont have the part in, so i'll have to purchase the vehicle and bring it back Friday when the part comes in. I say Ok, well lets hold off on the purchase until thats fixed, I'll swing by Friday and close on the deal. That changed everything. All of the sudden they advised if I dont come and buy the vehicle today, they would put it back on the lot for someone else to buy it. I explained I wanted the vehicle, my wife and I loved it, however I couldnt in good concise purchase a vehicle with missing parts, it doesnt make sense for them not to fix it before I buy it, knowing its broken. They wouldnt budge. Spoke to a manager (think his name was Carlos?), same thing, said that part wasnt a "necessity" and if I didnt buy that day they would put the vehicle back out to be sold to someone else. Spoke to another manager (think is name was Dave?), he said he totally understood where I was coming from, however he couldnt budge since the decision had been made. We never came to a conclusion and I ended up later just calling the corporate number. Spoke to a wonderful lady who understood the issue, agreed that was totally unreasonable, called the store and confirmed my story, and the store reached out 30 minutes later and said "There must have been some confusion, they will hold the vehicle until its repaired".Ended up picking up the vehicle the day it was repaired, that Thursday. The store said that their emissions test were down, so they were not able to do emissions, ok thats a bummer, but i'll figure it out, at this point I just wanted my vehicle. Had it for ONE DAY and realized that it had zero GPS Navigation System that was advertised, one of the three reasons I had chosen it over a similar vehicle. Took it back, they agreed that they had listed the vehicle wrong, and my only option was to return the vehicle. Argued with them to see if I could just get some of my money back, eventually they agreed and after sitting around for about 40 minutes while they came up with a dollar amount. Had to return the vehicle, then buy the vehicle back at a discounted price. Asked if I could do emissions now that I was back, nope its still down.A bit over a month later and I found ANOTHER thing that they advertised that the vehicle doesnt have, Memory Seats, ANOTHER reason I chose this vehicle over a similar option. At this point I dont even know what my options would be for recourse, but cant help but feel slighted. And to top it all off, I get a letter in the mail saying they contacted DMV to revoke my registration since I never got my emissions done. I get that i'm supposed to get it done within a certain amount of time, but they cant show some leniency since their machine was down! Now I have to go to the DMV and reregister a vehicle that I had to fight tooth and nail to purchase, was missing parts, and was falsely advertised. Insane.
