Another business that doesn't train or educate their employees. After over-paying a car payment I stopped at the Fredericksburg branch to ask that the additional funds be applied to the principle of the loan. First the teller told me that that could not be done, flat out, wasn't something that M&T did. I then spoke with the "Assistant Vice President" (isn't Vice like assistant?) Ms. Walker, told her what I was trying to do and was told that they couldn't do it at the branch level. Then I called the Customer Service number and found that they certainly could have made the call and done this for me. Which is all I was asking for.Bad customer service from untrained employees.

I opened two accounts at M&T Bank, after the death of a family member. All of the employees are phenomenal, from ordering checks, to preparing cashiers checks to notary services. They are very patient and understanding. Great customer service.

This review is of the bank itself and not this particular branch, it's just the one I was forced to visit before getting access to my funds. They let me open an account online back in November, deposit a significant amount of money to meet a promotional balance, and do a direct deposit of more funds for another promotion they ultimately didn't honor. As soon as I tried to transfer a portion of my funds to another bank they froze my account. The fraud dept said the branch people put a hold on it, and the branch people said it was the fraud dept. So someone was lying. Both refused to remove it until I visited a branch in-person. So I was forced to take an hour out of my Saturday to visit the branch in order to remove my funds that they decided to hold hostage. Never again will they see a penny from me.

M&T bank changed my interest rate on my va Morgage by changing dates on my Morgage documents 2 years after closing on my house. Telling me they amended it. Sorry to tell them this is bank fraud on disabled veteran on a fixed income. This resulted in them increasing my mortgage over $200 a month July and still no help from them. Management is not helpful and I would recommend not doing business with them. They also started putting my money for my Morgage payments in a unapplied area of the bill to charge me late fees. This branch tries saying they have nothing to do with Morgage's so they can't help. Maybe they need to look and see it's a part of M&T bank and stop passing the buck as they overcharging veterans

The management team and staff have been helpful and accommodating whenever I've had an question or issue. I'd recommend doing business with this location.

M&T is a horrible bank overall. We have our home equity line of credit with them. It took months after opening the account to get the payment date straightened out, despite their repeated assurances at closing. Both branch and back office staff where entirely clueless and unhelpful in resolving the issue. They kept assuring us the correction would be made and then repeatedly failed to deliver. Only after demanding the issue be escalated to senior management was the issue resolved *HOWEVER* without any response, follow up call, or even a simple correspondence. Basically it was a "Fine, whatever. You're a pain so go away." type of response. Their arrogance and ineptitude is overwhelming. Unfortunately we also have a checking & savings account w/M&T. They have so few branches and ATM locations in Virginia that they may as well be invisible. I made a cash checking deposit on 7/8/17. I found out the next day (Sun 7/9) that the incompetent branch staff posted the deposit to the savings account in error. Today (7/9) the CASH deposit is still showing as "pending" and since they're such a tiny bank they don't provide 24/7 customer service so there is nothing I can do to correct their incompetent error until next week. Another example of incompetence: Last December (2016) I went into a local branch to advance funds from our home equity account into our checking account for my wife's Christmas shopping activities later that day. The tellers were so busy talking with each other that they totally mangled the transaction and ended up cancelling my checking debit card entirely!! Their response = Ooops, we're sorry. We'll get the funds transfer and your new debit card processed within 3-5 days. Meanwhile our Christmas shopping was screwed, we missed out on several promotional offers so we had to pay more money, and we end up having to forego specific items because they sold out before M&T could get their heads out a very dark place and correct their error. We're actively looking for a new provider for all of our banking needs and considering filing a complaint with the CFPB. Which I would encourage any other M&T client to do as well. In summary: This bank is an absolute disaster and a total blight upon the community. If you're looking for a financial provider avoid M&T like the plaque!!
