Nice little mom and pops music store has handpercussion. Acoustic guitars and electric guitars. Plus, they have a good selection of vintage guitars.

A friend and I each bought one Vern Bryant fiddle from Picker's Supply. We were not informed that the instruments have significant problems that cannot be corrected. One of the fiddles has a bad neck projection angle and poorly set neck, and also needs a new nut to correct the string height and placement. The tailpiece needs to be replaced to correct a too short afterlength, and the bridge needs to be replaced. These repairs by my luthier would cost $1,200. The other fiddle needs a raised nut, new bridge, smaller soundpost, and new tailpiece. The saddest news is that Vern glued his instruments using wood glue, not hide glue. This means that the neck repairs cannot be made, and any soundpost adjustments will be difficult. Also, because the tops were glued with wood glue, the instruments will not move with weather conditions and may crack in low humidity. As soon as my luthier examined the instruments, I contacted Picker's Supply about these problems, particularly the wood glue issue. They never replied to me. We were each given only one day to take the instruments home and evaluate them. No reputable shop forces you to decide in one day. The industry standard is one week so that you have a chance to take it to your luthier and to play it enough to get a good feeling for it. Also, while I was at the shop, the salesperson told me that a crack in another fiddle's peg box, all the way through to the peg bushing, was not a structural defect. Picker's Supply has a great reputation with mandolin, banjo, and guitar players. But I don't recommend that anyone buy a fiddle from the shop. They do not have the experience necessary to properly evaluate and set up fiddles, and apparently they don't stand behind their work either. Very disappointing.

I play music full time, and burn through strings about as fast as I do gasoline. Chances are, the next closest place on maps will have some in stock. But this is the place to go to when I need something specific... A bone bridge? Tuner upgrade? They have them, in the right size, and in stock. These guys have been at it a long time, and probably (no, definitely) know more about guitars than you and I put together. Still the best around.

Fredericksburg has a real Main St , both a full downtown with shoppes of all types of specialty stores. This was a great store for all things guitars, cellos, violins, ukulele, and various other musical selections. I was in a wheel chair, and could get in and watch as my grandchild look at an electric guitar. Knowledgeable staff, great service.. a place for those that are serious about music.

If you're visiting Fredericksburg this is the first store you should go to. I really love Picker's Supply for their huge selection of instruments. If you look past the dozens of beautiful guitars and banjos you can find more uncommon instruments. So far I have purchased three instruments from them and I felt the pricing was very reasonable. My old tenor banjo had some fret buzz so I brought it in to have Matt look at it. He ended up swapping out the bridge. He didn't push for more dramatic repairs, just what was needed to get this thing playable. At a later date I brought in an old guitar to see what it would cost to get it to be playable. Matt gladly took the guitar and had his luthier look at. He was completely upfront with me and told me the cost to repair would be many times more than what I paid for the guitar. He was extremely understanding when I decided not to go through with the repair. In summary I have always found Matt to be very knowledgable, direct, and trustworthy.

I know picker's has a beautiful selection of acoustic instruments, fantastic teachers on staff and does quality repair work. Unfortunately, their minimum bench price for simple guitar repairs is inaccessible for a lot of downtown people, at $50, or 6-7 hours worth of labor at minimum wage- even for quick, easy jobs that I know other shops would do for $10-25 ($15 at Bang! in Stafford). There are no competing stores within walking downtown anymore to justify the 'boutique' pricing for basic repairs to basic instruments, leaving townie musicians on a budget SOL. Just wish our only music shop here in Fred felt like it was for everyone.

Downtown institution, and rightfully so. Knowledgeable staff and everything you would need for things with strings.

Brought in my fathers Taylor 214ce guitar that was passed on to me down and was helped out by Thomas who I’ve meet before. He did a great job filling the saddle down so that the upper action wasn’t a mile off the freight board. No buzzing as well either from the hard playing I’ve done since bring it back home. Great local music store in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg, would recommend giving it a look if your down there.

Horrible experience is an understatement. Buyer Beware and stay away from these folks. If I could give less than 1 star I would.
