Charming inn, wonderful hosts, and delicious breakfasts. The afternoon cookies and brandy were a nice touch. And conveniently located on Caroline Street in the heart of the historic district. Highly recommend the Richard Johnston Inn.

The RJI was the perfect place to stay in Fredericksburg. Located in the middle of the historic district, close to shops and great dining. Our suite was wonderful, well decorated and very comfortable. The personnel operating the inn were very helpful and friendly. My wife and I are already planning our next visit.

Lovely area in downtown Fredericksburg; easy walking to historic buildings full of unique shops and restaurants. Quaint and comfortable room, and we enjoyed talking with guests in the parlor. Breakfast was wonderful.

We love to stay in historic inns. And this one was very special. We stayed in the old 1770 Kitchen House, with a huge fireplace and brick floors. We were told it may have been a tavern at one point. We had a separate entrance leading to a pleasant patio and because we were in back of the main house, it was very quiet. The location was amazing, right in the middle of the Caroline Street shops and restaurants. The staff was exemplary, helpful in all ways. And the breakfast, served in the main house, was elegant, creative and delicious. Thank you Liz and Marissa for a great stay!

Location - Location - Location. Coupled with outstanding accommodations and excellent breakfasts - there is no better place to stay when visiting historic Fredericksburg - my wife and I very much enjoyed our five day vacation at your beautiful Inn - thank you!

We wanted to love this place but we found ourselves irritated by lots of little things. Very cute rooms to look at but too much nic-nac stuff leaving no place for my stuff. I kept moving things out of the way. The cheap shower curtain liner kept wrapping around my body making showering a chore. No water in the Keurig coffee maker on day 3 and no where to fill it myself or by the other couple except hold it under the bathtub tap, which we weren’t gonna do. The staff doesn’t show up for work until 8am so us ‘early risers’ did without. Food was just okay. Not amazing, but seasoned well. It was fine. Had to pay $1 for each bottled water. Guess I could have used that to pour into the Keurig. Coffee is pretty important. Ought to have it brewed up and ready to go. Anyway, the worst thing was the, I assume, kid's racing their trucks, cars and motorcycles down the street over and over again. We nearly called the police. Why in the world is that allowed to go on in this quaint, historical town?! Ear plugs were provided in the room! That was our first clue to what to expect. It’s not R. Johnson’s B&B fault but it is going on every night. In summary, cute place, food was decent, close to train station but we won’t stay there a second time.

This charming B&B conveniently located in historic downtown Fredericksburg, VA has many dining, shopping and site seeing options within walking distance. There’s a splash pad and par core jr. course in the park across the street from this B&B’s beautifully decorated and shaded patio. This park has beautiful views of the Rappahannock River. Across the street from the Inn’s front door there is a visitor center run by a knowledgeable staff with some fun scavenger hunt options (we enjoyed the interactive river otter hunt).
Every morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared at the Inn by an incredible staff. Each staff member is helpful, respectful and eager to help visitors tailor a Fredericksburg experience. We are looking forward to another visit to The Richard Johnston Inn to enjoy this vibrant city.
Rooms: Our suite has plenty of room for a young family of four. The kitchenette has many amenities and storage space which is very nice if you plan to stay more than one night or you are in town to visit family. On arrival to the Inn the room was clean and comfortably maintained. This Inn does have air conditioning as well as a dehumidifier that is adjustable to the visitors comfort. There are several laundromat options within a short drive and one has drop options.
Nearby activities: Fredericksburg is very clean! In addition to taking advantage of scavenger hunts and the local outdoor outfitters, we took advantage of several unique historical opportunities. We look forward to another visit to the FAM (Fredericksburg Area Museum), and several other local historic locations that we discovered during our scavenger hunt. The staff at all of these sites are exceptional! The weather was very hot and most locations provided free cold water and a lot of encouragement or answering our questions. We look forward to returning with our bicycles, scooters or hoverboards. This town is also very pet friendly.
Walkability: For active families, The Richard Johnston Inn and Fredericksburg has many options. The River Park is excellent for getting the day started or winding down in the early evening. Our kids are three years apart, but we easily completed scavenger hunts around town as well as taking advantage of a local outdoor outfitter for kayaking and paddle boarding. Meals at local restaurants accommodate a wide variety of tastes and there is a small grocery within walking distance of the Inn.

What a wonderful Inn. We needed a Pet Friendly room and it was beautiful. We had a fenced in Courtyard. The staff was friendly and outgoing and full of information. We will go back.

We had a fantastic stay at the Richard Johnston Inn! The room was large (we stayed in room 10 off the patio) and super clean. The location is ideal, right in Old Town Fredericksburg - we able to walk everywhere. The breakfast the next morning was outstanding! I would highly recommend!
