Royal Oak Bookshop, open since 1975, is a favorite of booklovers with an atmosphere of warmth. The shop generates an invitation to browse with thousands of used, out of print, rare, sale, and new books in stock. It features Virginiana, children's books, and Civil War history, but has a large selection in all categories and is very organized by theme. The very nice, professional, and helpful staff have a good grasp of the stock and care about customer needs, helping to obtain books not in stock. The store has a nice atmosphere and, as a bonus, has traditional bookstore cats and a very friendly shop dog. Shoppers note the overwhelming, never-ending pit of used books where they can get lost in the stacks and discover real gems. The shop also offers a newish titles section, fun collectable items, and gives credit for brought books. It is located off I-66 Exit 6 on US 340 and is open every day except Wednesday.

Magical place, it opens up and has a large selection of used books and the staff was nice to me even though all I bought was a copy of fight club while wearing all black and a baseball cap.Highly recommend.
