Dr. Dove and his staff will take good care of you and your dog. He's the premiere dog obstetrician in Virginia, so if you're a breeder, he's your guy. But honestly, he's a goodhearted dog lover who will do what's best for your pup.

Very disappointing end to our relationship with Companion Animal Clinic. We have been loyal patients for 2 and half years until today's appointment when out of nowhere we were indirectly advised that our dog was internally deemed a "dangerous" dog and he was not able to be seen unless Brian was available. We have no idea who Brian is. We were not aware that Brian needed to be a part of our dog's care until today. The reason for our complaint is that the front desk never communicated any of this astonishing information to us at any other visits. They made us all very uncomfortable and even as I write this I have no understanding to how my Frenchie is being internally "flagged." Customer service and communication is not a strong suit for this clinic. The doctor also refused to come out and give her explanation. We are sorry to say that we're no longer going to be a part of this clinic where they treat patients in a very disrespectful manner!

Unprofessional receptionists and overall care. I had to repeat myself multiple times in regards to what I needed/wanted for my appointment. They are not thorough with their work. How they speak is unprofessional. Receptionists shouldn't be diagnosing what my dog needs, doctor's are supposed to give the OK to what care is allowed for my dog. Miscommunication was throughout the WHOLE APPOINTMENT with the receptionists and the doctor which made me had to repeat myself even more. I didn't get any invoice prior to payment to see the breakdown of WHAT I'M BEING CHARGED FOR. They switched up one of the tests/treatments that I DID NOT APPROVE OF. Even at CHECKOUT I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THE EXTRA SERVICE CHARGE BECAUSE I'M USING A CARD AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN LET ME SAY "YES OR NO." How are you going to give me options when you've taken my card and swiped it? You're in a serious intense/environment that involves our pets lives. Never coming here again. Get it together.

I would highly recommend this veterinary clinic and Dr. Dove. I have brought my German Shorthaired Pointer Tucker in twice now for semen collections and both times with excellent results. Dr. Dove is very knowledgeable and friendly. The clinic staff are very flexible and were available at short notice on a weekend for a collection which was much appreciated. The reception area has been remodeled and looks great. Their semen evaluation reports are much more comprehensive than previous repro vets I've used. Five stars for this great veterinary clinic.

Worked there as a licensed vet tech (equivalent of an R.N) and he was irresponsibe. Boards animals despite not having runs for dogs so they all stay in one small room. when i was there ALL animals were in the same room. Old run down house (on the inside). Might have re-done the clinic so that sick animals stayed upstairs, but the boarding area is all in that one room (vs. cat area, dog area, run area)

I have been going to this clinic for over three years and they have never been on time with any of my appointments. I waited almost an hour today for my appointment I made a while ago. The doctors are nice but the inside almost always smells foul.

Our dog is dead. May 12, 2022, he stopped eating and threw up twice. I called around for a vet but most were booked. I brought him to Companion on May 14 at around noon, despite having a bad experience there previously. The vet said it was probably just a digestive upset but I asked for him to receive fluids due to the vomiting and run full blood work. The vet suggested an anti-nausea shot which I readily agreed to. I was standing right there when he looked at the results of the blood tests and said, "The good news is, his blood work looks good." I was relieved. The front desk at Companion of Gainesville was bizarre and disorganized with the front desk person arguing with a tech over not wanting to have to take care of the front desk. She also argued with the doctor about letting someone come inside. I thought she left to get my bill but, instead, she left to go get herself a snack as I was standing there waiting to check out with my dying dog. Despite no one else being in line, it took so long to check out that he eventually peed on their rug because he had been given fluids. I apologized, but I'm very glad he did it in hindsight because what eventually happened to him was horrific and inexcusable. I took him outside and he threw up and had diarrhea. I left them a stool sample. On Monday, I took him to an emergency vet because, despite trying every bland diet and anti-nausea meds, he was not eating at all now and had not had a bowel movement since Saturday. They asked about blood work from Companion and I told them they said it was fine. I even called Companion and went back there to pick up the anti-nausea meds and they did not say a word about the results. Since Companion said the blood work was fine, the new vet said it must be gastrointestinal and prescribed an antibiotic. The next day, our sweet boy was worse and I took him back to the emergency vet. They said I had to leave him there. They called Companion for the blood results just to be sure. When they got them, they said that the results were not fine at all and clearly showed that he was in renal failure. I was stunned. Despite my best efforts, due to Companion's negligence, we were unaware that our sweet, loving dog was suffering from renal failure and had continued to suffer with it without treatment all day and night Saturday, all day and night Sunday, all day and night Monday, and most of the day Tuesday. The vet said it would be tough to even get him through the night. They also did an x ray and said that he possibly had pneumonia from aspirating during vomiting and there was something wrong with his heart. One side looked very shadowing on x-ray. More on that later. At this point, he had eaten almost nothing for 6 days, his blood pressure was very low and he could barely stand. His kidneys were irreparably damaged. After talking to the vet at the emergency hospital, we made the very tough choice to put our poor boy to sleep. This should not have happened! He was not sick before this and had been running and playing just before he got sick despite his being almost 14. This was likely an acute event from something he ate. Had he been diagnosed by Companion, early on Saturday when the blood tests were done, he could possibly have been saved and had months to years to live and play and bring everyone joy. The previous year, he had a heartworm and lyme test. Companion did not tell us there was any problem until months later when we called for an exam. I was angry and asked to have him retested. We paid for a better, more expensive test to be done by an outside lab but Companion did not draw enough blood for it to be done properly. They insisted the new test was not positive for microfilaria, so he was heart worm free. We assumed the previous test result must have been a mix up with some other dog. I planned to have him retested again the next time he was at a new vet just to be sure. Now I am wondering if he did really have heartworm and that is what the other vet saw on the x-ray of his heart. If so, then our incredible, sweet dog suffere

We've been using Companion for a couple of years now. Cannot believe the clinic still has not opened back up after covid. Both my husband and I have been kept waiting in the parking lot for long stretches while they carried out their disorganized care routine during the pandemic. Appointments take weeks and even then they don't honor your time. And if Companion wants to specialize in dog breeding as seems to be the case, stop taking appointments for other pets! It's doing us a disservice. I have a senior cat with behavioral issues but, covid or no covid, I wouldn't expect Companion to be able to help. My other kitty needs her shots, but who wants to swelter in a 95 degree parking lot waiting for them to get their act together? Don't bother with Companion right now.

I have been going to this practice since 2005. Dr. Dove is one of the finest vets I have had the privilege to work with. He has taught me so much over the years. He is so smart not only with dogs but with other creatures as well. I often see a squawking parrot in the waiting room. As you read through these older reviews, I can see that people were caught up in some of the changes that this practice went through. Nothing ever stays the same. The building has been renovated, outside and inside. The practice now has a wonderful new partner and Therio, Dr Kunze. She has also been great to work with. This is just an honest veterinary clinic. Everyone there works hard. Word to the wise, with Covid and the incredible run in puppies in 2020, they are busier than ever.

Dr Dove is a smart and talented vet. However, the office front desk lady that we saw the last time was rude and high strung. The Dr is mostly doing invitro fertilizations and deliveries for breeders now. That is his specialty even though he is a great reg vet also. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get the level of careful medical attention from years ago for your pet since it is so busy with the other reproductive breeder items. Forget about getting a hold of the Dr after the actual appt like he used to be available back in the old days.

Great vet but office accounting is horrible. You get a bill and pay in full and next time you go they say they billed you wrong and you owe more. Vet is wonderful but can never get an appointment for regular visits or issues because vet has become so well known for reproductive, basically only breeders get appointments. I keep being directed to emergency hospital for minor issues because they are booked for months. Even when I finally have an appointment, I get canceled for an emergency c section etc. Thry should just tell everyone that they only want breeder business.

I love this vet so much!! It's the first vet I've been to (and I've been to a LOT!) who absolutely truly cares about you and your pets. Not only are they very knowledgeable and true experts in their field, they are also considerate, thoughtful and kind. The office staff and techs are also amazing and I can't say enough good things about them too! I feel so fortunate to have found Companion Animal Clinic of Gainesville!!

I see Dr Natalia Kunze at Companion Animal. As a show breeder of miniature longhaired dachshunds, I find her expertise in canine reproduction to be second to none. She has timed expensive frozen semen breedings for me with great success, delivered puppies via C-section with skill and kindness, and takes care of puppies with kindness, making their visits to the "doctor" pleasant. I just recently had a puppy in serious distress and she quickly assessed his condition and referred us to exactly the right intensive care facility and that saved his life. I never feel rushed and she takes a personal interest in my dogs. Being a show breeder and owner-handler herself gives her a special perspective that I can't find in other practices.
