Great little course with good challenges ! Whoever the groundskeeper is knows his stuff the grass is in awesome shape. Very underwhelming when u arrive but a nice course I'd def play again. Minus 1 star because they have temporary greens and no real clubhouse currently because they are redoing them

Just moved to the area. I was checking things out for family outings. From what I see, it looks like they turned farm land into a golf course. Nothing special.

This course has SO much potential! We were vacationing at Lake Gaston and decided to try the course. The drive in was really nice with all of the crepe myrtles blooming. It was obvious that they are actively renovating the course and the clubhouse and everyone we encountered was very nice. The layout of the course was really interesting with the cart paths winding in and out of densely forested areas. This was welcome on a hot July day, as the breeze and shade helped us keep cool. The course itself needs a lot of TLC. The greens were in abysmal condition, for the most part, and the paved cart paths were considerably damaged by both tree roots and water. With the amount of rain we've experienced this year, we weren't surprised to see wash-outs and piles (waves) of pine needles and other debris deposited on fairways; however, the fairways were also nearly all unmowed and the tee boxes were devoid of grass of any kind. The length of the course is shorter than we are used to, so I played the white tees and my husband played the blues. We are hopeful that the course will be in better condition the next time we visit!

My sister and I planned to play 9 holes at 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday. While the website lacked much information (e.g., rates, hours of operation), it had some great descriptions on how to approach each hole and a lovely course map showing a driving range, so I was hopeful. We arrived well ahead of our tee time so we could warm up. The receptionists (2 cute little old ladies) told us there was no driving range but that we could go off the back 9 right away if we wanted an early start. This is a very rustic course with some potential - woods, hills, ponds, creeks. It is not well maintained - the tee areas (mostly grassless) were hard enough at times a hammer might have helped getting tees into the ground, the fairways had many areas of hardpan dirt, the greens were heavy and pockmarked. After playing the 10th hole we saw a tee area immediately next to the 10th green but it looked like a long dog-leg to the right while the scorecard showed it to be a short straight hole. After teeing off, we learned from a groundskeeper that we were on the 18th hole and that the 11th was to be found by winding our way around a few other holes. A little signage would have been helpful (of note, we saw many other signs at other holes, so this was an aberration). The course has some lovely terrain and many natural areas. It has potential, but needs some love.
Addition-my sister and I went back on Tuesday morning. We had tried to call for a tee time on Monday afternoon, but there was no answer on the phone and no voice mail. We arrived to learn that the course had closed Monday after 2 pm and was going to close again. Would have been nice to have a message on their phone. Anyway, we played the front 9. These holes were better maintained than the back 9, but still need attention, especially the greens. Two of the holes, a par 3 and a par 4, require tee shots over a GORGEOUS natural area, although the par 4 tee shot is blind from the forward teeing areas.

Really like this golf course. The people working are very nice. Sarge is great. Course plays well. #4 is fun. I recommend it.

Not sure how this has a 4 star rating. Hands down, one of the worst maintained courses I have ever played. Tee boxes were mostly sand, hardly any grass to be found. I understand that there's seasonly challenges to maintaining a course, but this is beyond that.

I've played this course the past couple of years when we visited Lake Gaston, and usually it's in decent shape. I'm not sure what's happened this year, but I won't be back. Played on July 1st, 2024 and it was pretty terrible. Grass in fairways was long, large sections with no grass, nothing but dirt on many tee boxes, and many greens in poor shape.

A really nice course with challenging and easier holes. Friendly staff. T times usually available on weekdays without reservations.

Second time playing. Would play again. Forgiving course, interesting shots, and Searg is a gem.

Great country course. I’ve walked it several times this last month. Pretty open fairways. Kind of long around Back 9 but still a nice course for the money 6/5/2023

Called to check availability of getting on course. Was not told that the front 9/back 9 would be alternately closed throughout the week. Showed up and had to play the back 9 twice. Cost $30 w/cart. Greens have sand on them and they are not in great shape. Tee boxes are in bad condition. Cart paths, where they exist, are pretty rough from all the tree roots. No decent food options in the area. Won't be back.
