Beth Emeth is a warm & welcoming community that lives its values. Services are led by a combination of the rabbi and a rotating group of volunteers who serve as cantor. There are regularly scheduled services for preschoolers on Saturday mornings. Friday night services are filled with music and are much shorter than Saturday. The congregation also boasts a full day preschool during the week.

Beth Emeth has been our second home for the past 13 years. All the leadership that we have encountered have been warm and welcoming. Our children's special needs were met from preschool all the way through High School including our award winning youth group. For example, to ease my daughter's anxiety about studying for her Bat Mitzvah, they started her learnng early to give her extra time to practice. Services are engaging and all are made to feel welcome. Children are often brought up to the bima to join in leading services so that they are more comfortable when they have their Bar or Bar Mitzvah. I highly recommend Beth Emeth.

The CBE community has been wonderful to my family. The Rabbi and religious school leadership in particular have been very welcoming and helpful. My son had had a very positive experience with the religious school. I would highly recommend this congregation to anyone.

CBE is a warm, welcoming congregation. It was my 2nd home for more than 20 years when I lived in VA. It was so welcoming and friendly that my husband decided to convert after 17 years of marriage! It has a bustling preschool, an inclusive religious school and plenty of adult learning. They have a lovely social hall for all of your simchas. The staff, lay leadership and congregation are all available to help you navigate your way into Jewish living. Small congregation feel with large congregation amenities. I miss you all!

We have been members of Beth Emeth for 11 years. My daughters attended religious school and Chai School here, had bat mitzvahs here, and were confirmed here. The rabbi, religious school director, special needs director, and teachers provided wonderful opportunities and support to our family both while my girls were students and since then.

The religious school teachers are in the dark ages when it comes to awareness of bullying. They actually told my child, "well, you should have more self-respect and then maybe other kids will treat you better" and "kids are just rude sometimes" when he was targeted. When we took this up with the director of the religious school, the education director, and even the rabbi, they simply could not understand how damaging bullying is to children. They focused their "zero-tolerance policy" on the one time my child physically defended himself and his sister after years of verbal taunts and physical attacks (tripping, shoving, pushing... always when the teacher's back was turned). As a result, the synagogue became the bully to my whole family. Awful. Also, the rabbi is uninspiring. She isn't much of a leader and certainly isn't a person I would trust in times of personal crisis or grief. She does read stories to the preschoolers adequately, but my kids say she yells at the children in religious school. When she knew my son was hospitalized for depression with suicidal ideation, she never asked me how he was doing. At one point she replied to me with an email that said “I see from your Facebook post that you are upset that no one has responded to you. Now I am responding.” That was all! No sympathy, no encouragement, no wisdom... nothing. My youngest son loved going to preschool there when he was 2-4, and my entire family loved being part of the community when Rabbi Steve was there. Unfortunately since changes in leadership have impacted CBE, getting my son to go to religious school is like pulling teeth (largely because of the current rabbi yelling at the class.)They are very concerned with collection of annual membership dues. This year High holiday tickets were only sent to families if they pay their dues before a certain date. Lots of emphasis on fund raising. Volunteering time or being an active member isn't nearly as valued as checks. We loved this community when we joined in 2009. It is a shame it has gotten so bad.

I read about the bullying that was alleged to have happened in the religious school and how the alleged victim was expelled. Moreover, I read that the congregation appears to have expelled the family because they couldn’t afford the dues, among other reasons. I also learned that one of the alleged bullies had a mother who was on the board of the congregation. In my opinion, this represents corruption and is against Jewish principles of kindness, charity, and fairness.

This is our son's first year at this excellent school (BEECC) and I really can't speak highly enough about it! His teachers, Theresa and Beth, are so loving and knowledgable about this age group. They do a lot of art, music, and movement in addition to free-play and they get outside as often as possible. There are also rotating specialist teachers, classes are never overfull and always well-staffed. I've met some wonderful friends in the fellow parents and many of us hang out on the playground together after school hours. While there is some Jewish education speckled in, you don't need to be Jewish to attend and the families there now come from all different backgrounds. We are so lucky to have found this school and community!

So glad we found CBE when we moved to Northern Virginia 3 years ago. My family appreciates the warm community, inspiring Rabbi, and the huge amount of family-friendly programming. We love the outstanding preschool, award-winning youth group, and terrific learning opportunities for all ages. We had excellent experiences making 2 Bar/Bat Mitzvahs here. If you're looking for a synagogue or temple in Northern Virginia, this place is the best.

My oldest son graduated the preschool at CBE two years ago and I still have two children attending the preschool. Last year we joined the congregation We felt welcomed and on several occasions one of a more senior members would reach out and invite us to join events and activities.
