DO NOT DONATE AT THIS LOCATION. Although it appears convenient because of their timings and quick lane drop off, I had a very uncomfortable interaction here with an employee this past Saturday when donating through their express lane drop off. I politely asked if I could leave my donations with all the other items that were outside and a passive aggressive employee in a condescending tone said “Of course you can, don’t you see all the other donations and the sign?” She assumed that I didn’t read the sign but the reason I was asking was because some items may have to go somewhere else so I just wanted to be helpful or put them in the pile they belong. She grew very angry and upset because I asked a simple question. It was very hot outside and I thought maybe the heat was getting to her so I was even going to buy her a cold drink. I thought no worries, “maybe she is just having a bad day?”. But then she continued to engage saying extremely rude things under her breath about me because I asked a simple question (I didn’t respond to any of her comments other than saying to please make sure she stays hydrated because of the temperature) and then she physically got closer to my car and again in a very polite manner, I said “ma’am, I was just asking for clarification”. She continued to be extremely rude, and then claimed maybe she was doing something wrong or that I was “treating” her this way because she was old, but I didn’t say or do anything other than ask a simple question in a very polite manner. She was trying to make it seem like she was a victim. At no point was I ever rude or impatient (the extra opposite). I have an Asian background and it is ingrained in us to treat people kindly, especially elderly strangers. It may have been racially motivated because I do look ethnic and I have had those experiences before (for the record: she did not comment on my appearance). She also asked if I needed a receipt and I declined because I didn’t want to interact any further and I also had a minor with me in the passenger seat. For the sake of his safety, I wanted to leave. My dad passed away earlier this year (4 months ago) and my mom wanted to donate his car to Goodwill so I made a few inquiries. I am so glad that we did not end up doing that. I regret leaving the donations here because some of those items belonged to him and I would’ve been happier taking them somewhere else, but I had already put them in the donation pile so I didn’t want more trouble or to be accused of doing something like theft if I took them back. The interaction left me upset the entire day, especially because of my father. I tried to call the store a few times to talk to them about it (donations are made at a different address, but connected to the store), but no one picked up. I really do not like to leave bad reviews but in this situation, I felt like I had no other option. If you do have donations to make, I would recommend The Closet or Faith thrift store in Herndon, Virginia. No amount of convenience will ever allow me to come back here again, which is a shame because I donate regularly and it’s always things that are gently used because if I wouldn’t use something myself, I wouldn’t donate it.
Also, there is no need for management to respond to this post. This is my personal experience but I recommend employee training and having proper workplace accommodations to avoid employees becoming irate on polite people simply trying to do a kind gesture or asking a question. Employees shouldn’t be taking out their anger on people trying to do things out of the kindness of their hearts.

The hours of operation are wrong and the address for donations is different. More of an Apple Maps issue than the store’s fault.

One register open while the line stretched back to dinnerware. I was just in line for over 30 minutes. The Manager needs to be in a register during busy periods, not just coming up for customer issues. People buying 40 pieces of clothing need a different line than those buying a few larger goods. Cross training employees to fill in shortages would be very helpful. I have 33 years of organizational management experience, they could easily do more in the new normal which is perpetually short staffed.

shopping here is an extremely loud and stressful experience. the store is very busy and there are usually children running around making a mess. large inventory but shelves are often cluttered and difficult to sort due to overcrowding. prices are a mixed bag. cashiers are painfully slow and the checkout line can be appalling. at least some employees are very friendly!cashier would not sell my friend an inflatable football because some other hooligan took the price sticker off. They said it needed to be "repriced" and took it to the back room. I understand the policy for furniture or collectible items but its a darn football we wanted to go toss in the park.

I have been shopping a few times a year at this Herndon Goodwill for about three years. When I started going three years ago, I found a fair number of mid-level brands (and an occasional higher level brand) in very good condition. And items were priced fairly. About two years ago, I started to notice that the quantity of the inventory on the floor had decreased. I was more shocked to discover that so many items (not just at this Goodwill but at many others in the area) never make it to the floor and wind up in the trash because there's such a surplus of items. I would imagine glassware is being destroyed simply because the likelihood that many/most would break in route to the nearest outlet (which are all located in Baltimore and SoVA which at least a 90 minute drive from the DC Metropolitan area) is fairly high. I HAVE A SOLUTION! Goodwill corporate management - If you are reading this, PLEASE open an OUTLET store in the DC area. There are FOUR outlet stores just in Denver alone! This way EVERYONE benefits. GW gets: -to sell these items locally -to utilize the sale of these items to fund the local programs here in DC area -to keep items out of our overflowing landfills Your customers get: -a chance to purchase surplus local merchandise -feel good supporting local GW programs -an opportunity to shop at THE BINS here -help individuals who don't have the means to get merchandise at a great price point -create more job opportunities for the area The Bed Bath & Beyond in Vienna, VA on Route 123 shut down some time ago. The building is still empty. It would be a PERFECT location for an outlet. And it has a nice sized parking lot. Please consider this. We are the only major metropolitan area in the country without one!

Christmas Eve 2023, Herndon Goodwill. I was denied to buy a science book and a pair of winter boots for my 5 year old daughter. They said no tag and were too lazy to tag it. Just shameful, Badwill. Simply shameful.

Do not come here, after donating 5 bags of clothes to them, I went inside to purchase toys for my children & the staff was super rude! One of the employees called me son crazy (he is only 3 years old) my son did nothing but run to me. If you don’t like children do not sell toys I was in the store for less than 5 minutes total and was in line to buy the toy when this happened. A guy who claimed to be the manager made matters worse instead of talking to his employee and correcting her. I will not donate here again, plus the obvious smell of urine in the store is disgusting.

Was there yesterday to look for some fall sweaters etc. The whole place smelled like urine, especially back near the furniture. A good portion of the clothes were clearly very dirty as well. Disappointed as I've been here many times before and have never experienced this. The smell was so bad I couldn't stay for more than a few minutes.

I purchased a large sheet yesterday only to discover very clear and obvious bed bug stains when I unfolded it. It might not have been intentional, but the stains could not be seen on the outer areas and I didn’t unfold the entire thing. Now I wish I had. I didn’t think they would put something like this on the sales floor. I threw it away- I’m not risking anything by trying to get a refund for it. I won’t be returning here.
