We booked this hotel for a stop after dropping our son off at college. It sounded and looked online like an historic spa built around hot springs. Well it is historic, but some parts like the room are renovated, but many areas like hallways are dated. We arrived and our room was not ready so we had lunch at the family pool area which is a mob scene of children, lazy river, slides, and self service, not what I think of when I think luxury. It took an hour for our lunch to be prepared at a takeout window. Our room was then ready, and although it was renovated at some point, all the furniture and windows and air conditioning unit are old and our view was of a gross rooftop. At this point we decided to try the adult pool at the spa, but we were told it would be $150 extra per day per couple to sit here! I am ready to curse right now, because I have been to hundreds of fancy hotels, and never once could not sit at a pool that is on the premises, advertised about with pictures online, and then right in front of your nose next to the gym. I should also add, that one needs access to this adult spa area to actually go into the Hot springs! I was so offended that coming here with no children, my only option was to sit in the middle of their Splash Park for kids. Certainly those rides for kids cost more to operate then the natural hot spring tub at the spa! Why not charge $120 extra to use that pool? Why not do what every other hotel does which is charge more per room, and not make each amenity an ala carte upcharge! We had made a reservation at a nearby restaurant for a fancy dinner but were tired and asked the hotel desk where to eat besides the massive dining room. Despite over $500 a night price, there is no room service. The desk clerk suggested Wooleys, so we canceled our rese, went to Wooleys where they informed us they were only serving take out pizza! We went to town and had nachos as all the restaurants were now booked, yah a ruined 30 year anniversary oh well. That was the final straw, I asked if we could check out a day early with no charge and they said yes, not so much to be nice, but the hotel was fully booked and they could easily resell a weekend night. I highly recommend going here with kids, not as a couple, or better yet, not at all. I say this last part because I think most everyone will be disappointed here given the false advertising. Hotel claims to have 7 restaurants, but really the only option is the dining hall. Included in the 7 is the coffee counter in the lobby, the pool snack bar, Wooleys which was only takeout…and god even knows where the other 3 are!!!

I first visited the Omni Homestead Resort in 2017 for our anniversary. Since then, we've been back twice, each time bring a larger contingent of relatives. The most historic of historic resorts, the Homestead is perfectly nestled in the picturesque Virginia mountains and boasts spectacular views a minutes drive in any direction. The warmth and professionalism of the hotel and restaurant staffs are second to none. It's like being hosted by family. There are fun activities for the entire family. Mini-golf, archery, lazy river, and the swimming pool are favorites of the younger kids, while adults enjoyed the stunning gorge hike, golf, gym and world class spa. This destination is now a highly anticipated annual getaway for my extended family and friends.

The Omni Homestead – July 28th – 29th, 2021 I remember my first experience with The Homestead in 2017, driving on the narrow curvy mountain roads then making the turn into the front entrance and seeing a grand hotel before me. It seems almost magical for this large historic hotel to be nestled perfectly into the mountains. A walk through the lobby is a step back in time. Since 2017, I have visited a few more times and I always enjoy the moment of driving up the main entrance. For this visit, I brought my Mom and Godmother along. Neither of them had stayed at the Homestead and it was a nice one-night girl’s getaway. Being familiar with the Homestead, I knew not to expect much from the restaurants, so I made a reservation at Les Cochons d’Or which is a short walk across the street from the backside of the hotel. With dinner reservations at 6pm, the 4pm check-in would have allowed plenty of time to settle in and get ready. Only 1 of our 2 rooms was ready at 4pm, so all three of us waited in one room. The front desk did not offer to store out luggage so we brought it with us into the lounge of the Jefferson and then put it all in the one room which was prepared on time. The room that was ready had plenty of space and a balcony so it wasn’t bad. However, we didn’t get them into their room into right around 5:30pm which then created a rush to get to out dinner reservation on time. I understand that they are short staffed on housekeeping and that caused a delay. I understand the hotel industry struggles with Covid and am sympathic to such. What I do not understand is paying a room price that suggest the hotel is capable of executing proper service and finding out that it is falling way short of that expectation. I booked a Garden View Room with double beds (Room #1412) and a Premier King Room with View (Room #1901), both for 1 night. The total cost is around $1600. At this price, my rooms should be ready on-time as I know the hotel will fully expect me to check-out at the 11am time. For the inconvenience, I was provided drink tickets. While the gesture is appreciated, it fell short. Having stayed here before, as mentioned, I knew what to expect regarding the rooms. They are outdated, worn and in need of a refresh. The Omni Hotel group is not investing in the property and the best hope for this hotel would be for ownership change. It needs a lot of TLC. Having visited several Historic Hotels across the country, the potential for The Homestead is outstanding and one can only hope that a new owner will come along and invest in its future. Room #1901 is a spacious king room with a balcony overlooking the front lawn with side views of the golf course and swimming pool. It offers a spacious walk-in closet, sofa, desk and chairs, a separate shower and tub. There is very limited bathroom space to put your personal items. The bed is not uncomfortable but I wouldn’t brag about it either. Linens, fabrics and curtains are worn. The carpet is in need of replacing. The balcony needs to be cleaned up and painted. Patio furniture cushions shows a lot of wear. There is an in-room Keurig, which I love but no tea options, only coffee. Highly disappointing as it would have been nice to enjoy a cup of herbal tea at bedtime. The toilet is not properly secured to the flooring, so it will make a loud thud each time it is used. I’m guessing this is a simple maintenance fix that has been overlooked. The temperature in the shower is the one thing I felt compelled to complain about. Regardless of how you turn the knobs, there are only two choices for water; freezing cold or scalding hot. There is no in-between, no matter how hard I tried. It was miserable. I am not a person who takes baths, especially in a hotel, so I had to suffer through the worst shower I’ve ever had in a hotel. Overall, the room was highly overpriced for what it delivered. Room #1412 is a cozy garden view room with two double beds. The closet is big enough for one person but not two. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo. The bathroom offers little space for personal items. Adding shelv

This is a beautiful and historic property set in the mountains of SW Virginia. The outside grounds were well kept and provided for a relaxing setting. The hotel admittedly is dated so set your expectations, but one of the wings was closed for renovations so it would appear they're working on updating the property's rooms. There were countless activities to stay busy - we never left the property in 3 or so days other than to walk to dinner on Main Street. A few things I took issue with were: - Food options were good, not great. - I was surprised that it cost money for the putt-putt - this should simply be included. It was like 15.00 each and not much to look at. - Everything closed early. The water slide and lazy river all closed 5pm ish as did putt-putt. - Golf course is nice, but a tad over-priced IMO. Most are though. - It took forever to check in and a bit long for lunch and a dinner - this I suspect has to do with being short-staffed due to Covid. So hopefully, once people realize they need to actually work for a living, they'll be able to properly staff. I'd maybe consider going back in future - it is a nice place away from typical hustle and bustle at many vacation spots. It just needs a tad bit more TLC.

I am shocked at the few negative reviews of this beautiful, historic hotel. It is breathtaking. Sitting on the front porch or in the grand hallway is so relaxing. Allegheny Springs is fun and enjoyable for all ages. I’ve only done day passes to the spa to try the hot springs. All of the activities are great. We’ve always been given a beautiful room with the most comfy beds. We love it so much that we are purchasing a home within walking distance. Don’t miss this gem.
