Very nice staff. Seem to have everything one needs for their pets. They also have a grooming service; a lovely cat hotel for adoption of cats; and other pets for purchase ( hamsters, etc...). Prices are fair and they are very knowledgeable.

I have never written a negative review; however, I feel the need to let the public know what to expect with their dog training. I am writing to request your immediate intervention in this matter. I hope that your involvement will expedite the resolution process and ensure that my concerns are addressed promptly. I have a strong desire to see this situation resolved and I believe with your oversight, we can achieve this goal. After researching my options, I chose Petco's Adult Essential Complete Package, which spans a total of 12 weeks. My goal was for Hamilton to achieve the Good Citizen's Certification and eventually become certified as a Comfort Caring Canine Therapy Dog, allowing him to visit Nursing Homes and Hospitals. However, my experience during the initial 6 weeks of training has left me frustrated and dissatisfied. The issues began when the initial trainer was dismissed, and a trainer named Christine from the Petco Sterling, VA location took over. At the second week of training, Christine informed me that she could no longer conduct sessions at the Leesburg Petco, suggesting we finish the training at the Sterling Petco. This arrangement was inconvenient for both me and another dog owner participating in the program. By the 3rd week, Christine informed me that Petco would no longer permit her to work at the Leesburg Petco. Despite the inconvenience, I agreed to drive 45 minutes from my home to the Sterling Petco. However, my frustration reached its peak during the 6th and final training class. At 3:22 PM, Christine texted me to say she had to leave early, suggesting that we reschedule the class. After making a 45-minute drive during rush-hour traffic and waiting for 8 minutes, Christine informed me that her manager required her presence on the floor, leaving the training incomplete. This disregard for my time and Petco's advertised commitment to consumers was deeply disappointing. I requested to speak with the manager, and the assistant manager provided me with a phone number, assuring me that the Leesburg store manager would return my call the next day, Friday, September 15, 2023. Regrettably, I did not receive a callback as promised. While I acknowledge that Christine displayed compassion toward our pets, her lack of dedication to fulfilling her training commitments became evident in numerous ways. There was a lack of clarity regarding the requirements to pass the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test, which was advertised as part of the Complete Package but later revealed to be an additional $15.00 fee. Furthermore, during the training, only a portion of the CGC test items were covered, leaving essential components unaddressed. To provide some context, my motivation for enrolling Hamilton in Petco's training program was inspired by a heartfelt encounter I had during my husband's open-heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. A volunteer and their dog provided immense comfort and support during this stressful time, prompting me to aim for Hamilton to become a Service Dog and bring the same love and compassion to my community. For the past two weeks, I have been trying to get in touch with Liz at the Leesburg, Virginia Petco location regarding my concerns, but I have not received any callbacks or assistance. Furthermore, on September 14, I had a conversation with both Christine, your dog trainer, and the assistant manager at the Sterling location. This was the day when my scheduled training session was unexpectedly canceled. I also reached out to their Customer Service Department both online and by phone, providing them with a detailed account of the situation. Despite my efforts and the numerous individuals who are aware of the issue, I have yet to see any progress towards resolving it.

If I had to describe this store in one word, it would be FILTHY.I almost feel icky that I walked in there with open-toed sandals. Am I going to get diseased? Probably. Either way, the floor hasn't even caught a WHIFF of a mop in what seems like years. The carpet by the door is COVERED in dog hair and dirt. Might as well be a shag carpet with how much hair is on it.What's worse is that the animals are kept in filthy conditions as well. It's clear that this store gives zero damns about the living breathing creatures it's peddling. The rodents? Have dirty bedding. The ferret? Is alone. The fish? Dirty tanks. The birds? Dirty cages. I won't even open my mouth about the poor bettas. Jesus on a bicycle, at least change their water sometimes, would ya??On top of all this, there was a MOUNTAIN of boxes just... piled in the middle of the aquarium aisle this evening. So much for wanting to browse tanks; the impenetrable wall of cardboard and misery says 'no'.This is most likely the worst Petco I have ever had the displeasure of entering.

Zero stars is more what these heathens deserve . The grooming is awful. I got forced into the vital care plan so that I could get a percentage off grooming. Where the groomer didn't properly clean my dogs ears out causing a very bad ear infection that has been very difficult to clear up. I had to cancel the appointment because the vet said her ears can not get wet. Then I bring my pup in for when the groomer suggested and the woman comes out and man handles my dog after the poor pup has been at the vet a number of times for the ear infection that the groomer caused. The poor thing was terrified and shaking the whole time. They refused to take her and told us to get the vet to do it. I call the vet and funny enough the vet has never heard of referring people to the vet for a hair cut. This place sucks. If you love your pet, never take your pet here. They are horrible. The place is dirty, and a disgrace. It should be shut down.

NO, not good at all. Our little dog went in for a bath, nails trimmed and gland expression in the rear. She came out kind of traumatized, is the only word I can think of. Not wagging her tail like usual, holding the tail very limply even when walking outside, almost 24 hours later, and this is a very happy, crazy-at-times little terrier mix--and has a tail that always is up and alert and wagging. SOMEthing happened with the groomer (Brittany), who of course says nothing unusual happened. Waiting on the store manager to call me back, but most of all hoping that this little six-year-old girl of ours will go back to normal. Nothing on or along the tail that seems painful to her, but very obviously not a happy pup. Never has had any sort of negative reaction like this before to gland expressions or anything else. For sure, we won't be going back here.

I called today to make an appointment for my dog to get groomed, and they told me to come in as long as I had his rabies vaccinations with documentation. Which I thought was kind of odd because every other groomer there was a wait list. So when I walked into the store, the first thing I noticed was a big puddle of urine and three employees standing there, talking and doing nothing about it. I went to the groomers area and it was absolutely filthy. My normal veterinarian always recommended that I give my dog a medication to help him calm down when he gets his nails groomed so it could be a pleasurable experience. I told the groomer that he was on that medicine and she said that she would not trim his nails if he was on any kind of medicine besides the grooming room being 90°, which is too hot for any dog or human I could not get out of there, fast enough. Avoid this place at all cost!!! I cannot imagine buying any toys here for my dogs or food or treats.

Horrible place that mistreats their animals. The manager, Liz, is a truly awful person, with no integrity. And is the reason pet stores are not long for this world. Forgetting about the fact that their prices are often 300% more than Amazon for same brands, if you care about animals at all, I wouldn't set foot in this store

Recently started coming regularly to this Petco and have only met the nicest staff (store, grooming, and training). Our dog (lab) has weekly training sessions with Mark. Mark is vey gentle yet firm with our dog. He shares tons of insights with us and our dog has come a long way in only 3 sessions. She is so much better with the basic commands and is better about not jumping on ppl when she meets them. We are relatively new dog owners and we have lots of questions, so we appreciate the helpful staff. Our dog also gets grooming once in a while and it's always been a really positive experience.

I use to spend a lot of money at Petco, but I will never give them another dime. Their return policy is HORRIBLE. You have to return everything, including canned dog food within 30 days. I have a 12 1/2 year old dog who stopped eating and I tried to return her food from March, so around 90 days. It's canned food with a ton of shelf life left. I was told, it's past 30 days so you are just out the $200. Zero empathy. I contacted Chewy to return and they said no problem we hope your dog is ok, etc. and made my life so easy. I had ordered the replacement food through Petco, but will never do that again. All my business will go to Chewy going forward. Petco is not an understanding company, especially with supply chain issues some food needs to be bought in larger quantities when dogs are sick and picky.

Although they didn't have the fish tank I needed, I am giving this review 5 stars because of the employee Christiana. She was so helpful and kind and the reason. I will be going back there. There is a huge selection of fish and they seem to be in really good condition. I feel the employees care about the animals a lot.

Had a family visitor who needed a dog sweater on short notice and Petco came through for us! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Everyone we encountered clearly loves pets and understands how to deal with a variety of pet owners. They had a great selection of doggie sweaters and a good variety of affordable dog beds. A refreshing change from on-line shopping. We bought both a dog bed and a dog sweater to accommodate the need of our holiday visitor!

This in regards to there grooming. Had an appointment scheduled whole week ago for today at 9AM. There system sent email and reminder. Now got up early and was told it was not on schedule and no reason why. Everything I attempted to schedule at this location something goes wrong. Terrible and unprofessional they didn't even apologize nothing not even book another appointment. Will call corporate in morning and file complaint.

Probably the least helpful pet store you'll visit. I bought a fish tank and a goldfish for my daughter for her birthday here. It's been two years, the fish died, our house sitter over fed it, I go to buy another one. I'm asked 4-5 questions about what I'm doing with the fish by the teenager cleaning the cages, he then proceeds to tell me I cannot buy a goldfish. "What? Well the size of your tank is not big enough. But I bought it here, you sold it to me with a goldfish, same time. I'm sorry we can't sell you a goldfish. Where is the manager? She's on vacation."The place is a dump, dead fish floating in 30% of the tanks already. Proceed to PETSMART 3 mins away and buy said goldfish, no interrogation. Can I have the last 15 minutes of my life back PETCO? Joke.

So much better than the sterling store. This staff actually helps you.
