From Driveway Ornament to Daily Driver—Thanks to AHP
I bought my 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 brand new in November ’88, then spent the late ’90s turning it into a supercharged street machine with 467 WHP. It was fast, had a deep muscular tone, and a refined suspension setup that made it a blast to drive—until life happened and it sat in my driveway for 15 years, collecting dust and sympathy from passing gearheads.
When I finally decided to bring it back to life, I got some initial work done elsewhere, but the car still had a bad case of “starts when it feels like it” and “drives like it’s haunted.” That’s when I called in the pros at American High Performance.
They nailed the no-start issue right away and tackled a bunch of other lingering problems. After a few months of rediscovering the joy of boost, I realized I wasn’t ready to part ways with the Mustang. So I brought it back to AHP to chase down the remaining gremlins.
Most impressively, they solved a long-running, highly intermittent ignition cutout that had been driving me nuts for years. It was the kind of issue that only showed up when you weren’t looking for it—and never when you had someone watching. AHP stuck with it, tracked it down, and fixed it for good.
Now the car is so dialed in, I drive it to the gym, the store, and anywhere else I can justify taking the long way. It’s not just a Cars & Coffee queen anymore—it’s my go-to for fun and errands alike.
American High Performance didn’t just fix my Mustang—they gave me back the confidence to enjoy it. They stand behind their work, don’t shy away from complex issues, and treat your car like it’s worth the effort. Five stars, no hesitation.

Was quoted $940 + shop supplies etc. to install a shifter, which is one hour job. So they charge ~$1,000 per hour 😳 The shop advertise that they are not the cheapest, they are absolutely right about that. RIPOFF!
There are reputable shops that i recommend-Habibi Sauce that is literally seconds away from this shop and, of course, Excessive Motorsports in Manassas.

They did a great job replacing the exhaust manifold in my F-150 and tuning my Mustang so that it passes Northern, Virginia emissions with headers and other modifications.

The guys American high performance are the professionals you want working on your car. My poc was Rick and he is knowledgeable and very transparent with regards to what's going on with my car. I needed a tune and suspension work. I could not be happier with the work done. Man, I HIGHLY recommend this place!

Attempted to get a bumpsteer issue fixed for 3+ months from here with little to no effort. Dropped car off on the date I had an appointment and stayed in a hotel a couple days only to be told it couldn’t go on the lift because there was a miscommunication with the guy next door who needed it for the weekend apparently, ok. Attempted a SECOND time, another hotel stay for a 2 day fix only to be told now the bumpsteer kit could not be found… scheduling me when you don’t know if you have the correct tools to perform the job you say you can do is flat out dishonest to the customer. Was told I’ll get a call when it’s in.. it’s been over 2+ months. Others may have had positive experiences here and that’s great. But for me, I just sensed a huge lack of care and communication.

Rick was awesome… so was everyone else. I got a 2019 Corvette and I had an AWE exhaust installed. Not only did they did the install way sooner than expected but they also let me keep my car they for a few days while I was out of town for work. I will definitely be back for all my Corvette needs. The price was very very reasonable. Thanks again guys…. you earned a lifetime customer.

Almost forgot to write this
Took my ‘95 mustang there last year for a misfire issue
They charged me $960 for the diagnosis and 02 sensors
Didn’t even solve the issue, when I reached out and told them about it they didn't even acknowledge the fact they charged me a grand for $40 02 sensors that weren't needed
if they run business like this consistently I’d be shocked

I initially brought my truck in for an oil and transmission leak and Rick and team quickly discovered there to be a bigger issue with the trans which turned into a full replacement. Working with American High Performance was one of the best experiences I've had with a shop. They were communicative throughout the entire process - updating me on any new issues unearthed, providing options and accurate estimates for each repair, and doing so without any pressure to approve/move forward with the repairs. Highly recommend this shop and I will be going back for my next upgrades and maintenance needs. Thanks American High Performance!
