I was hesitant to write this but I feel it is important. Our experience started out great, we took a dog home on a foster to adopt contract that gave us a max of 2 weeks to find out if we wanted to keep her. The dog is great, no regrets there. Before we took her home, we were told that while she had been taken to the vet, the dog she was surrendered with did not have certain issues so they didn't check her for the issues either (fleas and ticks.) If this dog was properly vetted the way they should be on an intake, they would have ran blood tests, but I currently do not believe that was done. When I noticed her tail felt weird and there was something off with her ribs, I called the shelter (still on the foster to adopt) and was told to keep an eye out and let them know. The day that I came in to sign the adoption contract I mentioned these issues and it seemed like an issue that I was worried about this dogs wellbeing before I could legally take her to the vet as my own dog. The first response i got was " we aren't vets," which is valid but this dog was still technically the shelters responsibility. On this same day, Id seen a notice they put out that adoption fees were temporarily $25 and nowhere did it specify who was or wasn't included on the post. When I asked, I was told this dog was excluded because we had the foster to adopt contract.I am not upset about paying almost $200 to adopt a dog, what I am upset about is the fact that this dog was not properly vetted, shown by the fact that my vet quickly caught on that her tail had been recently broken as well as she has Lyme disease. I am upset that they allowed this dog to not only be fostered, but adopted, without having her paperwork or knowing when they were getting it in (for reference, I was a week shy of missing the 30 day mark that Waynesboro gives you to register a dog with the county). They did not even have the paperwork saying she had her most recent rabies vaccine. I was not even told that this dog had warnings on her paperwork, I found out when I was mailed her paperwork since, again, they did not have it at the time I signed the adoption papers.

Doggy Day Out is such a wonderful experience to be able to share with the doggies at the shelter. I will most definitely be back for another day out ? ❤️ And they have a pet pantry for pet owners in need of food, treats, beds, kitty litter, etc.

Drove from Yorktown to adopt Hullabaloo, now "BlueMechums." I arrived, was treated very professionally, and courteously by staff.Left with sense of security in knowing that they had done a superior job in caring for animal and directing me on what to look for and expect. I am completely in love with "Ba Loo" : )

The people that work here are very dedicated. If you're looking for a dog or cat for adoption check them out. Or just send them a check.

We adopted one of our dogs from this rescue. He was not at all the type of dog we were looking for but the staff knew he would be a good fit. The staff really takes the time to get to know the animals in their care, so they can best match them to their forever homes.

It was not very clean. Was smelly and close quarters, very small. Personally, I would not get an animal from this shelter. Big dogs in cages barely able to fit them. ?

This place does amazing things for the animals in this area with very little funding. The people there are truely passionate about helping animals. Can't recommend them enough!!

This animal shelter is the worst my husband and I went there to adopt a Norwegian elkhound name Stannis and we live on a farm ???? with really no other people around and we was going to train him to be a service dog ? because we saw potential in him but they denied us just because they didn't. I wish I could select no star but that is not an option. They are going to cause that dog's death.

Obviously they don’t have control over what animals come there but they took such good care of my amazing dog before I got him, offered foster to adopt (I couldn’t possibly give him back after day 1), and had some miscommunication on adopting day so waved my fee. Great facility and please consider adopting from them!

This is where lost, abused and forgotten fur babies end up. Controlled by Staunton Police Department this Shelter attempts to place these lost souls with REAL FAMILY.They are deeply invasive, somewhat reserved and NEED YOUR TRUST.These fur babies need to NOT COME BACK HERE.Are you READY, for a truly remarkable path to FurFamily.?
