We brought in our dog who was actively hemorrhaging only to be put in a holding room for over 2 hours with multiple attempts asking for a vet to at least look at our dog. There was no place of comfort for our boy...only a cold tile floor. When the vet evaluated our dog, she told us that he needed a blood transfusion, but their supply "was spoken for" by another dog and no other emergency clinic had enough. The vet raced our decision, raced our goodbyes and then immediately took our dog away from us. She banged his outstretched bandaged leg in the doorframe and then again did the same thing getting him back to the restricted area. It was a very painful last glimpse of our beloved dog. We have used this practive in the past for cardiac care, but do NOT recommend it for emergency services. We left feeling that this place was cold & heartless. No one said they were sorry or sympathetic at the front desk either as we paid that final bill. Very disappointed and having continued nightmares of that time.

How are you supposed to be an emergency vet and you have set hours? Do animals only get sick during these hours

I would definitely recommend them, they took my puppy in after being told he had parvo and because they're so great they were able to figure out he didn't and helped me with his after care and answered any questions i had. I appreciate them so much for turning my terrible week into a very much better one. my pup is doing amazing!

This place has the most knowledgeable staff and is always so compassionate! Im so sad they are understaffed and have to turn pets away! I can't recommend this place enough! Amazing place! Please don't take your pets to Virginia vet center in Carytown, they don't care about you or your pet and the place is disgusting! See pics in my review of them!

AWFUL. Understaffed Owner has a huge temper, sticks his finger in your face and yells, literally. Waited 4 hours, finally get the vet to come in, and 30 seconds later she is called out and never came back in. Charged me $460 bucks for an interrupted and 3 minute consult and blood work. Tried to send my 14 yo puggle home with steroids. Took her to the Richmond Animal hospital that day. They said that she has intestinal cancer which has caused ulcers, and steroids would only make it worse. She also has a huge malignant mass. She has three days left to live. When I asked the vet to put his finger down and stop yelling, b/c he scared me, he said, "I AM THE OWNER. I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT"

Very compassionate. Took the time to explain condition and answer questions. Very grateful for their help with an after hours emergency.

Our senior dog was seen by our regular vet for a condition which deteriorated over night, and we chose to take her in to VRCC. Unfortunately her condition was terminal and the vet recommended she be put to sleep. The care and professionalism demonstrated by everyone at VRCC was second to none, and while it was obviously one of the worst nights of our lives, we are tremendously grateful that expert, compassionate care was available to evaluate her and when needed, end her pain. The techs and the vet were VERY quick, very helpful, and extremely kind. They gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye, in private, after making our dog comfortable and we will always be grateful for that. While I hope we never need emergency veterinary care again, I would not hesitate to recommend VRCC.

We took our dog to the ER because he stomach was swollen to the size of a basketball. We were told to get her in asap in case her stomach had flipped. They took x-rays and said she should stay overnight to ensure the issue passed as there was no visible issue. Next day it passed. Sent us home with digestive meds and over a thousand dollars lighter. 2 weeks later we are back the same issue. They x-ray again don't see an issue with flipping but see the swelling suggesting she stay again. I refused I don't have another 1000+ for what you are saying is gas or acid reflux. They removed the gas with a needle got another 500+ sent us home.....2 weeks later we are back. This time they look and say she had signs of liver cancer. They want the Dr to look to confirm. He calls says she is riddled with cancer and he doesn't understand why no one caught it. He will have to see if it was sent out for review. Then says he will have to adjust our estimate. All this BS while also telling us we need to let our girl go immediately as she is in pain. Her entire liver was gone but you didn't see that just the things that continued to cost us! We couldn't even get time to process it due to your negligence.

My kitten had an allergic reaction to a vaccine in the middle of the night. VRCC was helpful and kind the minute I called, setting up her chart and advising me to complete initial paperwork online. It took an hour to get there and my kitten was seen as soon as we arrived. Pricing was clearly explained upfront before the exam! No surprises. The care my cat received was excellent, and the doctor was thorough and answered every question. Front desk staff and technicians were wonderful. I am so grateful.

I was warned before I called them that they have had staffing issues. If you review the reviews on Google, you will fine mine with a one star. The reason they get a one star is because the people who answer the phone are extremely rude. They finally called me back three days after I requested an appointment for "additional information" and I told them I would never spend a single penny with them and went elsewhere.

Great emergency vet. Everybody was totally professional. They explained everything that had to be done and the price was fair for sure.

The employees manning this operation are probably some of the most skilled and capable in the veterinary field. My dog was bitten by a copperhead snake late evening before bed time. The predator was on a side walk when my dog went over to see what this was. The snake felt provoked and struck him in the face. Immediately I sought an emergency care clinic only to find out they were mostly closed, under staffed, had too many at the hospital already etc etc. Finally, this place under review would see him. This place, still using the mask mandate, wouldn't allow me in the door. Apparently the clinic owners are under educated about the viability of wearing a mask but policy there held precedence over my pets care so they took him in for an exam. The vet on duty was very thorough and called me to advise on what she would do. Pain relief, antibiotics, and watching for any other symptoms was the protocol. All sounded good until the boom was lowered with a cost of over $500. This is where the rub comes with me. A cost of this exorbitant amount is simply usury and taking advantage of a dire situation. I guess this clinic must subscribe to the philosophy of never letting a crisis go to waste. This kind of situation happens in every emergency care clinic but nonetheless that doesn't make it morally or ethically acceptable. So that's my complaint, right or wrong, I'm sticking with this assessment and hope others feel the same. BTW my dog Leno is doing just fine under my care which is why at 14 he is quite healthy and will recover quite well on his own.

This hospital has been phenomenal every time I have needed them. Dr Fallin is hilarious and very personable. Dr Kirsch was absolutely wonderful with my friend for an emergency situation.

Had a pretty scary 48 hours with my pup Houdini when he decided that he wanted to try drugs (he is young, and clearly hadn't been through the D.A.R.E program yet) and ate most of a bottle of ibprophen! The absolute angels that are the vets and staff at VRCC - Veterinary Referral & Critical Care took him in, worked their magic and got our boy back to us happy and healthy. All of the staff went above and beyond to keep us informed, and keep our problem child's separation anxiety in check. I hope you never have to use emergency vet services, but if you do, I cannot recommend this practice enough!! ❤

The facility and all staff are wonderful except for the Office Manager in charge of Billing. She's rude, spiteful and definitely needs Supervisory Training because her attitude is very poor. Non helpful, speaks over you and is very rude. Threatened to not waive the Admin Fee today after her staff told me yesterday that they would because of my troubles. How rude! Spite will not get you far in this business. GET MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR HER OR REMOVE HER before you lose more business. Completely disgusted with how I was treated by this Manager. A very poor example of one that's for sure. Train your staff on the do's and don't of billing and also stress to them how important communication and follow up is so you don't cause anymore of your clients major inconveniences that could have been avoided. Service otherwise was phenomenal and I would highly recommend them. BEWARE OF BILLING DEPT!!!
