The Owner's have a real desire to Teach the "Art" of Painting. Their Painting Classes, and Studio Art Supplies are reasonably priced. There are plenty of "Off Street" parking spaces available in their parking lot.

Excellent place to find simply a gorgeous piece of art, or request a custom commission by Mary or Christine, or take classes to enhance your own artistic abilities in oil painting or sketch. Mary and Christine are great artists, instructors, and really just great people! I always enjoy every moment I spend there, and I am so grateful for how they have helped me become a better artist!

I went for the open studio hours. While I was somewhat unannounced, the proprietor was very kind and didn't miss a beat setting up an area for my friend and I. There was light music; an easel, a stool, and a small table for those who needed them; a clean open space to work; and much encouragement! I also purchased a print that I love! There's a painting I have my eye on as well...

This studio is an absolute gem in Northern Virginia. The owners Mary and Christine are excellent artists and truly kind and caring people. They instruct high quality painting and sketch classes to students of all ages and ability levels, both on a weekly basis and in one-off workshops that deep dive into specific subjects. They host a variety of events throughout the year that feature their art as well as the work of other local artists. They also choose local causes in the community (often the preforming arts) to donate a percentage of proceeds to from certain shows as a way to give back. They exemplify their motto of Artists Supporting Artists. If you are looking for simply a gorgeous painting, or artists who takes custom commission requests, or classes to enhance your own artistic abilities, you have found your place at Creative Brush!

Truly fine art and fine instruction. The big boxes are "craft" stores. These folks are degreed professional artists. You learn the science behind the art - why red and blue sometimes make black. Values, chroma, hue. And there always seems to be baked goods in class!

To put it simply, Mary Reilly and Christine Raymond of the Creative Brush are the go to people if you live in the NOVA area and wish to learn how to express yourself artistically. It’s within their cozy studio and under their kind direction which I learned how to master drawing with any medium along with painting. With some of the best teaching I’ve ever experienced, by Christine Raymond, I was able to build a portfolio which lead to my acceptance into the accredited UVA School of Architecture. It was only two short years before this when I came under her direction as a person who wanted to be an architect but felt I had no artistic skill. In her enjoyable classes she was able to draw out (pun intended) skills I didn’t know I had, along with infusing a love of art into me. So, whether your a teen boy looking for someone to draw out an unknown artistic ability (as was myself), a person wanting to master a new hobby, or someone who wishes to become a world famous artist, The Creative Brush is a necessary step for you.

This is a full service studio. There is fine art available on display, as well as custom pieces in progress. Classes are available for all levels, but make no mistake - the instruction is real. Forms, values, chroma, hue... they even teach you to decipher the long codes on paint so you know how to choose quality materials. Choose the peace of Mary's traditional methods class, or something more rambunctious in Christine's palette or plein air classes. They've got it all in good quality. Never touched a brush? This is your studio. Need to expand your existing expertise? This is your studio.
