Carla has been super helpful and makes an effort to be in the know about her customers. Rich is great as well, but I have not seen him in a while. My frustration is with my HRT med. Completely backordered for over a month now. My price keeps on climbing as well. Under $100 for a 3 month supply, now over $170. When I questioned Carla she seemed a bit annoyed with my questioning. Yea sorry, I would like to understand why I can’t get meds and why the price keeps on climbing each time I refill. It is annoying! I can only imagine that Carla and Rich are over worked and under paid for all the customers they take care of. They seem pretty stretched. These pharmaceutical companies and thus Safeway are making a lot of money on these drugs. Please help out your pharmacists and thus your customers and for god’s sake on the drugs like HRT that are not covered by healthcare have a little respect for your consumer. Taking advantage and not being transparent on costs is just wrong!

All pharmacists here are amazing! Love them and the pharmacy, despite what a disaster of a store they are working in. Rich and Carla are phenomenal.

I love working with Rich and Carla in the pharmacy. They are excellent managers and treat the customers beautifully. These other comments about the line during early Covid period pertain to food check out. They are very outdated.

Rich and Carla, the two main pharmacists at this location, are outstanding. I have been getting prescriptions filled by them for years and they are consistently efficient, knowledgeable, and most importantly friendly and caring. They always have a kind word to say and they check in with me as to whether my vaccinations are up to date. They deserve whatever awards are available from Safeway for their awesome service to the community.

Would not give paperwork on the vaccine they had given me the pharmacist said she was not a healthcare professional or a doctor so she couldn't do the paperwork after she gave me a vaccine. She was either being lazy or honest and if she's being lazy she needs to do paperwork as a medical professional if she's not a healthcare worker then why is she giving vaccines

Well... never coming here again. I bought 2 activia yogurts that I realized had expired a month prior. When I met (politely) went up to the lady at customer service to return them she didn't even look me in the eye OR apologize OR do anything you would expect from a customer service person. She basically slapped a gift card together and turned away from me and started talking to her coworker. I felt like a nuisance for being upset that I was sold expired dairy. Such a joke.

This store is not benefic. There's much rip-off deception with their displays/pricing. Several times that I bought items such as snow crabs, I found that they were mal---old or something---a real disappointment. The last time that I shopped there, I bought some wild-caught, pre-cooked shrimp that was marked down somewhat from their regular price. I figured that the shrimp hadn't much storage time left, so, upon arrival at home---only a 3-minute drive from this Safeway, I heated them for consumption by steaming. As in the past with seafood from Safeway, the ammonia odor was present! I ate a few and had to dispose of the rest. After several mal experiences there, I made this time at Safeway, the last.

Overpriced and not a wonderful place to shop. Yes you can get groceries here. For those who love long lines and a feeling of living the Soviet experience, this might be the store you're looking for. It doesn't matter what time you go here, as the lines will be long at checkout. Yes it's nice that this stores been in the community since dinosaurs walked the earth, but a renovation/modernization would be appreciated. It's seriously outdated and can't compare to its more contemporary competitors. The few employees who work here are helpful. It's fairly clean for an old battleship. As for specialty spots such as the bakery or butcher area, they don't have a lot to offer. The thin aisles filled to the brim don't help. You can find a parking spot easily, but I just can't recommend this store. The higher than average prices, and lackluster environment leave a lot to be desired. Sure it'll work in a pinch, but I'm less than thrilled by this store.

I love this location. It is 10 times better than the Safeway at 460 L St NW in DC. You can get cell reception in the store. The employees are friendly and offer help. The seafood Dept is as good as Whole Foods. The produce section is great. The Kosher & Vegetarian options were wonderful. Bonus points on great clearance items.

This location was recently renovated and is sooo much better now! They expanded their shelves and have added many, many new items including tropical fruits (I'm impressed - who would've thought? Lol). Also, they added self-checkout registers so no more "waiting in long lines for one cashier." I now LOVE to shop here. I'm really glad it's convenient and close to where I live! I'm surprised there are not more great reviews for this place. If you've previously avoided this store, come back and see the difference!

I received a card in the mail asking me to check out this Safeway and there were some coupons included, too. I live about 4.5 miles from this store and there are three Safeway stores that I pass by on my way to this store but I don't like the Safeway stores near me very much. The Safeway near me on Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church is a nice, modern store, but typically, there is just one cashier open and the self-checkouts are always out of service. The Safeway on Harrison Street in Arlington is a small store and both the customers and employees act angry and rude. I go to a Safeway in Sterling sometimes. The few people on staff when I shop are nice but the produce department is full of fruit flies. I get overcharged there because the on sale prices are never taken down after they expire. I need a store to buy produce so I thought I would give this McLean Chesterbrook location a try. Honestly, I am shocked by the terrible reviews I am seeing here. I loved this McLean store and I will come back here from now on. I've also shopped at the Giant store on Chain Bridge Road in McLean and I am not a fan of that store either. I often get overcharged there and the wait at customer service takes a long time to get an error fixed. The staff is sometimes nice but the produce isn't always great. I've also encountered rude customers there, too. The Chesterbrook Safeway store is clean and well stocked and organized. It is not a new store but I liked it and I especially liked the helpful staff. I loved the produce department. Everything was fresh and I bought some lettuce that was perfect for a big salad I made. There were two produce employees working early on a Saturday morning and there were no fruit flies anywhere. I found everything I needed and the prices were great. I love the department where they make fresh food like roast chicken. I bought some and it was amazing! I saw staff setting up the salad bar and that looked fantastic, too. I will try the salad bar soon. The meat department and seafood department are outstanding. It reminds me of the old Giant Gourmet that used to be on Chain Bridge Road. I bought some shrimp on sale and they were excellent. The fresh meat and seafood is displayed beautifully. The cashier who helped me was so friendly and nice and I didn't have to wait at all. I found all the other customers shopping at the store to be nice, too. Every employee I saw at the store was helpful and friendly. I am going to enjoy coming here for my grocery shopping each week.

There are quite a few grocery stores in the McLean area all competing for our grocery business. Most of the time I go to Giant or Ballucci's stores. On occasion I run over to Safeway for a quick purchase since this happens to be the closest store to my house. Each and every time I go there I am reminded as to why I never want to go there again. This is by far the worst store in the area. The store is limited in selection, and generally looks like it needs to be cleaned and renovated. The store has 10 cash registers yet I have never seen more than two of them open at even the busiest times. The prices are not that competitive and in my opinion the produce seems a bit old. That being said, all of this can be fixed. The worst part of the going to that store is the fear that I might have to interact with store management. Asking the management for help is useless. They act like they are doing you the biggest favor and they let you know that immediately by their standoffish and nasty attitude. There is one woman who is especially rude and quite frankly nasty. I would give her name but I don't know the legal implications. She gets standoffish and get lost vibe before you even get the question out of your mouth. The funny thing is, there is another Safeway in Arlington and outside of the sign out front the two stores aren't even the same. It's is newer looking, cleaner, with a much better selection. Most importantly the staff is attentive. I think I will not forget anymore why I shouldn't go to this store and drive the extra mile past this place to go to one of their competitors.
