The cashier Tom is the most condescending and rude cashier I’ve ever seen in any grocery stores. I’m an Instacart shopper and when he saw the code indicating I was a shopper, he started with “I don’t know how to deal with Instacart Shoppers” and went into length lecturing me about using plastic bags - saying we like to use a lot of bags and it’s unethical. When I reminded him that the bag still have room for some more items, he said “it’s beyond the bag’s capacity, it’s unethical”. Had it ever across your mind, Tom, what you are doing is also unethical? Is it something for you to judge? I shop using reusable bags when I shop for myself. I dislike plastic bags and prefer paper bags but I don’t see you offer me that option if it’s so unethical to use plastic bags? Why would you work here if you think using plastic bags is unethical or are you just hypocrites? Not mentioning checking out and LECTURING me takes 3 times longer than what it usually would take using self checkout. I guess I was just unlucky to have dealt with such an unpleasant cashier.
Oh then he handed to me the receipts, without looking at me at all, yet greeting the next customer “ are you ready for checkout? Oh I see you have your own bags. Those Instacart shoppers”…

I love this Safeway location! The store has an excellent selection of everything, including all the many groceries we need on a weekly basis, a pharmacy with knowledgeable pharmacists, and friendly and efficient cashiers. There are never long lines, so I always sail right through. It also has a cool, mid-century modern design, with a vaulted ceiling. Highly recommended!

I arrived early morning looking for cooking ingredients for a special dish that I hadn't been able to find. I knew Trader Joe's carried it, but they weren't yet open. So I'm half asleep and wandering around when Milka (sp?) gave a warm welcome and asked if she could help me. Her kindness was like a jolt of caffeine. Good morning! Yes thank you! She quickly knew where everything that I needed was located. She is so nice and knowledgeable. She was equally accommodating with other customers too.

Ah, welcome to the saga of Safeway, where incompetence meets indifference, and the customer is always left scratching their head in disbelief.
I stroll into Safeway, hopeful for a smooth shopping experience, only to find myself in a circus of errors. Chips on sale? Nope, not according to the register. But hold on, the manager swoops in with a flimsy excuse, blaming mismatched tags as if we're all too blind to notice. And when I dare to point out the obvious, poof! The manager vanishes into thin air, leaving a hapless teenager in charge, whose expertise apparently ends at looking at his cell phone and barely glancing at the the self-checkouts. Apparently, actually assisting customers is just too much of a hassle for the "front of house" crew.
And don't even get me started on the deli debacle. Picture this: lights blazing, food tantalizingly displayed behind the glass, but oh no, sorry folks, it's closed for the night. At 6:30 p.m. Never mind the fact that it's barely past dinnertime and there are specials advertised until 8 p.m. But hey, why sell food when you can just throw it away?
Oh Safeway, with your knack for disappointment and your flair for the absurd, may your reign of mediocrity be cut short sooner rather than later. Cheers to hoping for your eventual demise, because honestly, we all deserve better.

It is known for having many out-of-date items still on the shelves, and lots of mold growing in the dairy section. The water filter wasn’t changed for over two years and drinking from it made me sick! The water stank like it was from a swamp.

An embarrassment to the community. Old and cramped, High prices, poor selection, high turnover, understaffed. Pricing errors on almost every grocery trip.UPDATE: They've made improvements. There are now pricing errors only on every 2 trips. And the poorly-trained cashiers don't know how to fix them. And they don't usually man the Express checkout lane anymore. And the Safeway price difference vs other stores keeps getting wider. And you have to jump through hoops to get the sake prices that they display on the shelves. It's astonishing to me why anybody would choose Safeway for any reason other than location. I happily drive further to Harris Teeter or LIDL for a more pleasant shopping experience at lower prices.

ANOTHER UPDATE: the remodel made the store look better, but the expiration problem is worse. No uncommon to find stuff on shelves that expired weeks or even a month earlier. The clearly don’t prioritize checking/rotating stock.UPDATE: They are going through a big renovation now, and the store is looking a lot less depressing. They still have not addresses the expiration date problem, though.Just the worst grocery store ever. It's Virginia's Soviet Safeway. The shelves are empty, the lines are long, and the employees look like political prisoners. If you shop here, ALWAYS check expiration dates. I routinely find stuff on the shelves that expired weeks or months earlier.

Went to get RSV vaccine at pharmacy. Told my wife and self that they could not process the Medicare insurance... that definitely covers the vaccine. Wasted our time with incompetent pharmacy staff.

I like the produce area here. There is plenty of space for all their fresh fruits and vegetables. It feels like they have everything. The sushi bar is slightly lacking, but they are often making fresh sushi when I visit. I also like that there is a Starbucks inside.
