Great full service grocer that is very well stocked in all departments. Take advantage of their many weekly discounts & benefit further by downloading their user-friendly app. Overall clean & well maintained.

Horrible experience. I've been shopping at this Safeway in McLean last 7 years and do most of my grocery buying here. The last two times I've been there in the last 3 weeks, I bought a cart full of items and there were zero cashier lines open. Only self checkout, which is not easy with a full cart. And very little space to put your bags after you scan so when you try to put a bag on the floor or back in the cart, the automated voice screams to "return items to the bagging area" and it freezes your screen and requires you to call over a roving clerk. And I ask them what I'm supposed to do when I have no room to place scanned bags to avoid the auto screamer, and they don't have an answer. First, you need to keep at least one human cashier line open for full carts. If not, then turn off your stupid theft protection electronic eye and trust the customers to do it correctly. You can always station a clerk there to watch customers. Otherwise, my message to shoppers is this: if you want to buy a cart full of groceries in McLean, don't go to Safeway. Go to Giant or Wegmans.

I love this particular Safeway because it is always neat clean and extremely organized. The reason that they did not get 5 stars is because it seemed most of the time they do not have enough cashiers to check you out. Also when the alcohol wipes at the doors run out please replace them

It is a well stocked market with lots of variety and really friendly staff (esp Matilda in the flower section!). The wine selection is surprisingly strong for a Safeway

No one seems to work there, one guy seems to complain about management the entire time I visit and you have to self check out. The only upside, deals on almost everything.

Only gets star bump due to being open until midnight. However, staff here consistently rude and one has to be mindful of moldy produce as encountered during a recent visit. Quality control measures seemingly lacking when compared with likes of their local competition of Balducci's even though will pay a bit more there. One just had to decide what freshness is worth to them. Generally prefer and frequent Whole Foods or Balducci's (with some Costco sprinkled in) but only come here as a last resort. Would advise that you too do the same.

I thought shopping in downtown DC was bad. It looks like this place is going to close tomorrow.

Safeway could be synonymous with higher prices. That seems to be fine with McLean residents, who seem happy to drop money at an alarming rate. I've been to this store several times, and in the parking lot, one could call it a high end car show. To this stores credit, it's a lot better than some of the "Soviet Safeway's" the chain is known for. It's clean, tidy, and very well organized. There are signs that label the aisles in a clear manner. Progress! Occasionally there are bargains, although it's mostly confined to unhealthy prepackaged foods. If you're looking to keep up your fitness routine, this is not the ideal store for that. With that being said, I like how the lines move very fast at checkout. That is not the usual Safeway experience. Also the employees are kind, and do a good job at keeping the shelves stocked. Definitely this is one of the best Safeway's in the area, and kudos to the men and women who work here. It's still too high in cost, especially when you look at the competitors pricing.

This Safeway usually has one slow cashier and 4 closed isles with a self checkout areas that do not provide adequate space to place groceries in the bagging area.I’ve caught many expired dates on the products as well as mislabeled product pricing. Let’s account the fact that they have limited products on the shelves, one would believe those few products are prices accurately and haven’t gone bad. The staff manning the checkout act as though they have already checked out. Considering the 1* level of assistance they provide I suggest that they would find jobs elsewhere so we can all be a bit happier grocery shopping.

I always regret shopping here. I've lost count of the times they overcharged me, and then when I point it out, they make it seem like I'm the one who has created the problem. Lots of sighing and eye-rolling. Ugh. Employees are rude. How do they stay in business with the much-nicer Giant nearby?

I got a free 10 lb russet potatoes, since they didn’t have 10 lb bag . I took 2 5 lb bags with the same brand. The cashier Randy called a Manager to authorize that to me . But a manager said noooo even I told him that u never carried the 10 lb . He told me to go to a different Safeway to check since their store is small one . My question is why they r sending coupons if u don’t have the products. So bad

I went there just to get Starbucks. They didn't have anymore matcha there, but good service regardless. Large varieties of foods in the Safeway itself.

Great store. They have a full selection of your basic foods, including fruits and vegetables, bread, dairy, dried goods, and sweets. There is also a Starbucks inside. Lighting and general atmosphere are casual and set a pleasant mood. Cashiers are friendly but not over the top. The store is never crowded, and youre guaranteed to find a parking space in the outside parking lot. Overall, a pleasant grocery store.
