I booked a room online at the Econo Lodge in Middletown VA, not realizing what I was getting into. The entire hotel reeked of cigarette smoke. Sitting on the table in our room was a used crack cocaine pipe, shown in the photograph. My husband and I immediately left and went to the front desk. The receptionist, who frankly looked like she had probably just been smoking from that crack pipe, assured me I would get a refund. After multiple phone calls there's still no refund; I am now calling Choice Hotels and Priceline customer service (who we booked through) and filing complaints with them. Neither has been helpful.
Bottom line: Choice Hotels runs a drug den at the Econo Lodge. Priceline partners with them and books people into a filthy, unsafe hotel where drug paraphernalia sits out openly in your room. Avoid them all if you value your health and safety.

The service is great, the lady behind the desk was so helpful and nice. I usually don't write. Reviews on hotels or anything, but I did this time. she's been very nice and very helpful.

When booking the hotel it said there was breakfast and a pool. There was no breakfast and there was no pool. They had coffee at 7 or 8 but I didn’t get any. We also had to ask for everything we needed because there were no complementary soaps or towels or even a coffee maker in the room. The tv didn’t work in the room there were no ash trays for the smoking room and the phone was also broken. The lobby was hot as hell but the rooms were nice and cold.

Walked in at 10 pm. Lobby full of irate guests. Clerk was overwhelmed and in tears. Housekeeping clearly didn't clean most of the rooms. Beds were sort of made. Toilet was disgusting. Towels were added up and shoved into the rack. Trash not emptied. Old French fries on the floor. Morning clerk completely uninterested. Avoid this place.

A one star run down motel experience under the rouse of a two star hotel. I don’t expect high end but come on seriously people have some standards. Nice to know they don’t have standards. This was my second room after 45 plus minutes checking in and being charged surprise pet fees included breakfast never came back after Covid but hey let’s advertise we have it anyway. First room was either uncleaned or occupied didn’t stay in it long enough to find out lady at the front desk is either brand new or beyond incompetent and clearly didn’t care . My wife spent over an hour waiting for more paper thin pillows and we gave up. Single handed worst experience at a hotel ever if it wasn’t non refundable id rather sleep in my car.

Stayed here in early April and still talking about how bad it was or is . As new comments show it still has the same poor quality! Shows they have a pool that is non existent. Also the breakfast includes coffee and nothing else .

The hotel looks nice from the outside, but that's it. It doesn't have any on amenities, they say. While the front desk woman was nice, she was new and didn't know how to take a pet fee at all. It took an hour to check in to start, only to find the room had the TV stolen out of it and was not cleaned for our stay. Beds stripped and trash all over the room. When we reported this, they went to two other room that had not been cleaned as well, along with the whole second floor being dirty, causing the guy behind us in line to have similar issues. When we finally got a room clean enough to stay in, we noticed they still had not cleaned out the fridge and freezer. We dealt with it. The guy who was supposed to help the woman at the desk had left for a doctor appt. Without checking to see if she needed help. Another worker in the building is the one who solved our check-in problem. This male employee just felt he could yell at the two of them as well as ny husband for disturbing him at his appointment. Though he yelled that his groceries were melting. So, they have major employee issues. He didn't get any nicer during the stay. Watch him yell at the maid that was left. Yell at the front desk person for everything she did right or wrong.
I went to try and use their laundry, and he came barreling down the hallway, hollering it did not work. I said ok and went to take my stuff back. It's no big deal, but he proceeded to block the entrance and my leaving. Yelling rather than explaining it did not work and would steal my money. I squeezed my way out and went back to my room. Muttering, they should have a sign. He grumbled down the hallways for my husband to hear about a nasty guest. The pool is nonexistent, crossed off the directory, removed from the room maps, and boarded up from what I could see. Nobody had answers for why or if it even was. No breakfast, either even though it was advertised. Honestly, the only good thing is how close it is to the wonderful Family Drive Inn. One of the reasons I came to the area and kept returning to the area.
Avoid wasting your money, there are other hotels in the area to stay in just as close. So, enjoy the drive-in but get a better hotel. You're worth more than they will ever offer.
P.S. don't call corporate they don't care, and this place wants $150 for pet fees that u will not get back and corporate just blames the third party if u book through there or your bank. They do not care about the hotel being shady at all.

First off they lie no pool available for a long time they have no breakfast and broken laundry that has no sign but the old jerk working there just screams at you about it not working . They charged me a 100 for a pet deposit and decided to return it to Priceline instead of me . This is over one of the worst hotel experiences I've had and we travel a lot ...even knowing that these cheaper hotels are kinda junk but we make the best of it . There was no best here the only positive was it's the closest hotel to the local Family Drive Inn . Next time I'll pay more and drive farther . The amenities they say they have might actually match, and with the pet fees makes the room match the price of a better hotel. So, might as well just do yourself the favor and pay a little more.

A perfect example of you get what you paid for. Back in the 90's you could get a room at a hotel like this for $35. The furniture looked like it came from the Salvation army. I was welcomed with a strange odor when entering the room. I could tell that the room hadn't been cleaned for weeks, dust was every where. I was literally punching myself in the face for renting the room for 2 nights at a nonrefundable rate. Checked in on Friday, couldn't wait to leave by 7 am Sunday morning. You know it's bad when you don't want to wait until check out time. However, the AC worked, the shower was hot with good water pressure, laminated floors and comfortable bed to sleep in.

I checked in on February 21 2025. I left went to grab something to eat came back went up to my room and it was disgusting beds wasn't made bathroom nasty. Went back down to front desk Lori gave me another room I went back up and this room was a disaster as well dirty towels all in bathroom and beds not made and floor not clean. Went back down and Lori then gave me another room went to this one and there was bugs in bathroom tub and nasty. Lights in bathroom didn't work. Bed not made. Towels on floor. Maids cart sitting in front of this door. Went back downstairs and informed Lori to just forget it that I as just leaving. She told me she was sorry but they only have 1 maid to clean entire place trying to get them to hire more. Then she told me that I would be refunded for me not staying and if I didnt have refund within 10 days to call her or Marie and they would take care of it. I spoke with Lori again on March 3 2025 because I didn't get the refund yet and she said she would speak with Marie and get back to me. Never heard back. So I called again on March 6 2025 and spoke with Marie she was like I don't know nothing about this so let me get qith Lori then I will get back with you. Today is March 8 2025 and I have called many times and nobody will answer my call now. This is not a professional way of running a business. I have ran a hotel business but I never treated anyone any different then I would want to be treated. And to not get back in touch with me after 16 days total disrespect.

Shout out to Lori @ the front desk. Thanks for your wonderful customer service. Your a rock star. Not only is your customer service amazing but your friendly smile & demeanor go a very long way. Ok back to my review, the hotel lobby is very welcoming, the rooms are outdated, but it's an Econo Lodge. The housekeeping staff needs a little work on customer service but I asked for privacy & I received it. Overall, this particular Econo Lodge is better than most of them. This is my opinion only & its my review. Thanks again

These people NEVER answer the phone. We were quoted a rate for a long time stay. Once we checked in they would not honor the quoted rate. Had either the owner (who will not call you back if there is a problem) or one of the front desk people fraudulently charge our credit card $405 for one night stay. We will NEVER be staying here again!!!
