I’ve been visiting this adoption center over the last year to help both myself and my boyfriend find a new dog, and while I’ve had a long history with this place since childhood, the experience has recently become unnecessarily challenging. My family has adopted every pet through this center since I’ve ever known, and had never had a bad experience. However, my recent visits have been very frustrating and kind of a disappointed to what the organization has come to.
Both my boyfriend and I had similar experiences. We came in, eager to adopt, submitted applications that were approved, and were excited to find a potential match. Unfortunately, neither of us were able to take our initial picks home. In my case, the first dog I chose wasn’t a match because he didn’t get along with cats, which I have at home. But I appreciated that my approved application would be valid for six months, and I was assured I’d be able to take home a dog on the same day if I found a good match.
About a month later, I found another dog I was very excited to meet, with the expectation that if he was a good match, I could bring him home that day. During the meet-and-greet, everything was going well, I doubled checked with the adoption counselors if my approved application would let me take him at the end of the day. However, a staff member, who I believe was in charge that day and might be involved in the adoption process but not the director, had came in to see if that would be possible. She started questioning me in a passive-aggressive tone, repeating questions I’d already answered during my initial visit. She questioned my living situation as I do live with my dad, who was fully aware I was adopting a dog. This led to her saying I couldn’t take the dog home because she’d need to contact the director to confirm whether my dad would need to meet the dog as well. (Even though this information had been in my application from the beginning, which was already approved and was not questioned with the first dog I looked at.)
When I asked if there was any estimated time for a response, she insinuated I wasn’t going to expect to hear back soon, as it was a holiday weekend. I even offered to have my dad come in that day to see if it would help the process, but my offer was declined without explanation. Then after I left, about 30 minutes later, I got a call saying I could adopt the dog after all.
While I’m thrilled to have my new fur baby, I can’t help but feel the process was far more complicated than necessary. My boyfriend had a very similar experience last year, except in his case, he was told his roommate needed to come in – which again turned out not to be necessary in the end.
I completely understand the importance of having policies to ensure animals go to safe, loving homes. But once an application is approved, it shouldn’t feel like there are additional hoops to jump through. Please don’t assure people they’ll be able to easily take their new pets home to pre-approved applicants if the process is going to be hindered by unnecessary complications.

The director of staff is by far the rudest professional person to deal with animal adoptions. Local staff was amazing and so sweet - director made sly and rude comments, which makes me so sad I can only imagine how many animals are not adopted because of her pure attitude and disregard of proper communication. Would never recommend anybody to go to this location to adopt purely on her horrific attitude.

We met a sweet puppy and decided to adopt him. We were told he was a terrier and would be small to medium size (around 30lbs). Within weeks we realized he was not a terrier but an American hound. This was confirmed by our vet who laughed when we told her we were told he was a terrier. She said there isn’t a bit of terrier in him. At a year old, he weights 50lbs and is not done growing. He needs a big yard, which we don’t have. He has chewed all of the window sills on our main floor. Destroyed 2 chairs and an ottoman. We are afraid to let him outside of the living room/kitchen area.
I have sent several emails to the SPCA explaining they need to be careful about how they list very young puppies. Not a single response. They will IGNORE you the minute you walk out with the animal. Make sure you know what you are getting before you sign the paperwork. We care about the dog and love him but he is destroying our house.

Awesome folks who do a great job in caring for the furbabies who need homes. Got my Tootsie from them and used their services with the second rescue girl we adopted. HUGS! ❤️

We actually got an amazing dog, in spite of the director being unprofessional and rude. The director of this organization is clearly not qualified to run this shelter. She's only a vet tech, and had the nerve to bad mouth my veterinarian. I would not recommend this shelter and I will never do business with them again. It's a shame that a woman of her advanced maturity has no manners at all. So sad!

Absolutely breath taking facility. However? We went in to see a dog, and were not given any transparency that she was already multiple steps in with another application. Our family put in the effort and encourage me to adopt a dog that was adopted less than 24 hours later and posted on their FB as adopted later that previous afternoon. Wonderful for the dog but so inconsiderate of families that come to see animals. I did not appreciate that we took the time to fill out an application fall in love with a dog and then find out that that same dog was already being loved by someone else who had their adoption finalized literally after we left they came and picked up the dog. This would be considered a pending adoption and should be treated as such. There was no transparency and this actually happened a second time here where we tried with another furry best friend. Needless to say, good luck. We won’t be coming back here ever again. Especially if you enjoy getting your heart broken.we are extremely upset.

Help when we needed it most! Our dog got out of our yard and thanks to the SPCA he's home again. They provided great loving care while he was at their shelter. Thank you so much!

Are there cameras in the shelter? Because the director is so rude I tried to adopt a dog and she said How do I know that you are not going to abuse him. Also I think it is messed up that they ask what country you are from.this director is racist and I think she should get fired.
