George Washington's Mount Vernon is a beautiful and popular historic estate where American history comes alive. The grounds are beautiful with quiet places outside, a beautiful view of the water, and beautiful gardens. Visitors can see Washington's Mansion, historic outbuildings like the blacksmith’s shop, and a working farm with animals. A highlight is the tomb of George & Martha Washington and the memorial to the enslaved people who lived and worked on the estate. The fully-functioning Gristmill & Distillery is open on weekends. The tour is awesome and worth every penny, offering an amazing time. The staff and tour guides are excellent, kind, well informed, helpful, and happy to be there, answering every question. The education received and hearing the staff provide information is priceless. While some areas may be under renovation, the place and surroundings are beautiful. It is a great place for family trips, group tours, or a chill day out, and is highly recommended for history buffs or anyone interested in the Revolutionary War. There is not enough time to see and enjoy everything, so many plan to return.
