Well worth the time and walk. Such sacred and historic grounds. Proud to be an American US Citizen, sons of great legal immigrants that helped build and protect the country.
American history comes alive at George Washington's Mount Vernon, just 15 miles south of Washington, D.C. The most popular historic estate in America, Mount Vernon is open 365 days a year. See Washington's Mansion and historic outbuildings like the blacksmith’s shop and the spinning house. Pay your respects at a memorial to the enslaved people who lived and worked on the estate, and at the tomb of George & Martha Washington. Stroll the beautiful gardens, see the animals at our working farm, and discover the fully-functioning Gristmill & Distillery, open on weekends from April-October. The exhibit, "Mount Vernon, The Story of an American Icon," features period artifacts and tells the stories of the people who shaped this historic landmark.
