Flophouse
We were refunded...gratefully
There's one nice room...#2?
Look over the room before you pay for it. Do not, like we did, reserve rooms ahead of your travel time. There are many nice rooms, and affordably priced in Princeton, not far away.

I honestly have 0 complaints about mine and my husband's stay, the rooms were cozy and and the decorations were wonderfully historic. Allen the owner was a wonderful and accommodating host, got us a ride to AND from a very nice 11 mile hike! Brian (with a I not a Y).

They say you haven’t lived until you stay at The MacArthur Inn perched in downtown Narrows, Virginia on the River New! A stately structure, warm Southern hospitality, comfortable and spacious rooms that have been nicely updated, giant windows overlooking the Blue Ridge… and best of all, proprietor Allen Neely (and what a great first name). You’ll get a pleasant earful of stories and facts of local history and lore that will make your stay all the more pleasant and memorable for it. Head down to Narrows from nearby Blacksburg and make it a weekend, just like we did for the big Virginia Tech home football game. You’ll rest better at The MacArthur than at the busy Hampton Inn! Thx Allen for a great experience! -Allen

The Inn is a step back in time but its always clean and that Old jukebox playing those 1930's records melt your heart. And the ol' Time Jam sessions on Thurday days night with the Dinner is amazing , the people come from everywhere in the area to play and eat. I really enjoyed kyacking the river of those beautiful mountains. The rooms were Great and the house keeping staff are always so helpful and friendly. All over a Great time was had by all!

Absolutely pleasant atmosphere. The historic authenticity of the Inn is remarkable. It’s adorned with time appropriate decor and staff. The owner, Mr. Neely, is as mysterious and stoic as the beautiful Inn. Friendly and inviting, he takes each individual’s experience personal. Striving and stressing over comfort and class. You’ll immediately know him by his deep but kind voice and his contagious laugh. Full of hugs and stories, he is the perfect matri-dee for this classy but cozy atmosphere. One walk into the lobby, and you’re greeted immediately with a feeling of grandma’s favorite diner. The rooms are painstakingly personally cleaned by the kindest house keeper. If you need absolutely anything, she’s quick and with a smile. If you can’t find her, listen for the litter patter of her red speckled pup. It’s an older establishment, but somehow she keeps the marble, wood, and cloth smelling fresh and shiny. Her and Mr. Neely approach every request, situation, and need with sincerity and a smile.
If you’re blessed enough to be there on a Thursday, you’ll be entertained with his house jam sessions. Super cool btw, and greeted by his huge mustache, and the smell of a home cooked dinner.
Prepare to step back in time, and fall in love with The McArthur Inn.

The MacArthur Inn feels as comfortable as home. The historic atmosphere creates a charming energy. Situated in the quaint town of Narrows, where life just seems to move a little slower. An ol’ time string band plays on Thursday evenings along with a home cooked dinner. There is a local park, and a local swimming hole as well. Great fishing holes. Lovely place for a family get away.
The rooms are clean and the staff were so welcoming we felt like family.

What makes this hotel, is the people, that work and run it,they make you feel at home here. Plus you get to stay in a hotel with so much history, and every Thursday they serve a home cook meal, and while your enjoying the wonderful food, you get to listen to live music. You can't get any better than that.

Beautiful location but horrible room!
Rooms: I was excited to stay here after reading the reviews but the moment I stepped into the room I knew it wasn’t going to be a good experience. I can’t say about the rest of the rooms here but ours was dark and depressing! One lamp with a small watt bulb provided no light. There is a musty damp smell that comes from something old and unclean. The carpet felt sticky on my bare feet. The bed mattress felt old and creaky. Window unit for AC was adequate to keep room cool but noisy. When I turned unit off I could hear conversations from all directions….this was after 10 pm. We never saw a housekeeper the several days we were here. I’m not a person that is hard to please but I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. The outside of the building is very nice and historic but the inside needs a lot of work! There were no safety devices on our room door like a deadbolt or safety chain, did have one at one time but removed or broken and never replaced. It appears the Inn had a working elevator in its past history but not repaired since who knows when. The stairs were a little hard on my 70+ knees but I was aware they had no elevator when we checked in…..the people here are very nice and hospitable but I would not stay here again unless major renovations are accomplished. No room amenities in our room like fridge, wi-fi, microwave or hairdryer. Definitely not worth what we paid!

I recently stayed at the MacArthur Inn on the recommendation of friends. It was a personal business trip and this hotel is absolutely amazing in its history and the hospitality the hotel staff and hotel owner, Allen Neely, provided. It's a historical hotel named after General Douglas MacArthur and there have been many other celebrities that have stayed there. I occupied the same room as John Wayne once did (cool). The hotel is very quaint, clean, and the rooms are extremely comfortable. As a retired hospital administrator, I know a little something about customers (in my case its patients) and what they expect. The MacArthur Inn is definitely a must stay hotel if you are visiting Narrows VA or passing thru the area.Perhaps the best part for me (an amateur history buff) were my several conversations with Allen and the stories he told me about the history of that part of Virginia and of the hotel itself.Loved the very comfortable bed to sleep and the plush towels (not the thin kind you get at many hotels/motels).Highly recommend you checking out this very unique hotel !!!

I had occasion to travel recently to Narrows VA on personal business and decided to stay at the MacArthur Inn on the recommendation of friends. Met the owner, Allen Neely, and had several interesting conversations with him on the history of the area as well as the MacArthur Inn itself. (It is actually named for General Douglas MacArthur).I can HIGHLY recommend staying at the MacArthur Inn if you are visiting or passing thru this area of Virginia. It was really nice to have a very comfortable bed to sleep in AND to have plush towels (not the thin kind you usually find at hotels). Also, as a retired hospital administrator, I appreciated the high level of cleanliness of the hotel. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly too.Thoroughly enjoyed staying at MacArthur Inn and talking with Mr. Neely. Mark Caton
