There are so many good shops to have furniture refinished in this area. But if the piece is really important to you, and you want it to be artfully repaired and restored, you really need to contact Monticello Antiques. They do museum quality work. We had a desk that had been in the family since the late 1700's. Monticello Antiques took great care of it for us. Note that there is another place with a similar name. You want the shop located at 227 W York Street. The phone is 757-622-4124

Restored a dining chair to match exactly to the other antique chairs. The restored chair looked same age as others. Restored a table- pedestal base was split with one leg completely detached and the top sloped from my grandfather leaning against it for 50 years. Cleaned up the finish. Looks better than when I got it from my grandparents. Couldn't be happier that I didn't have to give up the pieces that bring me such great memories. Not to mention how hard it is to get furniture during covid.

I inherited an antique bed that belonged to my grandmother. It had beautifully carved posts with pineapples at the top but it was only a 3/4 sized bed and just long enough for a person under 5'5" to sleep comfortably. I loved the posts but knew it was impractical to keep the bed due its size so imagine how happy I was to hear about Monticello Antiques. Irene and Dave were able to enlarge the bed so it can accommodate a queen mattress, which is what I wanted in the guest room. They worked with me to design the headboard so it would be taller and more updated than the original and Dave fixed the posts where additional carving was needed. It just turned out beautifully. I couldn't be more pleased. You cannot buy the craftsmanship of this bed in today's world. Thank you, Irene and Dave for the love and care you gave to my grandmother's bed. It is lovely!

Parking is the least of my worries. Irene and staff are highly talented, customer oriented, professionals who "restored" the finish on my vintage clock by carefully working it back to the original patina. I would walk a mile to get there!!

They really know their stuff. Took some broken fiddleback chairs in for repair and now I can't even tell where they were broken!

Took a freestanding bar to here for significant repairs (including completely rehanging hinges, repairs to the wood base) and some finish touchups. The repairs were expertly done and the finish work top notch (and perfectly blended). The dedication to attention to detail and correct craftsmanship was impressive. Very highly recommended.
