The other reviews are telling me why so many people seemed surprised that I was wandering around here on foot unsupervised. (I was walking back from the Chrysler museum to ODU.) For me, this Food Lion had everything I wanted. And frankly I was pretty surprised it did because it can be hard to find Diet Dr. Pepper and Fruit and Nut at the normal supermarkets where I live. Everyone was quite friendly and helpful, but (as mentioned), I did stick out a little as a customer. I'm pretty sure the fact that I was so impressed that they gave out plastic bags seemed a bit off, for example, but they were very nice about it.

Parking lot is busy, dimly lit and littered with debris. IMO quality is at or slightly below Wal Mart neighborhood market with markedly higher prices overall. Great Value brand trumps FL house brand in both areas (price, quality). They do carry an assortment of beer and wine, but less than Harris Teeter. CYO 6 pack is nice for people with FOMO, but options vary and I often find them less than enticing. Employees I've encountered aren't outright rude but don't go out of their way to attend to customers. Not uncommon to have 6+ ppl in lone checkout lane. For these reasons, I've removed my MVP card from my wallet, opting to shop at HT or WMNM.

This store keeps amazing every time I visit. They have a great selection of everything. Love that they sale Carne for Tacos chopped already. I cook a little it of everything and I know I'll find whatever seasoning I need for the new recipe I found on YouTube or TikTok

The other five reviews on here are very negative but I personally love this Foodlion. I've shopped at Foodlion my whole life even back when I lived in richmond and have always loved it! It feels like home and it is super easy to navigate and all the workers are super friendly!! I definitely recommend coming here for your weekly grocery shopping they're always stocked and have wonderful options and prices.

Great place to shop if you want to leave feeling traumatized. It's never a pleasant experience shoping here, if you get through the parking lot & through the door, the manager might tackle you inside for doing nothing other than shopping. Save your life & shop just across the tracks. Fresh Market, & a few others worth shopping at, just don't go here to save a dime & you are not welcomed if you do.

Like rotting fruits and veggies? Ever wanted to experience the fear of being stabbed and robbed in a parking lot after sunset? Like dealing with surly, ill trained cashiers trying to ring you up on outdated equipment that will constantly error out on one thing if not another? Boy do I have the grocery store for you! To be fair, their grocery prices are cheaper than Farm Fresh or Harris Teeter BUT you have to be super careful about the produce and expiration dates. No joke, don't go too late into the night, it becomes sketch city after dark.

Before I begin, this place has improved on the inside, and have added a deli inside. Over the years, it went from Food Lion to Bottom Dollar and back to Food Lion. To be quite honest, I never saw a difference in the store minus the fact that Food Lion provides bags. Produce isn't always too great, which sucks when you can't just hit up one store on the way back for your needs. The customer service for the most part is lacking, but it isn't always the case. I have been to Food Lions that are actually really nice and super awesome with customer service. This place just isn't the greatest experience straight from the lot. However, it gets the job done. It's much better than what it was, years ago I would have to check expiration dates because I kept buying things that had gone bad. It has improved

No. Just don't go here. Yes, prices are cheap. Yes, the ABC store is in the same shopping plaza. But employees show zero professional conduct, you will often hear gunshots from the nearby questionable neighborhood, and witness the tenured employees ducking behind brick columns outside to escape the line of fire. Wonderful. I will pass and invest some money in my groceries. And possibly my personal health and safety.

What can I say? It's a grocery store. It used to be a Bottom Dollar, when Food Lion attempted to specialize their grocery stores for the neighborhood they were in. This means that this particular Food Lion was meant to serve the surrounding lower-income neighborhoods, so it could be forgiven the shoddy store, surly employees, and low quality of items because the prices were low. When this experiment failed, it became just another middle-line grocery. That said, there are improvements inside and out. There's new flooring. The produce section has been updated to the faux-farmers-market decor that's so trendy. You can buy organic bananas (but not organic apples), tofu, and meat substitutes. They even have Boca and Morningstar Farms items in their freezer cases. Speaking of freezer cases. The frozen/prepared food items are very close to the produce section on the right side of the store, with the ice cream, dairy, and cold beer on the OTHER side. This took some getting used to. Bread isn't near the produce section or the bakery/deli area. It's near the breakfast cereal. I know. Weird. There's a random aisle of office supplies and whatnots between the international foods and the rest of the center aisle stuff, but the paper goods is still over near the left side of the store. I don't know. The layout is weird. Sign up for their MVP program, since you'll be paying some premium prices without it.
