I stayed at Larry’s property with my girlfriend for two nights in November 2019. We arrived at around 7 or 8 PM and managed to find the property using GPS. The listing had indicated that Larry would send a code to get into the cabin. Larry did not send the code, but did communicate that the cabin was unlocked. When we arrived, we were not able to get the door open. There was one regular door knob, and another knob with a number pad. Not having a phone number for Larry, I used the app to contact him and let him know. I asked for the door code, and after there was no response to that request, I asked that he give me a call.Instead, he emerged from a neighboring building a few minutes later, wearing a bathrobe. He said that the door was definitely unlocked, and that we must have turned the knob the wrong way. He punched in the code and let me inside, and went on to tersely explain some of the features of the cabin, and told me that he had been sleeping because he needed to get up at 1 AM. The door code was written incorrectly on a blackboard inside the room (not visible from the door). He corrected it and we had no further trouble getting in after that point. The room itself was cozy – mostly clean and well kept. The exceptions to the cleanliness were the area around and on top of the window, and the pet fur in the sheets. The bathroom area is separated by the cabin by nothing more than a white sheet. The hot water, toilet and appliances all worked fine. The bed itself was moderately comfy, and (for a 6’ tall person) a little on the small side.We left early on Tuesday morning for our drive to D.C., after washing the dishes and packing the trash out to a dumpster on the property. When I got back to work in Denver on Wednesday morning, I checked my email and discovered that we had neglected to strip the sheets from the bed, which was not included in the $40 cleaning fee. Although Larry had never called me (despite me having provided my number), he had apparently contacted AirBnB to report this as a violation of his “house rules”.Even though he had failed to deliver on a basic level by not providing the entry code (as was promised in my reservation confirmation), and despite the odd welcome we received, I had still been planning to leave a positive review. But to find out that he reported me for simply not stripping the sheets? This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I would not consider returning or recommending the property to others.
