Very kind compassionate people that are there. What I didn't like they didn't create their just following the rule. I found a dog, many people knew this dog and it was a repeat offender. Just poor little dog is a regular of getting away without a collar and carelessness of a very bad owner who is not fined or penalized at all. Regional Center for animals isn't responsible for finding people. However Roanoke Animal control is. If they're working together and supporting one another there should be far more respect to the people who are taking in the animals. What I mean by this- Why should I be forced to fill out paperwork? Why should I be forced to give my personal information when Roanoke Animal control is not taking care of this animal that keeps on getting free? Why does it fall on my privacy as a good Samaritan to be abandoned for a person who could care less? I don't like it that I had to give my personal information and signature to returning a dog that everybody knew gets out regularly. It's unfair to a person that possibly could kill an animal because of the lack of care a human being would take with a pet. These guys are doing their job but Roanoke Animal control that works with them should do a much better job.I actually would like to serve and volunteer to help these animals. The staff were very good and kind caring people. They were just stuck in the middle. But because these two organizations work together something needs to be done. It's poor animal control. If the content of my review has helped you in any way, please give a thumbs up/like ? and feel free to follow me for future posts.

We got a 1 yr old kitty end of January 2024.. Everyone was real nice and the animals are very well taken care of. They provide perfect documentation of what is going on with the animals their entire stay. There are a lot of very caring people there!

Went a few days ago looking to adopt a new pet. The facility no longer lets you walk through and view pets. You can only do a meet and greet after 12p and you must pick the animal from a list they provide you with. These aren’t even half of the rules we were given before we were turned away because “the staffed needed to do their paperwork.”There are way too many hoops to jump through for those who are just simply wanting to provide a forever home. Some people just want to adopt and not shop. There’s a reason for the full kennels and lower adoption rates.

This is supposed to be a shelter that cares however the female pit that was finally trapped and was gentle and eating out of the woman's hand that trapped her was killed even though a man had put in an adoption and was approved for this dog and the shelter knew this and killed the dog anyway. Stating the dog had a different disposition in the shelter well could it have anything at all to do with the fact AC used a catchpole and pulled her out of the woman's car where big surprise she felt safe????? She was scared and of course she is going to be different! The shelters always state that people that adopt a dog and then bring it back didn't give the dog time to decompress well that holds true in the shelter also!!! So depressing that this dog had a chance at a good home and was still killed!!!. Unreal!!!.

Nice place. The one Young Lady that helped me was very helpful. I was only there to donate some live capture traps.

Wonderful people. They definitely care about animals and what they do. Fund a stray or know someone who needs to surrender an animal? They will find a good home and have great fosters. They have an animal food pantry if you would like to donate and please come get your next fur baby here!

They took a dog I caught running around as a stray then provided medical care and we were able to adopt this wonderful ball of fur with no issues and now health screened. Thank you for taking good care of Stella (formerly Azalea) until her stray hold ended!

Usually many to "be chosen by". Good Luck finding a new friend. It does not hurt to take a look. Pictures available on-line

They refuse to take feral cats, when they don't even know their feral. Solution was to release it back where it came from or they will euthanize it. Sounds to me like there needs to be a better option here.

It's unfortunate, because we were interested in adopting a dog from them so we applied and were honest about having another dog. She is older and her whole life is aggressive towards larger dogs at first and takes time to get used to them. We were very upfront about this. We also told them she would probably not warm up being a strange place that is overwhelming. Over the years we have introduced multiple dogs (and plenty with high energy) to her and they end up being fine and being friends. Because she wouldn't warm up and be friendly in two short meet and greets they denied us adopting. The lady during the second meet and greet was all over the place on why we couldn't adopt. It started with our dog not being friendly (And she wasn't just being mean she just growled a couple times). After we explained how she is, it turned into how families during the pandemic just rushed to get dogs even if they weren't a good fit (making an assumption about my family who she doesn't even know). At that point I called her out on her assumption and let her know it's been a few years since our other dog passed and we didn't rush in during the pandemic because with two young kids we already had enough going on. So clearly we aren't those type of people. She then explained how our dog was old and we should spend more time with her and another dog would take way from that. They made assumptions on items they know nothing about and ignored the facts (and actually didn't even try to gather any). The facts: 1) Our dog has been this way her whole life. We have had her for her whole life. We have been down this road before and know how to handle it. 2) we would keep them separated unless we were around and introduce them properly until they were comfortable with each other. 3) we had a big fenced in yard where the new dog could help get energy out so they were more calm around our dog. 4) we have a gate between upstairs and downstairs so if our older dog wants alone time she can fit under the gate and go on her own like she has done before. Yes, their job is 100% to keep the dogs they have safe and make sure they go into good homes. Their job is ALSO to make sure they gather the facts. During the entire two visits they never even asked us questions they should have (like how we would get them used to each other, would they be together alone, etc). In the end, they have the power and it is what it is. That being said, now after never wanting to go and purchase a dog from a breeder that is what we will do because I am not the type to lie on applications just so we get approved. RCACP...do better.
