The Taubman Museum of Art is a free, family-friendly museum in downtown Roanoke. It offers inspiring historical and contemporary art exhibitions that change regularly, featuring a large selection of organized and interesting artwork, mostly paintings but also some sculpture. The venue is comfortable and very nicely appointed.
Visitors enjoy an array of exhibition-related programming for adults and children, along with creative and fun exploratory activities in the Art Venture interactive gallery. The museum provides a knowledgeable visitor services team, complimentary wheelchairs, and maintains enhanced sanitization. Face masks are optional.
While some past exhibits have been described as odd, the museum is generally considered really incredible for a free museum. Some visitors wish more of the facility, such as the restaurant or IMAX theater, were open. Overall, it provides a very manageable and enjoyable visit, with reasonable costs for special performances like the Christmas show, which delights guests from teens to octogenarians.
What a lovely surprise this was for us! I have long admired the unique building but had not visited until this week. Admission was free thanks to a generous donor. It was interesting with an eclectic collection of art. Definitely go if you get the chance!

World-class architectural structure encompassing a wide variety of displays. We particularly enjoyed the emphasis on local and regional artists. Free admission. Amazing.
