This Kroger is almost ALWAYS out of carts and NEVER has any motorized carts that are charged or work. This needs to be corrected soon!!!

I moved to the area in May. And I was told over and over again that everything in Salem is the absolute best. Before I moved to Salem I lived in Roanoke. I can tell you that the grocery stores in Salem are definitely horrible. This particular grocery store apparently doesn't like to staff their cashiers. Today I had a basket full of groceries and when I went to get in line, the line was literally halfway down an aisle. There were other staff collecting carts, stocking shelves, the manager was walking around in his Lee bluejeans greeting guess, however there were only two cashiers. This is not the second third or fourth time that I've walked out of the store. The food selection is also less to be desired. Last week I tried to find fresh mozzarella for a very simple recipe. Nope! They have a pour beer selection, their produce is not fresh, and their seafood is laughable. This isn't to say all Kroger's are like this. In fact there's some very nice Kroger's in Roanoke. But the Kroger in Salem is a complete dump. I wouldn't recommend going to Food Lion either. I'm not sure why people say Salem has the best everything. They clearly are lacking in a lot of areas. Perhaps a judgment might be there number one concern.

I shop at this kroger because it's closer than lakeside salem kroger. I usually go during the afternoon to early evening hours bc I work 8/6 m/s. Occasionally I will realize that I need something from kroger and it might be 10p.m.(is this a crime) I am not going in for a shopping cart full of groceries. I need 1 or 2 items.=5 minutes or less in the store. So tell me why I go to kroger on atleast 5 occasions where every door is locked at 10:30. (Every sign I can find says 11p.m. is the time this store closes.) Finaly a customer comes out and the bumb with the grey hoodie has to physically unlock the door to let her out. I ask if I can come in for 1 item and he says no, like he's a bouncer at a club. Who t.f. is this? Totally lazy and unprofessional. I thought he was a customer bc he was wearing a raggedy hoodie. I understand on holidays, bc the store goes out of its way to post a sign with hours on it. This sign included 24,25 and new years. Not the day before Christmas eve. From what it appears to me, the managers are probably leaving early, prompting the high-school aged workers to think they can close before 11, so they can get home early. I have worked in various, PROFESSIONAL retail settings and NEVER has it been ok to close the store early, unless advertised or there's a serious issue prompting such action. I've been taught that if a customer walks in at 1 minute prior to closing, they are a valuable customer and you can POLITELY tell them that you are closing soon. "We are about to close, but is there something I can help you find ?" This prompts the customer in a mature, professional way to grab what they need and get out. I will try to contact someone in person at the store to get my message across and maybe learn that there is a legitimate reason for closing early, every day. Im open, but they do t tell me why when I'm there, they just won't let me in with 30 minutes left to go on their shift.I GUESS KROGER ISNT WORRIED BC PEOPLE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO GO THERE. GOOD WAY TO APPRECIATE YOUR VALUABLE CUSTOMERS....

Today I was shopping at Spartan Square Kroger’s. I had my cloth shopping bags that I reuse all the time in my buggy. Why my back was turned someone stole my bags. They were empty cause I had just started shopping! I complained to management! He said he could pull video but there was nothing he could do. He did give me two .99 cent bags. Just makes me made I had just purchased two of Kroger’s $5 cloth bags plus had a good refrigerated bag and other good bags. They don’t seem to care that they just lost a customer. I can spend my money elsewhere. And probably won’t get stolen from while I’m at another store!!!

the store itself is awesome and I do all my grocery shopping here! however the pharmacy is horrible. rude pharmacy staff, issues after issues with not being able to get my daughter's medicine on time. and they always want to blame someone else. never receive the text alerts they claim to send out when an RX is ready. yet they say "well we sent it". the staff is always RUDE, never seem to know what they are doing. and when you ask to speak to the store manager to file a complaint they will hang up on you!!! I will definitely be switching pharmacies.
