I called 2 days in advance for an appointment and showed up this morning at 0800 to check my car in for a fluid check and replacement, but no one was at the office. Since there was a light dusting of snow, I waited for 10 minutes to see if someone was coming, but then decided to call them in case they were inside, and just not hearing me at the door. The attendant asked for all of the same information that I had provided 2 days earlier and then said that Steve would be there in a few minutes to check me in. I waited for one more hour, but no one ever showed up. Unfortunately, there isn't an option for 0 stars. I'd prefer to pay dealer prices than go with this business, at least they have reasonable customer service.Service: Transmission

The Springfield, VA location, has had my car for more than a week with repair work or diagnosis not even started. My warranty is with CarShield (American Auto Shield). I've been told by AAMCO that the warranty adjuster has not responded with a decision on my claim. When I contacted the warranty company I was told that there's no information in their system that AAMCO contacted them with claim information. I have to call AAMCO for updates and in response they keep sending the "Repair Order" document to authorize $2262.00 to get started. As I'm writing this review I've been waiting for AAMCO to call me back for over an hour. AAMCO never calls with an update, I'm their customer and its as if I don't exist. I've been more than patient with this situation and hopefully by writing this review others can avoid this predicament. Also, I'm able pay for this repair without the warranty but this option has never been presented to me. My patience is wearing thin and I'm starting to consider other repair options.

we paid $ 4800 to rebuild a transmission and they weren't professional. They broke the gear lever and welded it with plastic and they never said, I have been parked for 3 weeks with my truck and they with the $ 4800. The Hispanic who works there only says that they call a phone number, they never solve anything. My question is if there is no control entity that sanctions this aamco location?

My transmission failed in Va while driving from Florida to NY. Rod was very helpful and professional and very easy to work with over the phone, as I live in NY. He was very detailed in his pricing and their his communication was on point every step of the way. Their service was prompt and quality. I highly recommend this business!Service: Transmission

I was somewhat wary about using this franchise location because of the mixed Google reviews I read. What caused me additional concern was that one of the first questions I was asked when bringing my truck there was "do you have an extended warranty." I answered "Yes," but to me, the question as asked was a "red flag." I was suspicious that my truthful answer might be giving them an open-ended incentive to do work that was not really needed. After all, why should the customer care if the extended warranty company ends up paying for a "repair"?As an educated consumer who is meticulous about maintaining my vehicles, I knew there was nothing wrong with my truck. The reason I took it to AAMCO was simply because it had reached 60K odometer miles and was due for a transmission fluid draining, filter replacement, adjustment, and refill...in other words, routine preventative maintenance. Months earlier I had stopped by this Springfield franchise and gotten a price quote from franchise owner "Rod" for this service. Therefore, I was expecting to pay the quoted amount for the requested work, including labor, parts, and fluid. But after being asked the question about an extended warranty, I felt I needed to be very direct and to-the-point with "James," who was the person on site dealing with customers that day. I told him my truck's transmission was performing normally and I did not want AAMCO to look for and find problems that did not exist! I mentioned my conversation with Rod to James and showed him Rod's quote (which I had in writing). I explained to James that I am a wary consumer and a frequent consumer affairs writer/contributor. I emphasized I would not approve any unnecessary work. At the same time, I told him I would be writing an accurate and thorough Google review to describe my experience at AAMCO. It was late afternoon and James said the truck would go on the shop's lift to be serviced the next morning. I picked up the truck the next day, after work was completed. So what is my verdict about this visit? I am glad to report that my concerns going in proved to be unwarranted. AAMCO technician Javier performed the services I requested. Before retrieving the truck, I spoke by phone with owner Rod (who, I was told, owns four franchises in the metro area). Rod was knowledgeable, polite, and very much in command. He assured me that my truck had checked out okay...no problems found. Only the work I requested had been done. No repairs were needed.Interestingly, James, who was still manning the front desk in Springfield, did not write-up my bill. Instead, he called Rod who was apparently at another location. Within 10 minutes, Rod transmitted my bill to the Springfield location's computer. Rod reduced the price of the service from the usual amount charged and included a military discount. He billed me what he had previously quoted months earlier, plus sales tax.I was treated courteously and professionally during this visit and have no complaints about the quality and timeliness of the work AAMCO performed on my truck at this location. They did what I asked them to do, no more, no less. They did it efficiently, and their price was substantially lower than what a dealership would have charged for the same service. I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

James and Javier were very professional and educated me on what’s going on with my vehicle. I have a 2014 Nissan Altima and my car couldn’t go into gears, so I thought it was a transmission problem so I already knew I was going to spend over $2k and when they checked my vehicle. They found out it was my gear shift that I needed to replace and since then my car is back on the road. Thanks again guys, very honest and knowledgeable about what they do. Would recommend everyone to go here if you looking for trustworthy mechanics because that is rare these days !

for a 2 hour diagnostic, they took over 3 days, and still did no work, yet tried to bill for it. They were non communicative, promised to give updates (which never happened) and always had an excuse (i was just about to call you). This experience was a complete inconvenience, and accomplished nothing but frustration. I would not recommend doing any business with this location.

James & Javier were a tremendous help today after using them a few times. I replaced my O2 sensor sensors myself & while underneath I saw a small cap/cover had fallen off & missing. It didn't seem to be urgent but upon return to have them check it they replaced the blank spot w/one to seal it. Now one less thing to worry about.😉

James and Javier replaced the transmission in my 2004 Ford Excursion XLT, saving a cross-country family vacation that was scheduled for the following week. They provided the truck on-time and were very helpful with a follow-up warranty issue. Thanks again, guys!
