On September 5, 2023, my husband took my car to Virginia Tire & Auto (VTA) because the battery light was on and wouldn't go off. After a diagnostic inspection, VTA called me to tell me that both the battery and alternator needed to be replaced. I consented to the repair, and, over the next 2 days, they did the work. We'd asked them to also check the tires because the low-pressure light had also come on. On September 7, they called to say that there was a leaky valve on one of the tires: I asked them to change that also and picked up the car that evening. The total bill was just under $2000. When they called to tell me of the leaky tire valve, they also said that there were a couple of additional repairs they would suggest: there was a grease leak in the front axle on the left (driver's side), and the radiator had a seepage. When I asked them for an estimate, they said the radiator replacement would be about $1000 and the axle grease leak repair would be about $700. I told them I'd have to think about those repairs, as the car is almost 17 years old. When I went to pay the bill and pick up the car, they mentioned a third repair: the brake rotors needed to be shaved. That, according to them, would cost a bit more than $1100. Finally, they said that the tires were at the point where they would recommend changing them. I estimated that cost to be around $1200. In sum, VTA was suggesting repairs or replacements that would cost me about $4000, and the trade-in value of my car is only a few hundred dollars more than that. The employee who gave me the receipt and my car key told me that he'd make the repairs, if this were his car, even though the car is almost 17 years old, because it's a good car. I told him I'd have to think a lot about this. A few days later, a very good friend who's rebuilt a few cars of his own and has added features to his wife's car looked at the rotors and under the car. He said the rotors were in good shape and said, "You don't have a grease leak or any kind of 'seepage' from the radiator. If you had a leak of any kind, you'd see moisture under the car - and you do not see that. Get a second opinion." Based on the recommendation of another very good friend and the outstanding reviews I saw online, I scheduled a second opinion appointment with a second repair shop. They inspected the car this morning - September 18 - and called early this afternoon to tell me that the car looks to be in very good shape. The only thing they recommended was an oil change because the mileage was approaching the 5000-mile mark; I had them do the oil change. The bill for everything was $73.39. This was so much better than a potential $4000 bill. Please learn from our experience and be warned of vehicle repair shops out there who "recommend" repairs which your vehicle does not need. Both my husband and I have taken our vehicles to this repair shop for years and believed we could trust them with this repair. We have learned our lesson. In the future, we will go elsewhere for repairs.

The gentleman answering the phone was kind and quick to help with scheduling an appointment. Unfortunately, the service was poor, and I would not recommend. I came in for a tire patch. The nail was located in the middle of the tire and very fixable. After an hour of waiting, the tech decided that the tire is not fixable and quotes me $400 to purchase a new tire. No explanation as to why the tire wasn’t patchable. I promptly left, and was able to get my tired fixed at another tire shop for $30.

Looked up a place to see about getting a state inspection done. Was the first person here arrived at 5:30 AM waited until the they opened @ 0730 . Apparently there is another line you have to park in but there is nothing to identity that. I told the manager he said sorry there is nothing I can do for you. Awesome customer service. Thank you.

We contacted customer service (as they indicated in the review response) - but it has been over 2 weeks and still, we have had no response from customer service (we left two email addresses and one phone number). So beware, customer service might reach out to say please contact us, but that seems to be more just for appearances. Even if they do not agree with our issues/concerns/views, any good service business knows the importance of responding to your customers.

Bottom Line Up Front: We had the unfortunate experience of trying to use this location to change our car tires, and they have proven to be either grossly incompetent, or just indifferent to customers needs and expectations. Last week we decided on which tires would work best for our needs and spoke with someone who verified we could order those and have them installed after they arrived. We placed a deposit and were told to drop off the car Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning. We were informed on Wednesday afternoon (after we had dropped the car off Tuesday evening) that the car was ready, and left as soon as we were able to leave work to retrieve it. Upon seeing the vehicle, we noted that the tires were all-season Good-years (not the ones we ordered, which were a completely different brand and were supposed to be all-weather).Upon noting this to the Front Desk, their immediate reaction was confusion but ultimately verified we were correct - the tires we ordered and paid for were not the ones installed. They said they could have it fixed 'within the hour.' As they searched for an explanation as to why this event had occurred, they found (after almost a half hour of waiting at the store) that they had indeed ordered the tires, but they had been shipped and received to a completely different store, so no longer was getting the error corrected same day and option.Considering the fact that we placed the order for these tires through their company, and planned our work as well as other activities accordingly, it does lend more credibility to the idea that incompetence is at the core of this issue. They did offer to have the car ready by the next day, and offered to give us a Lyft anywhere within 5 miles. The only issue is that we do not live within 5 miles of this store, so the offer was effectively worthless. We selected VA Tire and Auto particularly as the information we found and reviews seemed reasonable, but our experience so far has been lackluster at best - all they needed to do was make a simple phone call before unilaterally installing tires that were both not needed and not asked for.I will likely update this once we have finally received our car back (hopefully with the correct tires and no damage done to the vehicle), but I will not be holding my breath for them to ameliorate the almost two hours of driving and loss of work that was necessary for us to carpool to get the car. If you like good, proactive, and efficient service -- I would recommend elsewhere.

Went in for a tire repair, and I received very quick and personable service. Very friendly staff from the front desk to the mechanics. Definitely would recommend these guys.

Came here on 3 separate occasions to get a simple vehicle inspection during normal operating hours , each time told the inspector was sick / not here even though I had asked for a day he would be good which was a monday , when I showed up at 1 pm I walked out with zero inspection becuase he was sick again , either fire the guy or tell me the truth I shouldn't need to go to the same place 3 different times to get something as a simple state inspection especially when your open and it says “walk in inspections”

I came in at 8:30am with an appointment to get my oil change done and spent time in the waiting area, waiting for it to be done. 11am comes around and the front desk tells me that they are just checking my oil now. Ten minutes later they say they are unable to change my oil as the filter cap has been damaged from being tightened too much (I’ve done my oil change eight times at this same location before this) by another technician and they don’t wanna be liable and offered for me to pay $150 for a new one for them to proceed. I decline and wait twenty five extra minutes for them to return my car to me.I buy the parts myself at Advanced Auto Parts for $50 and take it to another respected mechanic where they said they had unnecessarily tightened it too much and made it a hassle to remove. Be cautious coming to this location because sometimes they have good mechanics and other times they have mechanics that will just create more problems to you car.

I don't know much about cars, but the team at Virginia Tire & Auto made me feel comfortable and explained everything that needed to be done. They were professional, courteous and very good at their jobs.

Over the past few years, I have been using VA Tire & Auto (including this location) for my usual vehicle maintenance and have always had a satisfactory and positive experience with their workmanship, customer service, and reasonable pricing until our most recent visit.I took my car in on Wednesday morning knowing we needed to purchase a new set of tires. The tires we selected had to delivered from another location and as such, the car had to be kept at the garage overnight. Completely normally scenario and leaving the car overnight was fine by us. However, the job was not completed until end of day Friday and we were left without our vehicle for several days. Delivery of the tires for whatever reason was delayed, which held up installation. However, what concerned us the most was that we had to call every time to receive a status update on our vehicle. Never once did VA Tire & Auto staff initiate communication to let us know what was going on with the delay or how long we should expect. In addition, at one point I was put on hold for roughly 20 minutes and did not receive attention until I had hung up and called back the location. While I recognize the tire delivery delay is likely outside of their control, the customer service support I received was less than satisfactory compared to my usual experiences with VA Tire & Auto. I am unsure if it has to deal with staff shortage issues, but it was highly uncharacteristic.Update: I tried contacting the customer service email VA Tire & Auto included in their reply below multiple times and received no response… lowering my rating further to reflect this…

Get a second opinion on repairs!! I was quoted thousands of dollars for repairs, plus a "diagnostic" to determine the additional cost for more repairs. Went someplace else to get a second opinion, and they fixed it for $1500 less than VA Tire& Auto. They should spend more time fixing cars for the right price and less time pushing their credit card to bring in customers. I'm never coming back.

Wish I had read the recent reviews. I went to Virginia Tire because I had an amazing experience with an urgent issue with my car. They took great care to get me in and out quickly since I was 7 months pregnant at the time. But, I just had the worst experience with auto repair. It took them 2 days to replace 2 tires and complete a vehicle inspection. It’s so absurd I don’t even know how to get mad. They definitely need a change in management and until that happens I wouldn’t recommend taking your vehicle here for any service.

They need to jump into the 21st century. The company has a website that lets you make an appointment for service but it has no reflection in reality. Either the website is shit or this franchise doesn't keep their schedule updated on the company server. Also were were in line for safety inspection. We were told we were next after the lunch break. When the guy came back he took in 2 other cars. Since we had already waited an hour and there was no order to the service we left. Something has happened to this place. They used to be great but not anymore.
