I ordered this trunk a few months ago to use as a shadow box for my husbands shadow box for his retirement from the Air Force. The history behind the box was only part of the allure. The complete finished product has made it a perfect keepsake, and more than we could have hoped for!

This company is the best!! I bought a trunk that has special hinges so it can go right up against a wall, and can still be opened with ease. It is fantastically beautiful, and useful, as I put a metal filing rail in it, and it now houses my important papers and manila files. I got the impression that the owner of TPL is a no nonsense sort of guy, and probably doesn't have much patience for lookie-loos or kicking tires- but I had no problem at all with him or my order. Since this had to go cross country- I was a little concerned how it would arrive, but I needn't have worried. It was well packed with bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard, and I was impressed with the care they obviously took. It is mind-boggling that all of these trunks are at least 100 years old. They have been so well preserved, and so meticulously restored, you know you are owning a piece of history. I have attached a couple photos, but they really don't do it justice!! Thanks, Pirate's Lair!

I was all excited to see my antique steamer trunk on their website. I called to ask a general question and the man (owner) was unbelievably rude. If one if my employees ever treated a customer the way he treated me, I would fire them on the spot! How he can keep his business afloat, muchless in the black, is beyond me. PLEASE DO NOT ENCOURAGE HIS BEHAVIOR BY SPENDING YOUR MONEY AT HIS STORE!

The RUDEST costumer service ever. Shop elsewhere.

Okay, so as promised I am updating my review. I ordered an M1917 Navy Cutlass. Came in pristine condition, and obviously no body devalued the antique by sharpening. Amazing condition and "AS IS" also. This item will appreciate.

Read the other reviews and believe them! This guy is either in need of medical help or just a total AO and sounds like he has perfected it. I have a number of officers silver and enlisted men's mess pieces from CV-10 Yorktown from 1943-44. How can I prove this? I have a picture of my father's friend holding them on deck in Japan. Anyway, this guy answers the phone and immediately makes it clear I am bothering him. I could not get a word in. First he sounded interested, then told me try eBay, then he would ask a question then cut me off, then say send a picture, then say he only buys from Navy surplus. This went on for less than a minute. I told him I would send pictures, then he said don't make the file too big, then he wasn't interested, then ask a question. I knew before I called nobody would pay the prices he is asking on his site and tried to tell him I would accept $5 a piece on pieces he was asking $55. He asked me how much I had. Remember I said I would send picture? I made the mistake of saying I think and he went off. I then wanted to point out to him I had these "rare" dessert forks at which he just said goodbye and hung up. I did notice he liked to quote Bible verse on his site. Maybe following it might help. Stay away from this guy. I have no idea what his issue is. When he told me to sell the stuff on eBay I should have shut up.

I spent ages trying to identify the "Coat of Arms" on some silverware that granddad found during WW2 in Egypt. After many google searches, came across items with similar crests on The Pirate's Lair and Mike has been very knowledgable in identifying them and advising why they possibly came to be hidden underwater on the jetty pier.

I'm not sure what when on with the other reviewers, none of them seemed to have actually purchased anything. My wife and I decided to purchase a large chest from Pirates Lair. We are very pleased with the item we received. The quality of restoration was far better than what we came across on eBay. Our chest was well packaged and shipped promptly. My only minorcomplaint would be we had to call to order because you can't order from the site.

The worst. I am not sure why certain people decide to run a business when they so obviously hate people (or potential customers). The owner has a terrible attitude. This guy will ruin your day. Please avoid.

The Pirate's Lair has the most amazing chests! The pictures are nice, but they really don't do the antique chests justice. I have bought 2 chest so far, one for myself and one for a family wedding present. They are the real deal!!

I ran into The Pirates Lair's website while researching a rare and valuable USMC piece that I came into possession of, which I have no use for. Finding no link on their page to arrange a consignment, I searched a bit, and found these 100% negative reviews. If the last post wasn't so recent, I could be inclined to reckon they might have changed their ways, but as it is, I think I'll consign to ebay this time around...
