They have a Huge Selection of BLUE BELL ICE CREAM from Texas! It’s absolutely the Best! High quality meats at a reasonable price, too.
I come all the way from Harrisonburg for the high quality meat and Blue Bell Ice Cream… It’s worth crossing a mountain to shop at Greene Great Valu !

Fairly good small business, things are definitely not the cheapest here but supporting local businesses is nice!

We visited today 10/20/24 just passing through town and needed snacks and a bathroom. The store was fine but the cashier.... The cashier smelled absolutely horrible. My wife had to step outside and abandoned me to suffer in the stink until my transaction was complete. I've not smelled such stink coming off of a person for at least 30 years. There are no words in the English language strong enough to accurately describe the stench. The foul odor seeped into my clothes and lingered in my nose for the rest of the trip home. Absolutely disgusting. Store management needs to make sure their staff come to work with good hygiene or send them home. I've talked to homeless people who smelled better. My God.

They do not take American Express. It is 2024 not the 1950s. This is an easy fix.
Review as a non-local resident for other non-local and local residents:
It is not the best grocery store, but it is the only one here, so this is your option for fresh produce.
They don't have certain healthier brands and options. I assume they think it isn't beneficial to carry them because they don't think they will be bought.
I would like to see them try, though. Many would prefer healthier choices in 2024.
It could also use significant renovation. It reminds me of the average dollar tree when I walk in with a haphazard layout and bright fluorescent lights.
I'm sure the staff is nice enough, which is why im giving it three stars, but that doesn't make up for the layout, construction, and goods at the store.

Greene Great Value in Stanardsville, VA, offers a convenient shopping option if you're in the area and need something specific without making the trek to Walmart. However, my experiences with their produce section have been less than satisfactory. Unfortunately, the produce is often subpar, with many items appearing rotten or past their expiration date. This is a significant drawback, especially when you're looking for fresh ingredients.
On the positive side, the store is conveniently located for those who live nearby or are passing through Stanardsville. It can be a lifesaver when you need to grab something quickly without going out of your way. The store carries a decent selection of general grocery items and household necessities, making it a practical stop for quick errands.
While I appreciate the convenience of Greene Great Value, the quality of their produce needs serious improvement. If they can address this issue, it would greatly enhance the overall shopping experience. For now, I only visit when I'm close by and need something specific, preferring to do my major grocery shopping elsewhere. If you’re in a similar situation, this store might still be a viable option for quick, last-minute needs.

Nice local store and convenient for Stanardsville residents. Could use some upgrades. Mostly clean and priced what you would expect for a local store. They do have handicap parking and everything inside the store is set up for wheelchair. I go there from time to time and always friendly atmosphere. Recommend giving it a try and stay away from the main stream of Ruckersville.

This place is your small town grocer. They don't carry everything out there but have decent meats, produce & wonderful employees. I use their curbside option and very seldom am I disappointed. If visiting locally, stop by for your grocery needs. Thanks Great Valu employees!

Came for heavy whipping cream and was blown away by the price. $8.05 for a 32oz essential brand. All other places are less then $5. Absolutely insane to me

The fruit was ripe and delicious. The prepared food at the deli is a great deal and tasted fresh. Great prices.
