Got a free tour of this place when I accidentally got here too late!! The ladies working there were very polite, I was at the castle the night before seeing if it is haunted, and we saw the basement light turn on (around 2am) I do have video footage too with my brother. I asked the ladies who gave the tour if that was normal and they said nope. Fun trip overall!

Amazing History!
Castle is the oldest brick house in America, built in the seventeenth century, and 75% of the building is original. The furniture is from the 18th century.
It was named after the rebellious Nathaniel Bacon, though he was not the owner of the property.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, patient, and fun. I had a great time walking through 300 years old brick and Jacobean home. Very cute souvenirs are sold here, too.

We got to tour the castle here yesterday and it was so beautiful. We arrived for homeschool day and the children got to learn about natural dyes and peanuts grown on the farms around Bacons Castle! They got to plant a peanut in a cup to take home and dye their own cloths with natural dyes like they did 100s of years ago. They also were doing a garden tour and house tour! All of the guides were very knowledgeable and bright! Very educational and fun! Truly a unique and fun experience, I highly recommend this place!

Don't be fooled by the name, there is no bacon here. I was quite upset at this revelation. However, this is a great site of local historical significance. Aside from the history, it's also an interesting lesson in architecture.

Castle is the oldest brick house in America. It was built in the seventeenth century and 75% of this building is original. Amazing!!!. Very quiet and peaceful place. Furniture inside from 18th century but it preserves originality in the interior of house ?. Just fabulous house. Due to planty of windows the space is very bright. You must look it with yourself.

It seems every old mansion in Virginia is a museum. This house was originally known as Allen's Brick House. Only after a reporter erroneously referred to it as Bacons Castle was it called Bacons Castle. It is a delightful old home to visit. It is yet another example of how the wealthy lived in the 1600s. Tours are provided, and the guides are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Giving this location 4 stars because of the journey to get there as we were not actually able to go inside, yes sadness! But, taking the Jamestown-Stockton ferry over the Jame's River was beautiful, the 20 minute drive or so to Bacons Castle was a beautiful drive thru Surry County. We pulled up the gravel drive to the castle and realized ot was closed. Last tour started at 4pm. But it was so worth the drive.

Great road trip. Excellent tour. Spent a lot of time roaming the grounds and looking at brick. They have a few picnic tables if you want to bring a lunch.
