Great Neck Recreation Center is a well-maintained and clean facility that offers a variety of fitness and recreational options. Despite its age, the building is kept in good condition, and the equipment is functional and in good shape. The center features a pool suitable for lap swimming, though some may find the swim lanes less crowded during weekdays. The gym area is popular and usually busy, but visitors can generally find the equipment they need, though it's advised to keep personal items secure. The center provides drop-in fitness classes and drop-in childcare for toddlers ages 3 and up, which many find helpful and enjoyable. The staff is friendly, helpful, and creates a welcoming atmosphere, contributing to a positive experience. The facility is considered a great value, especially compared to other gyms in the area, with an affordable yearly membership fee. However, some issues like outdated showers and lockers, as well as occasional A/C problems, have been noted. Overall, Great Neck Recreation Center is appreciated for its friendly community vibe, clean environment, and good equipment, making it a favorite spot for many local residents.
Great gym—clean, good value, and an awesome morning crowd. But the A/C is often out, and several times in the last 2 months I’ve driven over 15 minutes at 6:15 AM only to find a sign saying they’re closed due to heat. Despite being signed up for alerts, I’ve never received one. That’s my biggest frustration.

This has what I need, but is definitely showing it's age. I have been using it for swimming laps lately. I haven't found any time during the week that swim lanes are pretty full. The showers aren't very good, but are usable. Several other rec centers have been renovated. I hope this one gets updated soon.
