Believe what people are saying to the reviews. The customer service is awful the agents are old as dirt don’t know nothing put you on hold no one calls you back. They keep your personal info then act like you did something wrong. Like it’s not that hard.

I have been a member of PenFed since late 2002. Never a single issue caused by anything other than my poor management of my money and credit. Once I got my finances headed in the right direction, I was able to open a checking account and get a Visa Gold. When PFCU's competition would not give me a debit card on a savings account, PFCU did. When their competition wouldn't give a checking account, PFCU did. When I earned it, I was preapproved for a Visa Gold. PenFed is the best bank I have ever done business with.

Do not ask loans here. tell will ask you documents that you probably already sent more than 2X. The people working there are incompetent, they don't even go through your whole application. They are a scam company.

False advertising. They have 1% loan origination fees. Also have to pay for discount points to get that rate. I checked the website again and I couldn’t find anywhere about 1% loan origination fee. Effectively, you end up paying the same as a local mortgage agent, if not more upfront. Got my score pulled for no reason. Wasn’t told on the website if it’s a hard or soft pull. I’ve worked with credit unions all my life but would not recommend this credit Union.

Since day one when you get an auto loan from them they automatically set you up with a savings account which is how you pay for your auto loan. They always transferred the money over to your loan payment then without any warning the rules change and they suddenly stop and then they pick up your vehicle for non payment when the money is sitting there in your savings account but don't worry because now all of a sudden they will transfer your money over to your payment which doesn't make any sense but that's the way that they do business so just go with it until you can do better which is a lesson learned

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! They continue to decline my card that has a substantial balance on it and they offer no solution after THEIR working hours for correcting the situation. I will be transferring my money out and closing my account.

I used Pen Fed to refinance my home mortgage. It was done online and I received great service as well as a great rate. I did not realize there was a local office in town when I decided to refinance. A friend recommended Pen Fed to me and could not be any more pleased.

Local branch review: came in at 4:50 PM to sign auto loan docs and pickup check. They didn't hesitate to help or say anything about closing at 5:00. Stayed late to get us taken care of. Delores and her manager were friendly, professional, and expedient. Many of these reviews are older or about the website. This is my third auto loan with PenFed - no issues and the best rates. I also received excellent phone support / service. Website lacks some functionality and doesn't make their phone number easily accessible.

Holding my insurance check without reason or explanation, refused to pay interest. All repairs done. Inspection done. $0 balance with HELOC. Wish I wouldn't have to deal with them

I've been sitting in the drive thru for over 20 minutes for the second time trying to cash a check written on a line of credit. This is not my bank and you couldn't pay me to use this horrible place.

Although I have not been pleased with PenFed as a corporation, I would personally like to compliment one of the best phone customer service reps I have ever spoken to in the business community. His name is Anthony, he is domiciled in Omaha Nebraska and is one of the most personable, fun, friendly, and informative person ever!

My husband is out of state active duty and since he’s the only one on the account they refused to let me pay the loan that we pay on time every month and now my husband is being penalized with late fees which is going to affect his credit. Absolutely ridiculous; would have thought they’d be more understanding especially in a Military State.

Have a couple of mortgages from PenFed. First was awesome. Second was worst banking experience of my entire life. Lies and failures to honor commitments resulting in multiple delays to my closing in the middle of me moving many states away. A year later and I see a fraud charge on one of my accounts. Have been calling all morning. Either I get dumped from their ridiculous call system after 20 minutes of menus and waiting or, when I talk to an actual human being, they transfer me and I get dumped. Also tried their chat system which has promised me 3 calls now that didn't occur. Hate hate double hate. Do yourself a favor and don't use PenFed.

Absolutely the worst! Imagine spending 15 hours on the phone and 2 hours, driving only to have zero resolution on your loan. A customer was arguing with the loan rep over a previous reps personal details. A major argument broke out in the parking lot with two individuals who wanted the same spot. Completely disgraceful technical and customer service. 5 thumbs down!!!
