A great yoga class is the perfect mix of stimulation and relaxation! Susan aptly cultivates both. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, but there is absolutely no negativity or pressure to go harder than one feels is appropriate for their body. Susan's knowledge of anatomy allows her to give subtle but powerful cues and adjustments that make the poses all the more effective. If you're used to video classes, you will quickly realize there is no substitute for a live teacher who knows her stuff!

Inside Out Yoga hosts awesome yoga retreats that include mental and physical wellness sessions along with the opportunity for fellowship with others. I have attended several retreats and there is a nice balance of yoga classes, meditation, personal skills workshops and free time offered!

After decades of practicing yoga in all parts of the country, I was thrilled to find such a gifted teacher in the small town of White Stone. Susan’s style of yoga is the perfect blend of athleticism and mindfulness. She makes everyone feel welcome, no matter their level of practice. She has cultivated a community of fun-loving yogis from around the region. Now I’m totally hooked on her travel retreats in fun locations too!

Susan offers a variety of classes that suit yogis of all levels and stages in life. She is able to mix fun with structure and provide a safe place for spiritual and physical growth of the practice of yoga. Her international and in-state yoga retreats take it to another level with a different themed workshop for each retreat.~ Milly

InsideOut Yoga is a gift to those who are fortunate to live in or visit the norther neck and middle peninsula of VA. Susan teaches to all levels of experience ensuring everyone can participate in one of her classes. While flow is her speciality, her classes for strength and flexibility, and myofascial release are inclusive for all abilities. And not to be missed are the amazing retreats she co-leads with MJ Anderson. OBX, Peru, Shenandoah, VA, these retreats are thoughtfully developed and led in a safe, nurturing manner that brings the participants together to play, learn and grow. Once you attend one, well you will want to come back for more. Morocco and Costa Rica on the horizon baby!

I'm a bit reluctant about writing a review... simply because I want to keep this place a secret, all for myself. It's a hidden gem of Northern Neck. If you are coming out to spend a weekend or a whole summer, you should definitely check it out !

InsideOut Yoga is the best. Susan has a way of making even beginners feel empowered to try new moves and challenge themselves. She is not afraid to help gently move you into a correct pose. And folks who go to her studio are raving fans. During the pandemic, I have enjoyed her YouTube classes which she generously creates for those who cannot be there in person. And, the annual Kekoka Yoga Retreat which she leads (usually held in May) is a blast and full of opportunities to connect with others who practice yoga (at all levels) and learn new moves....all in a lovely country setting at a YMCA camp (trust me, it is very nice and will take you back to when you were 10 years old and off to your first sleepover camp....fun!).

Susan's classes at IOY are challenging, fun and safe for all levels of experience. She crafts together wonderful sequences and encourages each student to make the practice their own. I highly recommend taking any/all of her classes. No matter if you are a beginner or experienced yogi, there is something at IOY for you.

Susan is an excellent and motivating teacher. She is serious about yoga and the poses but brings a sense of joyful fun to class. I like that the practice changes from week to week, keeping it fresh and interesting, yet challenging.

I’ve known Susan as a friend and teacher for many years. I was with her during her yoga teacher training journey and was often one of the people she first practiced on. She has a gift for teaching and explaining and ALWAYS bringing something new to her classes. Her passion for yoga and how the human body moves is evident in all her classes. And Susan seems just as happy to teach newbies as she is to teach experiences yogis. I highly recommend experiencing InsideOut Yoga if you haven’t already!! I would also encourage you to check out all the cool stuff (like yummy recipes) on her website!

I first came to Inside Out Yoga to practice 108 Sun Salutations on the evening of the Winter Solstice in 2008. It was the first time I had ever done that and the event was special and meaningful because of all the thoughtful touches Susan adds to everything she does. I had been attending a different yoga class with a different instructor and was looking for a more strenuous option. Susan’s Power Flow class that I eventually attended was exactly what I needed. She is fun but focused, challenging but careful, and always mindful. We live in a small community and to have a talented and creative yoga instructor such as Susan is a gift. She continues to impress me with all the ways she has evolved as a teacher and how her business is always growing and changing. She also generously volunteers her time and talents improve the community through fundraisers and benefits. Inside Out Yoga is a first class operation and Susan is a gem.

Best yoga instructor I’ve ever had and I’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years. Each class is unique-power flow will leave you exhausted, breath and stretch is the perfect antidote. Lol. Susan takes time with each yogi and ensures each person is hitting their potential. She is truly a master of her trade. First class is free-definitely worth a try if you’re thinking about it. I bet you won’t be disappointed.
