“Every time we visit Williamsburg, I try and stop in for the nutri-safflower our little birds can't get enough of. Although their store is small it is packed with a surplus of goodies for the wildlife and wildlife lovers.”

“A great place to visit and learn about Colonial America book binding.
Colonial Williamsburg is a wonderful place to visit that really brings American history to life. It offers visitors a unique glimpse into 18th-century America with real shops, people dressed in period costumes and buildings maintained as they would be in Colonial times. Located in Williamsburg, Virginia, this living history museum spans over 300 acres and includes restored buildings, interactive exhibits, and costumed interpreters. The site is an immersive experience where you can walk along cobblestone streets, interact with blacksmiths, shopkeepers, and even participate in colonial-era activities. I would recommend starting your experience at the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center but you can go directly to the city where there is plenty of parking in parking garages along the outer streets. You can see lots of different working places in the city like bookbinders, silversmiths and gunsmiths. The Bookbinders shop is on the north side of the main street (W Duke of Gloucester Street) just to the east of Nassau street. It sits right on the street. It is located in front of, and up the hill from, the Leather Breeches and shoe maker and to thewest of the Dubois Grocer. It was a single large open room with a foyer for guests and visitors that fits about 5-8 people comfortably. There is a press to the right as you enter and counters separating the workspace from guests. They focus on binding and not printing in this location. The man behind the counter was friendly and knowledgeable about his art. Tools line one wall and are designed to trim pages and secure them into booklets, pamphlets and books. Overall, it was very interesting to see and hear what a colonial bookbindery accomplished on a daily basis.”

“Unfortunately, Michaels is really the only source for crafters in Williamsburg. This doesn't mean it's not a good store but it would be great to have both Michael's and Hobby Lobby to choose from. Also, recently Michael's has eliminated all but one cashier-run register & has gone to self-checkout which is not something I like. If they want to make me check myself out, then I need a discount!”
