Jamestown Settlement is a living-history museum located near the original Jamestown colony, offering an immersive experience of 17th-century Virginia history and culture. Visitors can explore the story of America’s beginnings through engaging films, gallery exhibits, and outdoor living history. The museum features permanent and special exhibitions highlighting the cultures of Virginia Indians, English colonists, and the first documented West Central Africans who arrived in Virginia in 1619. Guests can tour the impressive replicas of the three ships that brought the English settlers to Jamestown and visit a recreated Paspahegh town and James Fort. Many reviews praise the knowledgeable staff and the interactive nature of the exhibits, making it enjoyable for all ages. The settlement is completely handicap accessible, although some areas may pose challenges for wheelchair users. Visitors often recommend dedicating a full day to fully experience the exhibits, with the outdoor attractions closing at 3 PM. The musket firing demonstrations and interactions with reenactors add to the educational and engaging atmosphere. Overall, Jamestown Settlement provides a rich and enjoyable experience for families and history enthusiasts alike, with a small entry fee that is considered worthwhile for the amount of history presented.
Very well done museum with beautiful exhibits - particularly enjoyed the exhibit on the fine china and its global connections. Lots to see and do here - from outdoor living history to multiple films inside. Could easily spend 2+ hours and much preferred this museum to the American Revolution museum at Yorktown.
